Oh **** man, Ulver! Yeah how could I forget...damn. Ulver is excellent. If you like Ulver, check out Agalloch. Maybe Sol Invictus too.

Only just noticed this edit.
Will do.

Huh? Enemy of the Sun, Through Silver, Times of Grace, Sovereign, and Given to the Rising are all metal.

I'm curious if any of you out there like Attack, Attack!

I find their hip-hop/pop/metal/electronica fusion quite interesting.

Speaking of which, I've seen someone state (in a far ago discussion) that Metalcore isn't Metal. They're wrong.

No, they kinda fail in the fact that every song goes from triplets to the same basic octave power chord patterns, and excessive use of the squeelie "core" chord, I can't explain it, you just know it when you hear it (see that shred white and blue song.) And they all look like the same person and that do that silly run in place thing and that crab stance, oh god! the crab stance But that Stick, Stickly video was hilarious, I will admit that.

And yes metalcore is definitely metal, see Between The Buried and Me, Periphery, and Arsis

Entombed all the way for me. their newer stuff gets a little corny, but Left Hand Path and Clandestine are still two of the greatest metal releases of all time.

For any dudes that like "metalcore"(still hate that name) check out Integrity. Humanity is the Devil is a good one to start with.

On the previous issue of covers, my current favorite is probably Trivium's cover of Metallica's Master of Puppets. Don't have You-Tube access at work, sorry.

Metalcore is a mix between hardcore (punk) streaming and the early death metal streaming. So I'd say metalcore is only half-metal. =]

Though I used to listen to metalcore myself in the past, I hardly listen to it these days. It has become too soft and too standard for my likings. I'm also not a big fan of the typical standard clean-vocals that most metalcore bands seem to have. I'm also not a big fan of the very standard screaming/grunting of metalcore. If I want some actual quality screaming, I listen to black metal. If I want some actual quality grunting, I'll listen to death metal. Metalcore is just mediocre in both, in my opinion.

I'm sure there are at least SOME metalcore bands out there that go beyond the mediocre standard, but like I said: the average standard metalcore band is mediocre at best. Of course, this is all just merely my opinion. So no need to start an argument over this.

YES! You are at the right place here. I'm sure Dying Fetus is (or will be) loved by many people in this thread!

Welcome brother, in the BSN metalhead cult. ;)

Hey has any of you checked out Darkspace yet? I'm sure many of you will love it because it's so different from other black metal!

Darkspace manages to mix black metal with dark ambient and give a little sci-fi touch to it.

I'm curious as to what metalcore bands you've heard. Beause it does look liked you've heard some crappy sounding stuff. And yeah, there are VERY few good metalcore bands, its heavily polluted with crap these days. I just looked at my itunes and noticed I only have 10 metalcore bands, out of god knows how many. And the ones I do have are heavier than the base death metal/black metal bands I have.

Edit: 10/93 metal bands on my comp are "metalcore" So,  I guess based on my own experience, I agree pretty much with the mediocrity of the majority, but I'm slightly shrouded by the MC I have kept on it.

Metalcore is definitely not my thing at all. As far as death metal goes, I'm not a fan of most of the American stuff besides the old bands like Death, Obituary and the like. I much prefer European death over American.

Metalcore is a degenerate genre. Death to pretenders. Death to false metal.

LOL I hate almost all the bands you just listed with the exception of Born of Osiris, which is a rather good band because it's not pure deathcore.

All other hardcore, metalcore and deathcore stuff is... well... it's... in my opinion it's... well... just... not metal. Yeah, it just isn't metal, lets keep it at that.

Simply puth, I pretty much hate every music genre that ends with "-core". Name a music genre that ends with "core" and the chances are high that I hate it.
