Competitive, I don't really know, I'd probably dislike it due to how the powers would work if you can't pause the game.

Co-operative I'd really enjoy.

You realize that you won't be able to pause in Co-op too right?

I'd like to see co-op not versus.... I think that fits this universe better than vs.

Its funny you know - no matter how many of us say that we don't want multiplayer in ME3, it won't count for anything - as in the end I’m pretty sure that that is what is being added, and that’s what the delay in release was about.

Think about how EA operates and the recent Dead Space 2, which had multiplayer added as well despite not really needing it. EA are not going to risk sells by shutting out one side of the market - it's just how it goes.

Personally I'm more concerned with the multiplayer side of ME3 effecting the DLC, as I can see lots of £8 'Map Packs' instead of quality story based DLC as its more profitable than paying for voice actors and the like. Dead Space 2 also recently got a Map Pack.

We'll see - I can't prove anything but I'm going by EA's long track record and experience - hopefully I'm wrong as the ME games have been among the best SP games I’ve ever played.

Multiplayer SELLS. It's a FACT

If the Multiplayer is good and meaningful to the actual experience.

Mass Effect games are already 20+ hour games with a ton of replay value.

ME3 doesn't need multiplayer.

I went from "YESss" to "maybe not" to "Yes if done well"

Those who say NO without any clarification, probably are people that don't do well playing competitive online games(scared to get owned). Or they do not understand that you dont HAVE to play the multiplayer.

Those who say No because they are worried it will effect the singleplayer's quality and DLC i can understand.. if that would be the case.

I love to play online competitive games and often makes the lifetime of game infinite(as long as there are dedicated servers). Not that ME needs more playtime.

Although competitive MP will acquire well balanced maps ,classes and weapons. A difficult and tedious process that if done well i would certainly give a try. Ill just have to insist on there beeing a "Hardcore" difficulty with NO AUTOAIM like Red Dead Redemption, one of the few other MP games i play on the Xbox, added after allot of complaints. :D

I think it would go without saying that if there were a competitive MP mode that it wouldn't be like the single-player game bit by bit. I imagine in order to keep things running smoothly in terms of abilities one would have to hotkey abilities to button controls so that you could just tap a button and unleash them. The pause power wheel wouldn't work.

If they can make it work I invite it. I know a lot of people don't want it to happen. But if it did and it managed to balance out the ME gameplay with a proper competitive multiplayer I would be receptive to it - especially if Co-op was in the mix or THE mix.

Firstly let me say that Mass Effect 1 & 2 were easily my favourite single player games of this generation. And I'm sure this is probably the 100th post on this subject.

I personally mainly spend my gaming hours playing multiplayer games and my favourite genre just happens to be the third person shooter genre. However about a month ago I decided to give the Mass Effect series a try and it really suprised me how good this game really is.

However I couldn't help but think, whilst playing Mass Effect 2 and being such a 3rd person shooter fan, dang. The movement, cover and shooting in this game would make for an amazing online competitive multiplayer experience, a lot of third person games fail at these fundamental elements, i.e: Socom 4, Uncharted, Splinter Cell, Lost Planet 2 just to name a few, these games just do not manage to get the movement, cover and shooting properly and it ruins the multiplayer experience in these games(for me).

I find it really strange that Mass Effect 2 has SUCH a good combat system but has absolutely no multiplayer options. Yeah, the game is still pretty dang amazing, but I personally think if Mass Effect had multiplayer, it would make the leap into the EPIC category.

I know, I know, some of you will say you don't want multiplayer for whatever reason, but a man can dream can't he?  -_-

I can see it now, 4v4, crazy customization options including choice of race, gender and appearance, class and skill options, leveling up and equiptment unlocking, mixing up skills with your squadmates. *druels*.

If you want competitive multiplayer mode then buy any one of the crap loads of games that have competitive multiplayer mode. Don't drag good games down to mediocre games that only exist to be a time dump and map pack DLC cows,

A good game or great game should never have multiplayer.

People like you ruin video games.

Oh and for all the above mentioned reasons why it will be mediocre and horrible and just rehash of existing games that can do it better then a developer with no experience in multiplayer shooters.

They could do a Fire Fight mode/horde mode you and 3-4
players take on waves of enemies, but put a Mass Effect twist give it a story element. ../../../images/forum/emoticons/ninja.png
I think it could be fun if done correctly, you still get
to be competitive but balance is no issue you play against the computer each
wave gets harder. Stats could be tracked headshots,# of kills etc.. It could
even add to single player game with new weapons and armor for completing the
different levels.

People like the OP are the reason why the bean counters are able to convince the big publishers to demand their devs make ****ty tacked on multiplayer for games that don't need it, let alone make sense for the game itself (Bioshock 2, Dead Space 2).

I enjoy multiplayer games but only when it's good gameplay wise and it makes sense. You'll get your damn multiplayer ME game after the trilogy.

While Mass Effect mutiplayer could be fun if done right, I'd much rather Bioware spent the necessary resources to create a multiplayer mode, on the single player game instead. If Bioware made a multiplayer mode for ME3 you can guarantee that the trade off would be a shorter or less fulfilling single player game. Resources are finite and time is limited.

Short of an MMO or a strategy game I think the Mass Effect games even beyond ME3, should remain a single player experience. People that want a multiplayer experience should stick to COD, Modern Warfare and Halo. There are plenty of games out there catering to that market already, without the Mass Effect games being altered to fill that niche as well.

I don´t mind a multiplayer game, but separated from ME3. Singleplayer and multiplayer should be kept separate as they have different gameplay concerns and methods, plus the fanbase of each one is not always the same. I wish ME3 focus on singleplayer and later on if bioware want to, they can create a multilplayer/coop game based around the mass effect universe. Big features such a multiplayer can not be an addon, they have to be planned from the start and the game designed around it, in the case of the ME series it was designed as singleplayer shooter/rpg that tells the story of shepard.

Why not co-op?

Ah hell, why not have co-op based game after ME3? Would be cool to explore the galaxy with your friends. :)
