Mine was:
Rock / hardrock (Kiss, Metallica, and other famous bands) -> metal / heavy / power (Iron Maiden, Helloween, Rhapsody, Savatage, Nevermore) ->gothic / black metal (Craddle of Filth, Samael, Dimmu Borgir, Satiricon, And Oceans, Old Man's Child)->some death metal (Septic Flesh, Tiamat)->folk metal (Falkenbach, Windir)-> - and than it was over :/

I feel like such an amateur metal fan with my preference for just Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Metallica, Judas Priest and that kind of stuff while everyone around here comes with black and death metal.
You're not amature at all! Those bands you just named are all classic heavy metal bands, and in my opinion all very good heavy metal bands (except for Metallica)!
Judas Priest is oldschool heavy metal goodness! And Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden are like the fathers of the heavy metal genre!

Punk rock tried to kill the metal... HA... They failed! As they were smitten to the ground.

OK, and what was your "evolution" guys?
Mine was:
Rock / hardrock (Kiss, Metallica, and other famous bands) -> metal / heavy / power (Iron Maiden, Helloween, Rhapsody, Savatage, Nevermore) ->gothic / black metal (Craddle of Filth, Samael, Dimmu Borgir, Satiricon, And Oceans, Old Man's Child)->some death metal (Septic Flesh, Tiamat)->folk metal (Falkenbach, Windir)-> - and than it was over :/
My evolution was a little like this:
The number on the left (for example 12 y.o.) is how old I was and the bands are what bands I started to listen at that age.
12 y.o. : Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Deftones (mostly nu-metal)
13 y.o. : Korn, Rammstein, System of a Down (still mostly nu-metal, but a bit harder)
14 y.o. : Killswitch Engage, Atreyu, Dry Kill Logic (mostly metalcore)
15 y.o. : Children of Bodom, In Flames, Ensiferum (mostly melodic death-metal)
16 y.o. : Finntroll, Wintersun, Equilibrium (mostly folk-metal)
17 y.o. : Dimmu Borgir, 1349, Naglfar (mostly satanic black-metal, I was pretty anti-christian during that time)
18 y.o. : Deathstars, Psychlon Nine, The Kovenant (mostly industrial-metal and a bit of goth)
19 y.o. : Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Racer X (for some reason I felt like going back to the classic heavy metal)
20 y.o. : Torture Division, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Dawn of Demise (back to deat-metal!)
21 y.o. : 1349, Satyricon, Diabolicum (back to black-metal!)
Now (22 y.o.) : The Project Hate MCMXCIX, Torture Division, Fleshgod Apycalypse, Dawn of Demise, Darkspace, 1349, Satyricon, Dimmu Borgir, Finntroll, Wintersun, Equiibrium (THE BEST of death-metal, black-metal and folk-metal!)

Metal is like 99% of the soundtrack of my vids! =) Nothing fits them better!
Dragon Age - Rogues have fun too! (Children of Bodom - Bodom after Midnight)
I saw that video when I was looking for inspiration how to play a rogue in DA:O! I was impressed. At that moment I didn't even knew you're here on BSN!
Nice to finally talk to the guy behind that legendary video.

Anyway, I'm from Canada.. we have some pretty good bands, most of them from around the Quebec area, but 3 Inches of Blood is from BC and then we have bands like Kataklysm, Blackguard and Quo Vadis from Quebec. There's also Ex Deo which is basically Kataklysm with Roman themed lyrics. Pretty awesome.
As for some maybe obscure Canadian bands you guys should check out.
Aeternam from Quebec (Melodic death metal with mythology like themes)
Battlesoul from London, Ontario (Celtic F'N Thrash!)

Amon Amarth actually got me into a lot more folk/viking metal bands.
Speaking of folk metal, does anybody like crazy folk metal? Stuff like Korpiklaani and the pirate folk metallers, Alestorm? That stuff is definitely not for everyone but damn if it isn't fun.

You have solid fundamentals, nothing to be ashamed of. Iron Maiden are legends.
So based on your preferences here I think I have the perfect band for you to check out:
Iced Earth - Stormrider
Iced Earth - Pure Evil
I'll be shocked if you don't love this immediately.
Matt Barlow is one of my favorite metal vocalists. He's got amazing range and clarity.
The live album this comes from, "Alive in Athens" is a 3-disc set and probably the most awesome live metal album ever released. The energy from the audience is intense...they are LOVING it.

My favourite Black Sabbath song is actually Heaven and Hell. I prefer Dio to Ozzy myself.
A true legend Dio is, it sucks that he's gone now.

Rap music sucks and so do it's fans. World would be a better place if more people listened to metal music instead so this thread has my endorsement.

A bit of Machine Head, Pantera and System Of A Down on bass. Most of it I was told to learn for a band that never actually perfomed any of it. Time well spent there.Tommyspa wrote...
How many of us here can actually play metal I wonder?
Oh, and Do Nothing/B*tchslap by Slipknot if you consider that metal. Fun as hell to play, especially with all the genre changes.
