Will the store be carrying this?

www.cooltoyreview.com/2011sdcc/koto/IMG_0984.JPG

For those that don't know, this is from kotobukiya's bishoujo line, which are made to look like anime chicks, so while not a true hard core statue, it's a start.

I've been at Comic Con the whole show, and I can provide more information. Kotobukiya now have the ME license, which is fantastic news. The Liara statue is indeed part of the Bishoujo line or "Beautiful Girl", the statues are basically all anime versions of usually non anime characters.

The Bishoujo line is meant to have a more elegant and beautiful pose or expression.  However they often use action poses in the line too.  There is no approved prototype yet, that's why the picture only. According to the Kotobukiya flyers, the statue is due out in Q2 2012 (not Q4 2011 as the picture in OP's link states) , that line is a rough 1/7th scale size, and it will retail for $59.99.

Kotobukiya also announced but did not show pictures, that they are doing a Commander Shepard (Sheploo) ARTFX statue. That series is traditionally an accurate 1/6th or occasionally 1/7th scale replica of the character without any kind of anime twist.

The line usually have a good assortment of weapons and accessories for display, often have some sort of setpiece display base, and feature some LED lighted accents where applicable. No release date or price was set for Shepard, but the ART FX line usually sells in the 90-130 dollar range, so that's a safe bet.

I'm sure Ms Domino will comment when she knows more as far as the Bioware store carrying them or not.

I'm not completely on board with the anime look, but an anime Liara statue is better than no statue at all. I'm curious to see what the rest of the ME girls will look like.

I am quite interested in this. Even though I know its not going be cheap from the sounds of it. I will reserve excitement until I actually see the model itself.

My thoughts exactly... it's like seeing a unicorn.

Interested to see how this looks though. Hopefully we're a little stricter with the quality control this time though *coughs and looks at Shepard action figure*

Indeedy!
We need a Tali one! :D

And All of the others too.
I am not usually the one for anime statues but from the image it doesn't actually look too bad and can be passed off as a statue of Liara pretty closely, in fact it's almost better as then there wont need to be an over spending of resources getting it dead on perfect to how the character looks facially as long as we can recognise who it is and it looks cool.

But if they miss the little toe on a Tali one I will rip some spines out of people! :D
Kidding but still accurate Tali. :P

I'm upset at so many people around the web saying "it's too anime". That's the POINT!

The Kotobukiya statue line basically exists to create anime-ish interpretations of popular Western characters (such as Supergirl, Wonder Woman, Storm, etc.) and create it in their style.

Telling them to change it is like asking Jim Lee to stop drawing Batman in his style and start drawing him like Frank Miller.

I'm all for a Japanese interpretation of Liara, and this statue is right in line with the rest of the Kotobukiya line of figures. Seriously, anybody familiar with their work knows this is not only expected, but this is the desired outcome of their work. If Bioware didn't want Liara to look like this, they shouldn't have asked Kotobukiya to do the statue.

But this is what they do, and personally I like it. A lot. Maybe I'm just okay with anime (there seems to be a backlash against it in the West at the moment), having been born in Japan myself, but I'm more than okay with adding Liara to the Kotobukiya line.

If I were to complain about ANYTHING, it would be that they haven't done Tali. Yet.

There's nothing wrong with the idea of an Anime version, but one could suggest that producing it before a faithful reproduction was made available is doing it wrong.

An interpretation of a popular figure is just that, and suggests others are availible. This isn't that, this is just an anime version of Liara.

Without a face, there can be NO animefying of Tali ever Posted Image  Enlarging her breasts can only do so much.

Not even if they tear her suit open to show some....flesh,  I guess and draw a smiley face on her visor? She'll most likely die in the process but she will be hot towards the otaku hordes and really, what more could one ask for in life?

I don't care if it is Anime or any other art form. I don't care if the rest of their statues look similar. What i care about is that they are trying to show Liara off as a 10-year old girl with Triple-D's.

Why? I would ask BioWare to withdraw the contract from Kotobukiya. It's a disservice to the character to sexualize AND infanitilize her like that.

And before you even go down that road. I love Anime. I lived in Japan for 6 years myself and grew up with it. That doesn't mean I have to like how -THIS- particular line portrays characters that have a character to preserve. And NOTHING in that statue resembles Liara in the slightest.

Make it a generic Asari Statue. Fine by me. It is not Liara however. And never should be.
