I'd argue that defining a story (and character) everyone has played differently is pretty much a screw up on itself. They should do a seperate, stand-alone story that may or may not be connected to the main storyline, like the novels.
No one is going to take away your experience with your Shepard. Just think of the movie as seeing someone else's take on their Shepard. No harm no foul.

I'm sure it will make money, but if I wanted to play a paragon soldier Sheploo, I'd make one, and that's what it's mostly likely going to be.
And one who romances Liara.

I've already seen the story of Shepard and it was amazing. Why would I want to see it condensed into two hours of bullet points with different actors?
You have, but there might be other people in the world who don't play video games who might want to too...

Well if they see it and like it, why would they buy the game if they already know what happens?

They wouldn't be making a movie if the series wasn't already so popular. For established IPs, part of the reason why a company is willing to risk the movie is because it comes with a pre-built fanbase.
I have absolutely no problem with paragon male soldier Sheploos, but as a fan of the series myself, there will be some 'eh' moments. This isn't like Prince of Persia or Resident Evil (even if they had stayed closer to the series)- it's a game with many branches, and it can't be translated directly to screen. But it's not a Marvel movie, where there are so many universes that everything is nothing is canon.

What makes ME1 so great isn't the premise of the story, but the amount of time we players (as active participants of its unfolding) get to spend exploring, discussing, and delving into the universe that Bioware created. What a skilled director has to pack into two hours of screen time, a skilled development team gets to fill with 30 hours of play time.

Why whould they buy the game if they don't see a ME movie if they haven't by now? I don't know about you, but if I saw a kickass movie and learned there was a game for it that let you make choices based in that universe, I would be pretty down for it.
Plus, what about people who don't play video games like Mass Effect? (i.e. the vast majority of the people in the world)

See, for me it's not even the ManShep thing. I'm used to seeing that guy who isn't my Shepard running around. In a way it's a blessing, because they can't ruin Shepard for me with the disconnect between Sheploo and the FemShep that I play.Valentia X wrote...

I'm far more worried about how they will 'adapt' the squadmates and how they'll manage to get the depth of story to fit into two hours. I simply don't think this adaptation will bring anything to the table, it will be inferior in every respect except for the ability to see real faces on the human characters. Who, admittedly, I care least about. Especially since they'll have different faces, voices and possibly different personalities as well.

You're insane. Media ports that cover the same material as the original source almost invariably do not live up to the quality of the original. Hollywood's history with video games shows us that video game to movie ports are the worst kind, as well.masseffectfan00 wrote...
Instead of a made up story from scratch. I would never watch a ME movie if it weren't based on the series and its good to have it based on the series because we already know the story is amazing minus ME2. I got a feeling that the movies will be just as good as the video games cause the story is just too good and they can't possibly screw up the movie unless they try to on purpose.
If you think that the movie will be good because it is based dirrectly on the game, then you are willfully blinding yourself to history.

Fair enough, it's a very good point. It might be partially annoying to me because while I love the story of ME1, I didn't care for any of my squaddies except Wrex and Garrus, and I see them as being pretty easy to screw up. Plus I'm afraid they'll be relegated to tertiary 'weird alien' status and I'd wind up having to listen to Kaidan talk about that one time at magic camp and Liara melt into blue puddles at Shepard's feet.
It's a all around DNW scenario for me. Won't begrude anyone who wants to see it, but what can you do.

You are not up to date. IGN is reporting that a panel with Legendary Films stated that they were going to base the movie off the first game.Lumikki wrote...

The FCW setting was only ever speculation and rumor.

Probably, but you can't make an omelet without cracking a few eggs first...let's just hope that this turns out to be the omelet and not another cracked egg in a LONG list of cracked eggs, most recently being Prince of Persia.
I'd rather them try and fail than not try; if it sucks, I'll just pretend it doesn't exist like I do with the second two Matrix films.
