Oh, how I wish Mass Effect had a competitive multiplayer mode.

The only way I saw this happening without devoting a lot of time or resources into developing an entire new section of the game like a full-fledged multiplayer would be is if you can invite a friend to co-op with you in combat only. Say they can take control of Garrus or Liara or somebody in your campaign in the combat/exploration sections of the game. No story changes at all, just as far as combat goes.
It'd also be cool to see what choices and how your friends play as well. Just my two cents.

I wouldn't mind a co-op of sorts. My friend and I are HUGE Mass Effect fans, and we always thought it would be cool if we could play together.

Its funny you know - no matter how many of us say that we don't want multiplayer in ME3, it won't count for anything - as in the end I’m pretty sure that that is what is being added, and that’s what the delay in release was about.
Think about how EA operates and the recent Dead Space 2, which had multiplayer added as well despite not really needing it. EA are not going to risk sells by shutting out one side of the market - it's just how it goes.
Personally I'm more concerned with the multiplayer side of ME3 effecting the DLC, as I can see lots of £8 'Map Packs' instead of quality story based DLC as its more profitable than paying for voice actors and the like. Dead Space 2 also recently got a Map Pack.
We'll see - I can't prove anything but I'm going by EA's long track record and experience - hopefully I'm wrong as the ME games have been among the best SP games I’ve ever played.
I disagree, when it comes to BioWare and EA... And DeadSpace and ME are just different games. It's not comparable imo. ME3 won't have a competitive multiplayer, and Casey even said this isn't a focus at all, nor should it be... it would be a shame for multiplayer to affect anything with singleplayer, aka DLC as you said. I want the focus to be 100% on what it should be, the RPG/Singleplayer experience/gameplay.
It won't happen. I can see something, maybe a type of Co-Op... but ME and BioWare games competitive MP just doesn't mesh, not part of the main games (aside from like SWTOR MMO obviously).. Imo anyways. Maybe in a seperate game after ME3.

Likewise the combat abilitys mostly revolve around stunning enemies or one shotting them, which means multiplayer wouldn't be very competetive as it would revolve around "Whoever pulled off their super overpowered class ability first, wins"
And dumming everything down so MP would be feasable would ruin single player.

Not a fact, it could work.Gibb_Shepard wrote...
You realize that you won't be able to pause in Co-op too right?
It makes sense to have it as at least an option, imagine two players developing their strategy at the same time.

Well, in F.E.A.R. 3 bullet time worked great in Co-Op.

I'd actually go ahead and say that traditional MP is not just unlikely it, well, let's just say, it's not going to happen.AquamanOS wrote...
Look Co op is even more unlikely than MP. They can't have two Sheps running around without really screwing up the story.

Casey said that they have been trying to make MP work since after ME1, but admitted defeat a few months ago.
And no, the squadmates are inferior in SP, you have no idea how they'll play in Co-Op. You could always have an additional cutscene in the intro of the campaign if you are playing co-op, where an Alliance Soldier (your friend's Shepard) joins you.
