You are not up to date. IGN is reporting that a panel with Legendary Films stated that they were going to base the movie off the first game.

The FCW setting was only ever speculation and rumor.

Damm, why they did that, now we get same content what we allready have about Mass Effect universe, not addional peak to something new.

Could've made a First Contact war movie.

Would've appealed to current fans who want to see what's up.
Would've attracted new fans to check out the franchise, possibly from ME1.
Wouldn't have touched any Shepard or decisions done in the game.

Maybe it'll just be set during ME1 but focus on something not at all related to Shepard. Although it would still need to be related to the Reapers somehow. So maybe not.

Why do people care about "canon"?

I mean, does the fact that my main character was an evil female in KOTOR diminish at all since they put the light side male as "canon"? No. If you cannot accept a differing story from your own, then you really need to re-evaluate your status as a Mass Effect "fan". I for one am tickled to death that Sheploo is getting a movie, even though I never once played as the default shep. Why? Because we have a chance to see ME on the big screen.

It does not diminish my playthroughs at all. It isn't like ME3 is going to default everyone to the male paragon character and not let you change it.

If the movie's going to be based on the first game, then the only thing it can contain without pissing all over everyone who played the game is:

~Cue normandy flying to Eden Prime.
~Cue Shepard and Co. landing to secure beacon.
~Cue Shepard getting knocked out.
~Cue ****ed up visions.
~Cue hunt for evidence/spectre induction.
~Cue random moment fighting Geth on remote planet.
~Cue random filler.
~Cue Virmire.
~Cue Michal Bay-esque 'splosion.
~Cue Illos.
~Cue Battle of Citadel.
~Cue Shepards Captain America pose.
~Cue Credits.

No, you're missing the point: people are going to try and use the movie to win arguments about what the "real" canon is.  And the type of people who do that kind of thing tend to be annoying, largely due to not shutting up about whatever it is they're intent on proving.

Better yet, Star Wars Episodes 1, 2 and 3.

So it's confirmed it's gonna be about ME (1)? No surprise there. Didn't see much of an alternative anyway. All the other stuff feels more like background filling.

If they make it about ME1 they should really split the movie in two parts like the last Harry Potter. If they try to adapt almost 25h of gameplay (my average), of which more than half is main quests and dialogue, into 3h of film, it will probably fail. They would probably cut Feros, Cerberus, most of crew dialogue and all the Hanshan Port part of Noveria.
