Doom... I just can't get into. I think it's how slow it is, but I do like bands that play it slow (Like Primordial and Agalloch) but I dunno... I just can't get into stuff like funeral doom and such.

It took me a long time to truly appreciate it, that and I have a good circle of friends and alcohol helped a lot in "experiencing it." Definitely not for everyone though, I know people who down right abhor it.

Also I am always pleased to hear some nice guitars in a game. Rcently, For a Higher Cause  from Witcher 2 made me quite happy.

Not to mention games like Serious SamUT 2004Emperor Battle for Dune and of course, absolute long time classics such as Red Allert, Duke Nukem, many NHL "XX" games, etc.

The best soundtrack I've heard in a game so far is Brutal Legend, but really what did you expect from a game that is based on some metal fantasy world? Lol

It was truly the best game tribute to the world of metal ever made...

Metal thrashing mad, welcome home, ghost in the fog... listening to that while blazing around in my heavy metal hot rod was fantasy fulfillment at its best.

I liked the older stuff from Metallica and Megadeth, most of what they make now is pretty forgettable though.

Metallica, yeah. Although Megadeth has stepped it up recently and their most recent album with that HeadCrusher song is pretty damn good, imo. But I do agree it's not as good as their older material.

Metal is like 99% of the soundtrack of my vids! =) Nothing fits them better!

Dragon Age - Rogues have fun too! (Children of Bodom - Bodom after Midnight)

And while I like all music in general, including many new metal stuff, there's nothing like good old school heavy metal. My favorite, Led Zepellin.

Led Zeppelin - Achilles Last Stand (Live)

Some intense tone.

After The Burial - Ometh

Conducting From The Grave - Marching Towards Extinction

Beneath The Massacre - Anomic

The Contortionist - Advent

Born Of Osiris - Follow The Signs

Cloudkicker - Dysphoria

TesseracT - Nascent

And last to break the "core" mold and put out the first mention here (shameful it took this long) of a truly epic progressive death band...
Opeth - Demon Of The Fall

This band has some of the best recorded vocals I've ever heard, when "Come closer for myself" cuts in the second time it is so godamn heavy.

Me too.     Kill em' all, Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets were Metallica's best albums.   And Justice For All was pretty good too.  After that i didn't pay attention.

How did I miss this thread? I live and breath metal. Mostly old black and death metal, but I appreciate any band with talent and chops. Atheist is absolutely brilliant for example and they can be hard to pin down as any one style.

Some of my all-time favorites, roughly in order they appear in my music directory:

Absu - The Sun of Tiphareth
Agalloch - absolutely everything they've ever released
Arcturus - My Angel EP
At the Gates - The Red in the Sky is Ours
Atheist - Unquestionable Presence
Bathory - Under the Sign of the Black Mark
Burzum - all but his recent releases. Yes, even the casio keyboard ambient.
Celtic Frost - Morbid Tales
Drudkh - everything
Enslaved - Vikingligr Veldi
Graveland - Carpathian Wolves, The Celtic Winter
Hate Forest - The Most Ancient Ones, Battlefields
Ildjarn - Strength & Anger
Lurker of Chalice (self titled)
Nokturnal Mortum - Lunar Poetry, Goat Horns
Rotting Christ - Thy Mighty Contract
Sacramentum - Far Away From the Sun
Summoning - everything
Temnozor - Folkstorm of Azure Nights
Weakling - Dead as Dreams

So thanks for that.

Oh **** man, Ulver! Yeah how could I forget...damn. Ulver is excellent. If you like Ulver, check out Agalloch. Maybe Sol Invictus too.
