Metalcore is definitely not my thing at all. As far as death metal goes, I'm not a fan of most of the American stuff besides the old bands like Death, Obituary and the like. I much prefer European death over American.

Amen to this.

Some of the best death metal bands of all time (in my opinion) are: Fleshgod Apocalypse, Dawn of Demise, Torture Division, Behemoth and The Project Hate MCMXCIX.

They obviously are all European bands.

Metalcore is an abomination. ;-)

:)

Hadn't even heard of the term 'metalcore' before this thread.
Don't see any real benefit in getting into a metal genre hairsplitting argument either. I just like music.

I mostly like power metal, but not exclusively.

Dio, Blind Guardian, Gamma Ray, Judas Priest, Helloween, Demons & Wizards, Kamelot, Edguy, Iced Earth, Rainbow, Queensryche, Blue Oyster Cult, Avantasia, Heaven & Hell, Slough Feg, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Black Sabbath, Domine, Mercyful Fate, King Diamond, and Stratovarius are the ones that come to mind right now.

I already miss Dio something fierce. One of the best, he was.

Just had to add a 'hell, yes' to that.

I thought it was kinda sloppy. I find their covers of Queen's Tenement Funster/Flick of the Wrist/Lilly of the Valley way better.

The slightly off moments in the song I thought may be intentional. Could just be sloppy and they left it that way.  Either way, it works for me.

As most note, trying to cover Harris' work presents a difficulty. Although, they seemed to not imitate Harris, so much as interpret his work for this song.*

The lead guitar and drums are right tight with each other during the entire gradual tempo build. The tinny tuned sound of the lead guitar accentuates and, i think, improves on the Bedouin styled sound of the original.

The vocals are very well presented, as though intended to try to emulate a common Fremen singing in the streets of Arrakeen, mad with barely restrained excitement. (all ofc IMO)

Will give the songs you recommended a closer listen to compare.

edit - * listening to both original and cover again, seems they do imitate Harris, as far as I can tell.

I'm deeply disturbed by the lack of Strapping Young Lad on this thread. Devin Townsend is god. Love? is one of the greatest songs ever.

Also, there should be mention of Black Sun Aeon, I absolutely love Darkness Walks Beside Me-album, and Routa is quite nice too.

It's only like 4 GB in all honesty, I don't know how I've gotten so many songs on it.. lol

Also, that isn't even all the bands I like.. it's just what I currently have.

I hear ya.

Most of my music is FLAC quality, so those songs takes up huge amounts of memory. One song can be as big as 20mb. So that's why I usually don't have more than about 50 different albums from 15 or so different artists on my iPod (16GB).
But the quality is niceeeeeeeeeeee.

My metal collection is HUGE and my overal music collection is GIGANTIC. My entire music collection takes up almost 250GB on my harddisk on my computer. 0_o
