Hope they actually make energy weapons useful this time around. I remember the earlier days of FO:NV where plasma guns were pathetically weak :(

They still are hard to handle.

Still don't think I'd throw back 200 year old flat ass cola, or just as old hard candy and gum. The effect of 2 centuries...I mean I don't care how well packaged it was...200 YEARS?!

The Nuka-Cola would taste more or less the same as any other flat Nuka-Cola that hasn't sat for 2 centuries, but the flavor wouldn't be as strong. The candy would be in a similar boat. It might lose a bit of its flavor and be more bland tasting, but it wouldn't be unhealthy (except for the radiation keeping the food sterile, anyhow). When the food is mostly sugar and corn syrup, the passage of time has little to no effect on it, save for the flavor becoming weaker. Hard candies like mints or candy canes might become "stale" and brittle due to the sugars absorbing moisture and hardening inside the candy over time, but that's about it.

Of course, there's no way to know this for a fact (I can't think of anyone who's kept a bottle of Coca-Cola around from the days of the company's founding), but based on what we DO know now, certain foods like candy or soft drinks can last practically forever under the right conditions and still be safe to eat.

Elijah's Advanced LAER is one of the best "normal" (meaning not a missile launcher, Fat Man, or other obviously OP 1-hit kill weapon) weapons in the game, and you get it through the best DLC IMO.

The laser rifle with its upgrades is one of the best weapons in new vegas.

And it's a bit mind-bending to think of the volume of preservatives required to make Salisbury Steak and Deviled Eggs even exist, much less edible, after 200 years.

I keep thinking of the mind-blowing amounts of alcohol and party drugs you can find laying around. If there's so much left over now, imagine how much was around before.

Pre-apocalyptic America must have been drunk and high as hell to deal with the stress of the end of the world.

Or dealing with the Chinese.

Heck, melee in general is one of the best things in Vegas. Melee in FO3 was generally subpar at best, but in FNV an 'unarmed' build (which is to say, a punching build) can be one of the most OP things around once you get in range.

Embarassing as it is to admit, though, I only learned/realized how the VATS special blow/special melee system worked in my last game of FNV, and I don't have the patience to go through it all again.

Yeah, I've seen unarmed builds...only on YouTube...it's not my bag, at all... that wipe out deathclaws. Neat to watch...just not my thing.

Melee is more my style, one-handed (like with bowie knives, hatchets or combat knives), but even then, its really more of an in-game hobby. It's just fun enough to play around with. I could never forego guns. Half my mods are gun mods. I couldn't just let them all sit there unused in my load order! ;)

I loved my space marine build with power armour, laser rifle and power fist.

I'm more a fan of the Holorifle myself.

It's a good midrange weapon that covers the space between my melee and Christine's Silencer Rifle, as long as you don't have the Corona perk.

Apparently the weapon is bugged though, but I don't notice.

But in a circle of friends I'm the weird one that likes the Dead Money DLC and uses the Stealth Suit mk. II, so take that how you will.

I prefers the projectiles like the anti materiel rifle.

Same here.

And the insane amount of projectile weaponry, ammunition types, and reloading make New Vegas a virtual gun monkey's playground. And as great a job as Obsidian did on guns, and as if that weren't enough!, I added on about 30 more guns and CaliberX, and Weapon Mod Expanded (WMX), then edited and re-edited about 60 of my favorite vanilla weapons.

Needless to say, I hope they do guns this well again in Fallout next game.

I greatly prefer the conventional weapons to the energy weapons in New Vegas, though the plasma rifle (and unique variants) hold a special place in my heart, since they were top-tier in Fallout 3.

edit: I detest Fallout 3 and New Vegas on PC. The games themselves are great and I love playing both of them (Fallout 3 moreso than New Vegas, however), but Christ, Bethesda and Obsidian s**t the bed with them when it comes to technical performance and stability. In both 3 and New Vegas now I'm running into what I can only guess is a bug, where my desktop cursor remains active in the background while the game is running (but the cursor remains invisible). I go to click on something or shoot at an enemy, and if the hidden background cursor is up and over another program, the game minimizes (and in the case of Fallout 3, won't re-open). This issue shouldn't be related to mods, since it happens in Fallout 3 as well as New Vegas, and I have no mods installed for 3 (nor have ever downloaded any). It's especially p***ing me off for Fallout 3 since I recently bought the GOTY edition on Steam and started playing through that after performing some voodoo black magic and .ini/compatibility editing to get the game to work on Windows 8. Google is useless, since nobody seems to know what this particular issue stems from, let alone having a fix.

Really, Bethesda's bug testing and quality assurance teams should be purged and reconstructed. Or they should actually hire people to do quality control, since it's more likely that they don't actually have a QA team with how s***ty their games are, performance and stability wise. And yes, I'm blaming Bethesda for New Vegas too, even though that was made by Obsidian. It was Bethesda's idea to make Fallout with the piece of garbage Gamebryo engine that couldn't stably run to save its own life, and they're the ones who gave Obsidian the toolkit to use. I would pay actual cash money for a Bethesda game that didn't play like a total pile of trash without having to install 25 mods and fixes first.

^I'm with you. They're both buggier than hell...I mean really buggy. My hope is that the next FO game is as stable as Skyrim. That may sound like a joke to some, but Skyrim is infinitely more stable than either FO3 or NV. I can count the number of CTDs or freezes on one hand with Skyrim...it's a twice nightly occurrence with New Vegas.

I've had more trouble with New Vegas than any other game I've ever played, In fact, I'm in the middle of re-installing and re-downloading it with a smaller mod collection. The game just became far too unstable after 800+ hours of gameplay.

Like I said above, I have such a mess with DL'd mods, personal mods, and edited mods, that I'm almost 100% certain the issue is me. So, I'm in the middle of starting from scratch...again. Good thing I have a solid back-up mod file of my personal edits.

FO3 plays pretty good for me. That's probably because I took a mod appetite suppressant, and used only the few mods I really couldn't do without. No such thing with NV.

Playing on an old file in New Vegas, I still have no idea how I ended up with a bad reputation in Freeside.

I'm still snooping for any FO4 rumors

But with the rise of VA protags, when FO4 is announced, would you want the PC to have a voice or remain silent?

I love Fallout, but sometimes the silence was just awkward.

I wouldn't mind a voiced protagonist, I'm just concerned that they'll have the same voice as all the NPCs, since we know Bethesda's entire voice line-up consists of celebrities, and 1 or 2 actual voice actors for either gender (not to imply that celebrities can't do good VO work, but god, they haven't been very good for Bethesda so far).

... If it sounds like I have a bit of a hate-b**er for Bethesda, it's because I'm beginning to have one the more I learn about Bethesda.

That explains the sucess of the Legion.

Voiced protagonist means they need to scrap the static dialogue window for a more cinematic one. Just hearing our character talk with the sound coming from nowhere would be very awkward.

And then, they also have to give the PC facial expressions.

Too much effort, IMO.

Personally, I want a background we can play through, at least partially. I could never connect with the Courier the way I could with the Lone Wanderer.

Same boat here. I have a special fondness for silent protagonists, ESPECIALLY for sandbox games. If BioWare or whoever wants to tell distinctive cinematic stories, then I can see the value of a voiced protagonist, but for a pure sandbox/RPG game like the Fallout series I vastly prefer silent protagonists.

It's legitimate, Mirada Studios asked LinkedIn to remove the posting as it was in breach of their NDA.

Fallout 4 will likely be revealed at E3.
