There has been a lot of speculation about the fate of Captain Anderson, whether or not he will be the next Jenkins, if he comes with you on the Normandy, and the like, but I have come up with my own theory that he will be a near end game boss, right before the final Reaper boss fight.

I was inspired by this theory from a Gameinformer story on thir time with the demo which says
(Spolier)

"... Anderson refuses to leave. He explains that the survivors on Earth need a leader, charging Shepard with traveling the galaxy and rallying the other races. He then orders the Normandy to leave without him - but not before officially restoring Shepard's rank of commander."

-Game Informer issue 220, page 69, fifth paragraph.

Since Anderson stays on Earth, where hundred of Reapers are attacking, all with their indoctrination fields and goal of capturing humans to make a new Reaper and to use as sleeper agents, I believe Anderson will be captured in the final quarter of the game, much like how Bastila was in KOTOR, and made into a Reaper husk in the likeness of Saren and Paul Grayson from the books. When Shepard finally arrives back in earth space to destroy the Repers, I'm guessing that he will land on one of the most powerful Reapers (maybe Harby) and seek to destroy it from the inside out. It is at this point that Shepard to his or her shock an horror will see a huskified Anderson, and be forced to fight him, with Anderson trying to resistmuch as Grayson did from the novels, but fighting you nonetheless. After an excruciating boss fight of epic proportions (with Anderson adopting the various Reaper froms like cannibal, Banshee, even P\\raetorian), falls to the ground, and in his dying words tells you quickly how to kill the Reapers, or what their motivation is, which he can say as he was in the hive mind of the Reapers for presumably a long time as one of their Saren-esque servants. At this point, you put Anderson out of his misery in a paragon style of shedding a tear and a sad shot through the head, or a renegade multi shot just to be safe rage filled shots, and then go on to face the final boss.

I personally dread this scenario, as I love Anderson, but I think it will happen as Anderson seems to be the mentor character that is destined to die. He guides Shepard in ME1 and helps him/her attain the position as Spectre, and now that Shepard is essentially the Supreme Commander of the allied forces, Anderson is no longer needed. Anderson is also past his prime, and has been thrown under the bus many times by the alliance and council, as in his mission with Saren in revelation, loosing his ship and status in ME1, and being silenced by the council and alliance for his view on Reapers. He has unfairly paid for the mistakes of others, so it is only continuing the trend for him to bear the burden of being a Reaper servent in part because the alliance was so unprepared for the Reaper invasion despite the many warnings by him, Shepard, and Hackett. And then, despite being broken and defeated, he will have justice done by having his own legacy, Shepard, almost a son/daughter to him, end his suffering and do everything he could not.

So this is my theory I believe will happen (although I hope I am wrong, as I would hate having to kill Anderson). Do you think it will happen? Would you be ok killing Anderson? Would this satisfy your thirst for an epic boss fight? Is there any thing you would like to see added to my theory?

As soon as Anderson said he was staying on earth, i immediately thought, he's gonna be a husk by the time I get back

Well I sure as hell hope not, Anderson is a major badass and none of my Sheps, even my renegade **** Sheps, want to kill him. And his voice is so soothing...

I always thought Shepard was going to be Saren 2.0.

Killed a Spectre (Nihlus and Tela Vasir), has a little asari assistant (Benezia and Liara) and has a Spectre promoted after a supposed betrayal (Kaidan/Ashley). Not only that but is recruiting GETH, KROGRAN and RACHNI forces.

I'm kind of sick of the whole "The mentor dies before the trilogy is over TROLOLOLOLOLO!!!!" It's so damn overdone.

I thought this too. Everything Shepard does is similar to that of Saren. Saren was bio-engineered, as was Shepard. Shepard acted as a pawn of the Illusive Man who is revealed to be assisting the Reapers. Who's to say Shepard isn't already undergoing indoctrination?

Perhaps one of the multiple endings Bioware is talking about involves the Reapers taking over, and Shepard becoming their primary asset.

Indeed, would like to see a new twist on an old concept or somethng new altogether.

Shepard was always groomed to be a mirror-image of Saren anyway.

Depends on what you define as "mirror" though. If you go paragon, you are the good version of Saren, and the Spectre that he who could have been had he not been so hateful. If you go renrgade though, instead of being the mirror image, your essentially just a human version of Saren,
