See, for me it's not even the ManShep thing. I'm used to seeing that guy who isn't my Shepard running around. In a way it's a blessing, because they can't ruin Shepard for me with the disconnect between Sheploo and the FemShep that I play.Valentia X wrote...
I'm sure it will make money, but if I wanted to play a paragon soldier Sheploo, I'd make one, and that's what it's mostly likely going to be.
I'm far more worried about how they will 'adapt' the squadmates and how they'll manage to get the depth of story to fit into two hours. I simply don't think this adaptation will bring anything to the table, it will be inferior in every respect except for the ability to see real faces on the human characters. Who, admittedly, I care least about. Especially since they'll have different faces, voices and possibly different personalities as well.
1. It's going to be a renegade Shep who makes paragon choices ... just like every other action hero ever made.
2. True enough.

Thing is.... it's just a damn game. It really bothers you that much that BW creates an official canon for the series? It's just a game. It doesn't make your game any more real or fake.
Yes it would bother me. for many reasons. mainly since Bioware stated a million times that there isn't a Canon for Shepard. that would be a bit undercutting to me.
i lack the ability to just go "ah screw it. it's only a game". i don't go nuts over it like others do. but i still very much care.

I'd still watch that.

Was it said he would have creative control? If not, I doubt he'll have any more influence than most authors who get their books adapted. Which is to say, usually just a meaningless Executive Producer credit and no influence on the creative process whatsoever.gamer_girl wrote...
@Aris Ravenstar Legendary already said that Casey Hudson would be involved in the making of the movie. There is no way Casey would let any character go against what they were originally.

Shepard takes a backseat as a new character is slapped in and his parents will show up.
Someone will join the crew and he will be nothing but a running sex joke the entire movie.
Every scene will be super serious with a lot of wackiness in there. Example Shepard will have to chose between kaiden or ashley in vermire but The new main character is complaining that he can't find a job which will be the focus of the storyline. Kaiden dies because Shep likes Ashley's ass and we never see her again.

lol - so true. I can see that happening, pretty much like you said. Its Bruce Willis in 5th Element - he plays billy-bob-bad****, except when he is dealing with Lelu. He is a Teddy Bear for Lelu, and kills everything else that stands in his way.
But 5th Element had some serious actors in it like Ian Holm and Gary Oldman; there was a lot of talent on that screen. I do not know if the whole idea of ME1 will work in a movie - but as I look at something like 5th element I see that it just might be able to. There were aliens galore, a great story - many parallels.
We will have to see

There has never been a good movie made by adapting a game. Not one. Not even when the director is someone other than Uwe Boll. Games and movies present stories in such vastly different fashions that there cannot be any kind of reconciliation between the two media. I don't see how a movie based on this one could be any better. If they are going to make a Mass Effect movie, it needs to based on the universe, not the game.
Bollocks. Utter, complete bollocks.

Seconded.
Most movie adaptations that suck have -departed- from the story established in games to make for either
A. A story that has not been seen before due to the same arguments presented here ((seen it before)).... Eg Tomb Raider, Prince Of Persia, Bloodrayne
B. A story that is not cinematic E.G Super Mario Brothers, Doom, Mortal Kombat, Street Fightet 2
Mass Effect has a good story and that story is being told. THIS is a departure from the "It's a video game movie that sucks" because believe it or not, they are keeping the STORY that made the game successful..
Rocket scientist?... nope I'm not..
Brain surgeon ... no not that either...
but I don't have to be to see where the vid game adapations that are epic fail , failed.
All those that want the mass effect story NOT to be told are just asking for another tomb raider type movie
But thank the enkindlers Mass Effect Story IS being told....
Because it seems that the magic formula for -failed videogame movie- is to NOT use the story that made the game a success, or to create a new story for a game that didn't really have one.
Those arguing for a -different- story are just ignoring movie game history.
Oh yeah, mass effect that isn't about mass effect is going to be as successful as all them other -sucks-
Mass Effect that is unashamedly Mass Effect will likely be awesome....

Very mature. i never once insulted you. or attacked you personally. thats just not very nice. i stated very clearly what my concerns were. you make it out like anyone who has such an opinion as myself must be a Meganerd. not so much. i just have an issue with Bioware possibly going against what they have stated many times. i don't sit around all day thinking about it. it just bothers me a bit. why is that so hard to understand? i get your "it's just a game" stance. thats fine. i just don't feel the same way.
