The movie will be based on ME1?
That's going to be an epic fail from the start.
I'm not going to watch a movie that will tell me that my Shepard isn't canon and that my romance choice is wrong.

If I would have wanted to see Shepard romance Liara I would have done that in a playthrough. Image IPB

This movie will be one of the biggest failures ever before it was even made.

LOL @ butthurt fanboy.

The move doesn't "tell" you anything. I find it sad that there are players like you, so withdrawn in their own little world, so fragile in their ego, that having a fictional character do something they don't want ruins their world.

It's just a movie. It doens't invalidate the game in any way, shape or form.

I followed a liveblog and they didn't disclose ANY details regarding the movie, much less which game it's gonna be based on. Can I have a source of this claim please?

Sorry for repeating. I am genuinely curious.

Glad too see its about the series. A fcw would be.... Bland. Glad to see more people feel that way.

Are people so psychologically fragile these days that they are offended by the notion that a movie based on a game may not exactly match their play-though 100%.

I wish the best for the film and I am eager to see it. Legendary Pictures is the studio that made Batman Begins, 300, The Dark Knight, Watchmen, and Inception so their technical skills are there. I just hope they have a capable director at the helm.

Ive read the links that people have posted in this thread about it, and there is no confimation at all as to whether it will be FCW, or ME1. The entire "Its going to be based on ME1" seems to be coming from the titles IGN and Gamespot are giving to the pages its printed the story on. People are reading the title, and then posting here before reading the actual article.

They should have just made a series, instead of movie. Would have given them a lot more time to explore the themes and the plot deeper. :)

Thanks for making me realize I'm not the only one getting that vibe. Hope people realize that this is all the very same shallow speculation it was before the panel...

making a movie based on ME1 is the only logical way to do it: doing something original runs the danger of not having enough interest, and won't appeal to non-fans anymore than an unrelated property. ME1 is also a great intro to the characters and universe, and also has a great story template to follow, with a satisfying and epic conclusion.

Exactly. I'm convinced that people who think the movie will somehow ruin their version of Shepard have some kind of learning disability.

35 million people in US watched Star Trek 2009 in theatres. Only 3,5 million people in US bought Mass Effect 1 + 2 combined. Do you really think basing it on the first game matters at all? 90% of the audience won't care, they don't know who the hell Shepard is.

Can't say that i'd be particularly bothered about watching nameless grunts kill turians on Shanxi for 2 hours.

From my experience Shepard and friends ARE Mass Effect to me... just read the books, etc and you will know this to be true... It would be like having the rights to the original Star Wars source material and then choising to ignore it and do your own original prequel trilogy instead and we all know how that turned out.

If you can retell Mass Effect in comic book form in less than 8 minutes (Genesis) fairly well then i'm sure in the right hands you can adapt it to the big screen quite comfortably... especially with it's small cast. The main story quest only takes 4-6hrs and it's completely linear regardless of your choices anyway and renegade choices wouldn't translate at all well to film.

I can't understand why people can't just accept other people's interpretations of books, films, games, etc. as just that. I for one am interested in seeing and hearing about other people's interpretations of great works of the day and contrasting them with my own which is why I frequent boards like these in the first place.

If people who don't know any better believe the screen adaptation to be canon then that is their decision alone to make and they are entitleld to it.

What would really interest me would be an alternate take on what ME2 could or arguably should have been that actually feels like a logical continuation of Mass Effect instead of whatever the hell ME2 was. Marc Walters free.

I'd rather a First Contact War film than a massively simplified version of the videogame.

Yep, the more I think about the Collectors connection to the Reapers felt tacked on because fans wanted it so. I think they should have stood for themselves as another ancient evil before finding evidence about the coming in the end and later Arrival, a giant side quest really but... I think it would have worked better.

If I could [re]write the screenplay for Mass Effect 2 I would probably get rid of the collectors entirely and have Shepard and his friends on the Normandy and in the Alliance bring down the Illusive Empire. Expose Cerberus: their agents, their government and Alliance puppets, their front companies, their history and command structure and their connection to the reapers. Go undercover to the seeder elements (E.g. Omega, Terminus Systems) and expose just how far Cerberus's web of lies/corruption/tentacles reach into every sector/level of the Alliance and government... meet up with ex-Cerberus agents (Miri and Jacob) to uncover new leads to help expose them and untangle the mystery... find and free Jack, etc.

Clear Shepard's name of all false charges by the Alliance... expose the Alliance leaders who are secret Cerberus agents (e.g. Udina) to stop the obstructionism and cover up in order to convince the Council and the rest of the Alliance leadership that the reapers do actually exist so that human race can prepare in advance of the Reaper's invasion so that we have some kind of fighting chance against them in ME3. WIN.

Goddammit, I really hope this is just someone trying to pull our leg here. Condensing ME1's plot into a 2 hour film is a recipe for extreme disaster. And it's really a shame that instead of expanding on the universe as a whole it still revolves around shepard *sigh*

If they do it in 100% CG and keep all the voice actors, they're on the right path.

Of course, that invites the problem of ManShep vs FemShep.

Personally, I'll go and see whatever they produce, simply because I can. You guys are being childish for complaining in the first place. No one is forcing you to see the movie.

i wish people would just grow up..

there is always a canon... that is how to move the stories along...

the world does not revolve around you or YOUR CHOICES... no one cares whether u embraces eternity with Liara or spouts poetry with Ash. Even if the movie is based on ME1 and has canon choices, just accept it and make do with it...

IMHO.. the FCW seem boring and pointless to do a movie on it.

I'm sure it will make money, but if I wanted to play a paragon soldier Sheploo, I'd make one, and that's what it's mostly likely going to be.

And one who romances Liara.

Nahh, Im thinking its going to be an earthborn sole survivor, with a neautral approach, who romanced ashley, Im calling it right now
