^@MWZ: I like it. And I'll do it on this round since my melee score is about 90. I think I'll limit my Courier even further by only using a golf club!

Nephi's driver and Fore! Yeah, I'm doing it! I'll see if I can get a screen capture or two.

The best part of the Second Battle of Hoover Dam?

You no longer have to save ammo.

Why yes I would like to use my Tesla Cannon, Fat Man, and Minigun without a care in the world.

Those NCR bums get unloaded on in all of my playthroughs for the most part except when i restrict myself to increase the challenge.

I never let Lanius surrender. That animal has it coming, I always have him shot. Oliver is a different story, after that battle, the people of the NCR will most likely crucify Oliver and Kimball themselves, instead of having the Legion do it.

But killing Lanius is removing one of the most interesting characters in the FO myth from reality!

He can be interesting, that doesn't mean that I'll let his crimes slide. He's an animal, plain and simple, with a history of murder in his closet. This are my personal beliefs anyway. Another example is Letho in the Witcher 2, he's an interesting character, I still have him killed, no way I'm letting that bastard walk away.

Man, I'm getting ready to clobber me some Legion skulls with a nine iron and Nephi's Driver soon!  I think I'll even be tee-ing up ol' Lanius' head on this run, who I usually let live only because his is one of the best speech checks in gaming.

But, to whack him with a driver!? Just don't think I can pass that up.

Is there a challenge for defeating the Legion with golf clubs?  Should be.

"So you're the big, scary 'Monster of the East,' huh?"  Pffft...."FORE!"

T__T Legion haters

I don't necessarily hate them, I just think their ideas are wrong and backwards. Even then I understand what they're trying to do, but it seems too extreme. Maybe if Obsidian had been allowed to finished what they had planned for the Legion people would have a different outlook on them. We were supposed to journey to Legion territory. Too bad it wasn't just cut content that was not finished otherwise someone could have restored it.

Best we can hope for is for someone to decide to make a mod about it. Too bad New Vegas modding isn't all that hot anymore, most quest mods are very crappy, it'd be good if someone came up with something better. The few good ones that a certain modder was making will never see the light of day, since he got tired of modding and quit.

I wish we had seen Flagstaff, Sawyer explained it decently in that quote i posted a while ago what it was like to live in Legion territory.

I have a feeling we haven't seen the last of the Legion regardless though.

Nah, not a hater. Wouldn't be a good game without a worthy adversary.

Question though: If you're playing a legionnaire, do the NCR hit squads have the high DT that Legion hit squads have?

Never had NCR hit squads on me, I bet they're just as dangerous though. They do give you a chance to make good with the NCR unlike the Legion. I don't like either faction very much but I prefer NCR over the Legion. I always side with House, if they had made a "Courier takes over" ending, I would've considered it too.

Yet, annoyingly, I still caught myself looting the dead bodies. Ugh.

It's sad how much Obsidian hated the Legion. There isn't one Legion-sympathetic companion (aside from Raul who is indifferent about everything) and the player has to side against them (white legs), regardless of choice, in Honest Hearts.

They were nicer to the Legion than Bethesda was to the Enclave :P

They were going to have more for them.

Show what life under the Legion was like, also Ulysses was meant as a Pro-Legion character before he got cut.

Blame deadlines having to be met I guess.

Shame there isn't a Restoration project lying around.

Yeah, I'm in the 'Obsidian could have done way more with the Legion' camp. It should have been much more gray like Skyrim where Imperial or Stormcloak is a more difficult decision. I always favored Stormcloaks (for a multitude of reasons), but nonetheless I felt like a $#!+ wiping out Imperials who I truly had no personal beef with (well...other than that whole Thalmor thing)...but sacking Whiterun as a Stormcloak, or 'winning' the civil war, did not feel like a victory...at all. There seemed to be far more balance in the outlook of the factions.

Having said that, there was nothing that gave me such pause in NV. In fact, I found myself looking for opportunities to thin the herd of the Legion and sabotage their efforts in any way possible. They were far too easy to write off as totalitarian slaver fanatics. Shouldn't have been that way.

Caesar being a humongous hypocrite with the charisma of a chair didn't help. Neither was the Legion being wholly misogynistic and genocidal.

Heck, Marcus makes a point that the Legion would fall to infighting and chaos as soon as Caesar dies, removing the "Lawful Evil" charm to it.

As a matter of fact, there are plenty lying around. FOOK restores a lot of cut content, that is if you don't mind the other hundreds of things it adds. There's Freeside Open, the Strip Open and another bunch of cut content mods lying around for things that were cut such as the House-Brotherhood alliance, the Legion Brotherhood alliance (although, that one didn't make much sense, so I can see why obsidian cut it), and a bunch of other stuff that adds a lot of cut content.

Nonetheless, the legion part they were planning, I think it is impossible to restore because it was never made at all or if there's anything about it, then it was very little.

Well if you look into the reactionary Survivalist Society Mantra then it becomes a bit about ideological reasoning then anything else to support them, but then that's about Metaknowledge rather then any PC perspective unless if you're like Arcade and studying pre war ideological notions of what makes an effective state.

Point being there isn't anything inherently wrong with any of the Legion principles, its just they were hidden behind a veneer of callous brutality and perspective that is in most cases entirely alien to the Player.

what is there to discuss.

if bioware made its games more like beth/obsidian in fallout 3 and new vegas (adopting the body gen slider from skyrim) then bioware would be back on top- well at least threatening to be on top and actual competition for bethseda.

i say this because new vegas points out the best way for bioware to do an epilogue dealing with branching story results.

also the fun of being able to (if you want, not necessarily having to- murderous rampage runs lose their charm after the first ten minuites), blow away that shop keeper who was a jerk.

i think the other "problem" with the presentation of the legion is that you didn't get much background on them unless you did extra reading, fallout has a huge history and wealth of backstory and the legion we see is fromt eh point of view of being on the receiving end of the invading army.

not a choice society, but not without its redeeming qualities as well and the note that the most noteable thing people disliked about the legion being their treatment of women and use of slaves, is a completely different treatment of women who are not slaves of the legion, but akin to citizines of the legion.

in that regard they are somewhat more like the quanari where everyone has a role (although its more changeable), just that there is no reason to go to legion territory and thus no depiction of anything abotuu them but their military invading arm.

that's good and bad because i think the flavor of the game had to paint the legion the way they did as the invading force and to somewhat "humanize" them and give more backstory might detract from the game. perhaps if they released a non-story arc (no courier) legion based dlc after LR, then it might have been a good addition to the game.

but fallout is also not a "closed" universe- in a sense that the legion is still a continuing force and faction and very well might appear in future games.

i think they presented them the way they had to. whether that was a conscious choice or just lazy programming and a desire to paint the legion as enemies i don't know. but in retrospect it makes sense that the dwellers of the Mojave would only see the war-arm of the legion from the point of view of being on the receiving end.
