Gawd.

The ME2 squad & Wrex (aka the Expendables) are all optional and by definition aren't making the "core squad". Time to get over it!

The core squad includes Liara, Ashley/Kaidan and Jim Vega.

Plus maybe a couple of other new faces, which will most probably be Feron (if only to fill the mandatory part of "the green alien dude") and that Batarian who got mentioned in the pre-Arrival CDN (although he may be temp/optional also).

Right. Just like how "the expendables" from ME2 had no chance of being squadmates in ME2? Just like how Garrus, a supposedly expendable character, is running around Sur Kesh with Liara in both ME3 demos? 

Point being, Bioware has proved that a characters death will not completely negate their "presence" in ME3. Once again, take Garrus for example - not only has he been confirmed to be a squadmate (not temporary) in ME3, but his character and model has undergone such a complete redesign that it was given its own video during GI's "Mass Effect May"; why would Bioware put so much effort into an "expendable" character? Why would Bioware bring Brandon Keener, Garrus' voice actor, in the studio back in April if he is a minor character? Wouldn't it make more sense to record his lines long after primary characters such as Liara and the VS have finished recording?

I was torn with Liara tbh. I felt I had to have a full biotic in the core party, but I loved Kasumi in ME2. I don't think she gets enough love sometimes.
