CRAP, I just read the articles about the movie being based on the first game.

Definitely NOT going to watch it.

I read an earlier article somewhere that said the movie might be a prequel - like how the humans uncovered the Prothean ruins on Mars, activated the Charon relay and then the First Contact War. I would have liked to see that.

But to take one of the actual games and make a film out of it is just a no-no for me, especially a game with such divergent choices as Mass Effect. The game devs at Bioware have said themselves that there is no "canon" version of Mass Effect or Shepard. Male, female, paragon, renegade - it's all good, and no options/play styles are more "official" than any other. Now that a movie is being made of the game, people might start to think that the movie version is the canon version. Not to mention all the "artistic liberties" the movie producers will most likely take with Shep and co's personalities and quirks.

No thank you, Mass Effect movie.

If this is just a big budget version of someone's Youtube LP Then fine. if they try and pass it off as canon...NOT fine.

Simple solution: treat the movie as apocryphal, non-canonical. Fan fiction, in other words.

The sheer amount of egoism and entitlement here is staggering. Your precious playthroughs won't be destroyed by a movie any more than they would be by someone else's playthroughs. Ugh.

I don't understand how anyone can think a movie based on the mass effect franchise can actually make money. It is no "star trek" or "star wars" or even "halo". At least some non-gamers have some kind of vague idea of what halo is. but who would go see a movie based on mass effect? Mass effect fans? Most (butthurt whiners) don't want to see a canon film based on a game that lacks a true canon main character. And the franchise may or may not lack potential for a true expanded universe that would be worthy of a videogame much less a two hour film. Non gamers? "What is mass effect?" I hope they don't make a mass effect movie. I think it would be a disaster.

When Star Wars came out who thought if it would make money?

Movie based on a new IP, or something already existing - it matters not. What matters if the movie is good or not. ME universe certanly has potential for a great movie.

Also, fixed the line for you.

I don´t care if they kill Shiala, the Council, emm if he marry Ash. What I care and I´m concerned about is the fact that is a game of 20 or 15 hours of rich history and perspectives, the movie will end having 1:20 of shootouts with zero sense, they will portray saren as a sadistic bastard and Benezia as her lover (sadistic too) and who knows what the hell they will do with biotics.

90% of which is shootring, inventorymanagemnt and minigames.

The basic ME1 story/plot isn't really that long.

But longer than 3 hours is.

Why do people keep mentioning timeframes?! Most of ME is spent takin cover and shooting, driving the Mako, unlocking crates, and doing other small tasks. If they make the movie I am more than sure they will not put in everything. They will just take creative realistic liberties with the story.

Example: I am more than sure they will not have Shepard talking with Gianna Parisini and trying to find a garage pass. Realistically they will have Shepard (A Spectre) hack the garage door and be on his way. Or they may just have Tali do it. So many pointless tasks and coversations in ME can be avoided in a movie format because they aren't limited to a game system.

I agree! You beat me to it.

The important plot of ME can actually be summed up in 2 or 3 hours. If people want to see more, they can buy the game. lol!  All the more incentive if it is good. Also who is to say that they will follow the ME storyline to the smallest detail. As long as they keep the lore right, the story and the important stuff right who cares how they do it.

I was hoping it would be the first contact war, not something with Shepard.

It's going to awesome! I can't wait to see it.
If it was about the contact war I don't think I would watch it.

It's going to suck like all video game adaptions do expect for what? like two that where decent? It's based on Shepard, it's not going to do well.

A movie based on ME1? Will it include the Mako climbing up ridiculously steep cliffs to find a downed probe?

We are all going to watch it, curiosity will kill us, just to later feeling terribly bad and dissapointed, just like when I went to see the movie of Avatar: The last Airbender.

Don't worry, i'll live. My sloth demon always helps with curiosity

I foresee huge loads of backlash if this is made based on the series. They really should just make this movie about something that wouldn't affect Shepard or the series, like as mentioned befroe, the First Contact War.

So far, Ive read the linked article (takes me to the Australian mirror), and watched the embedded interview, where the IGN girl (Naomi) is interviewing the IGN director (Jim), and nothing has been said about it being about ME1. The ony thing that was said, was by Naomi, stating she would like to see a female Cmdr Shepard, in response to Jims question abotu what she would like to see in the movie.
Anyone have anything that actually comfirms it being about ME1, or is IGN once again speculating, and proving you cant spell ignorant without IGN?

For what it's worth, I was reading the live blog during the panel, and they said nothing about the movie being based on ME1. This could of course be the live blogger messing up or me missing something, but figured I'd mention it anyway.

If they had actually said that, I'm sure more media bodies would have picked up on it, and actually offered a full bloody quote of that specific thing!

So they cut Feros just like they did in the Genesis prequel comic for ME2.  The Thorian was irrelevant to the overall plot anyway.

Eden Prime
Citadel (recruit Tali, Wrex, Garrus/ if no Therum: Liara)
----> optionally : Therum (recruit Liara)
Noveria (tweak plot so that Cerberus is tied to Binary Helix to introduce group for sequel)
Virmire (talk Wrex down, save whichever)
Ilos
Finale

That can easily fit into 2 to 2.5 hours.

Play ME again, Feros and the Thorian are very important.
