I agree. No matter how good the movie is, there was a real opportunity here to develop a true cross-media continuity, as exists in the Star Wars franchise, and it's been squandered. We've now, inevitably, got the "game-verse" and the "movie-verse".Kaiser Shepard wrote...
I'd argue that defining a story (and character) everyone has played differently is pretty much a screw up on itself. They should do a seperate, stand-alone story that may or may not be connected to the main storyline, like the novels.
Not that I don't understand why they went down this route, of course.

Also to the dude who thought Shepard doesn't have predefined characteristics. Wrong.

the world does not revolve around you or YOUR CHOICES... no one cares whether u embraces eternity with Liara or spouts poetry with Ash. Even if the movie is based on ME1 and has canon choices, just accept it and make do with it...
IMHO.. the FCW seem boring and pointless to do a movie on it.
Watch E3 2006 again. In the context of the Mass Effect universe that's exactly what Casey Hudson said. Are you calling Casey a liar?

I WANT the movie SO BADLY to be good. SO BADLY....but I'm worried about them fitting a 25-hour campaign into a 2-3 hour movie.

I think it's fairly safe to say that Casey meant the world within the game.

Yeah, I mean look at how well all the other video-game movie translations have been done.

I honestly have zero interest in watching a movie based on events ive already seen/played. i would rather have it based on something we haven't sen yet. something original and new. but i guess they have to consider what is likely to bring in more viewers

So yes, thank you for telling us that there is no canon when there is apparently. From now on you'll see comics with iconic Sheploo all in them, and suddenly they'll always use the pronoun he and be describing about how he saved the council and did everything paragon. Five years down the road Drew will release a novel called John Shepard, detailing his canon choices throughout the series... So pretty much, it'll be Revan all over again.
Thanks. Love you guys.

You guys do realize that, regardless whether the movie affects our games or not it will affect all future media relating to Shepard. It will always be a guy that does the things in the movie, because that's how 90% of the fanbase will know Shepard from. So yes, this is a crying shame, especially since Drew and Mac have went out of their way in the novels to specifically leave Shepard's gender and ideals out of question/mention.

Except that, after ME3, that'll be the end of Shepard's story. So.
And besides, most media - hell, just about all of it - depicts Sheploo as THE Shepard, anyway. You see him on promotional art, screens, box covers, et cetera. It's only recently that they've even entertained the idea of female Shepard trailer, and we've yet to see it. And it's ridiculous to think that '90%' of the fanbase are going to know Shepard from the movie - since most of the fanbase has kind of, you know, played the damn game. As for people who haven't, who cares what they think or percieve? If it doesn't change your playthrough, why is it such a big deal?

Well I've been saying for a long time, Liara is the intended default canon romance. There we have it.

Liara is the only ME1 romance I could never stomach to do,so a movie featuring her as the LI would turn me off right from the get-go.

These characteristics coem with a baggage. Shep is a military man/woman. Military mindset. You cna't change that. Part of Sheps personality is already decided.
Really..Shepard is not yours People. Get over that fact. You don't own him/her.
A movie doesn't change your game. It doesn't change anything.
Start using some common sense and reason, for the love of God!

Because these ppl want their Shep in the move or none at all.

Tehre is difference between 0 critics and unreasonable critics.
See, the whiners here are unreasonable and their logic is broken and twisted.
Criticism can only be complete and valid if it's based on clearn and concise element, rational thinking and possesion of all the facts.
No sane individual ever would just go around and say "this movie will suck" just based on just who the main character is, and wihout even knowing anything on the move story/pacing and actors. There isn't even a trailer yet.
