So true.

Yes, Perfect Dark, Halo and Doom II: Hell on Earth are HORRIBLE games. HORRIBLE.

Not to mention Super Smash Bros, Rock Band, and Portal 2.

To say that multiplayer makes good games bad is completely untrue. Not that I'd want it for ME3, but I wouldn't mind a co-op mode. My friends and I all love ME and playing it together would be fun.

Casey Hudson said they started with RPG and they are going to end on RPG .Now that does not mean mmo is out of the picture for a Mass Effect it just means that shepards story will remain a RPG.

I'm not for this nor am I against it. From a subjective standpoint, looking at the basic mechanics of the game, competitive multi-player isn't possible unless they completely re-tailor classes and abilities specifically for it.

Games like call of duty have a relatively simple multi-player structure. They balance the guns making sure that they're not too powerful, but not too weak. All the perks are mostly situational and don't guarantee that you'll dominate the match. You can use the whatever guns and gun modifications you want to fit your play-style. In the end, everyone has access to the same exact gear/perks/killsteaks so, theoretically, the game is balanced. It just comes down to how good you are against the opposition in-game.

But, when you add classes with different set abilities, multi-player balancing becomes a whole different ball game. Now, Bioware has to take into account how each class fares against every other class. That, in itself, is relative. 80 guys could be having trouble playing their engineer against a vanguard or an infiltrator, while another 20 could be completely dominating the field with the same engineer. You'd have to have an active staff just to keep track of things like that.

The ability issue is just as complicated; because it would directly influence the strength of a class. Bioware would have to look at every single ability and analyze whether or not an ability is overpowered or underpowered and, somehow, adjust it accordingly. In short, they'd have to change every ability to fit competitive multi-player gameplay. As the abilities are now, some of them would be completely useless/impossible to implement i.e. Adrenaline Rush, while others would pretty much mean death.

"Balance is easy! Just do blah blah blah" No, in this case, it's not. With multiplayer class/class power games there are infinite variables to consider and imbalances WILL happen. Blizzard still hasn't figured out how to balance WoWs class system and they've been at it for years now. I understand those who want competitive multi-player, but y'all have to understand the amount of effort it would take to pull it off AND make it good. I just don't see Bioware putting that much into what would be a secondary feature.

As for co-op, not sure about co-op for the main game. But if you mean connecting with 2 or 3 other dudes and completing some crazy-hard N7 missions that are tailor made for co-op...then I'm down for that. I can see that being done.

This article is very much related to the subject

Please, less variety is not more game. Some people don't seem to want to see it though.

ME is a game for people who are anti social, we don't want to have someone else ruin our own little worlds of fantasy as we progress through the story line on our own. If we want to be social we go out and do things outside our front door with our friends.

If I want to go shoot something in "multiplayer" I'll go do some paintball or sport. Not burn my eyes out and go deaf listening to whiney teenagers rage against some poor person trying to learn the game. ME is a solo game, long may it continue.

People who complain about multiplayer on general principle are missing the point. If it's good.... then it's good. I didn't want multiplayer in Assassin's Creed, but Brotherhood did a great job and it was really fun.

No one wants 4 Shep-clones fragging it out in some stupid deathmatch Arena, but Bioware could assuredly make some fun and competitive multiplayer modes that feature a variety of classes, races, scenarios, and game types.

Could be indoctrinated vs non in an objective-based Battlefront type mode. Could be Alliance vs Turians in a First Contact firefight. Stop thinking it's just everyone's personal Shep slugging it out. There are tons of options.

Dear god no.

It is already God Of War/Call of Duty like enough thank you very much without adding in a stupid multiplayer function.

Unless a game is purely an MMO and designed from the ground up to be an MMO then you ALWAYS have a game that has a sucky Single Player and an Amazing Multiplayer; or a Sucky Multiplayer and Amazing Single Player.
And people ALWAYS **** that its never good enough!

I wouldnt mind for a Multiplayer ME spin off game in a few years; but for right now no. Keep ME singleplayer action-RPG. Thats what it started as, thats what it should finish as.

I play halo, doom and such when i feel like "shooting" and "grenading people" i dont really play MP much anymore usually free mode GTA4 made up games with other people..Mass effect 3 needs to be SPB only.the next ME game series can have MP but i dont want any MP/co-op at all in ME3

Super Smash Bros, Rock Band, and Portal 2 aren't even remotely close to being similar to the ME series, and therefore aren't relevant to the conversation. Those are about gameplay and were meant for multiplayer from the start.

Mass Effect has been about a roleplaying singleplayer story from the get-go, trying to make the gameplay and story fit multiplayer at this point would only make it suffer.

That's not the complaint. The problem is the more resources get devoted to MP, the less they are to SP.

- Since there was quite an interesting discussion in Central Comic Con thread about Casey Hudson's response to question about multiplayer in one of Comic Con's Q&A, but the posters have been asked not to derail the thread and to disucss it in its own, I've decided to post here.

:bandit:http://www.livestrea...ab-08e92d12c78d (4:28 video time):bandit:

From one of the recent Q&A it sounded like Co-op/MP is not going to be in ME3.

I would like to point out that , making preliminary conclusions or reinterpreting and / or adding own content to developers' (sometimes carefuly worded) replies might be dangerous. It may lead other people, who jumped to such conclusions, to accuse developers from going back on their words, should it turn out, that what they thought that "developers had said" was in conflict with reality.

And I am affraid, this might be the case here... Well, at least the "preliminary conclusion" part...

... and at least in my opinion, because I can't see the clear line between Casey's statements and conclusion which some / most of the posters here reached.

What I got from this interview, was confirmation that Bioware has been working on multiplayer technology for a long time (we have always been working on things we want to do in future for  "multiplayer kinda stuff" in terms of Bioware technology / we've been hiring network programmers), but at present time, as far as development of  Mass Effect 3 is concerned, they are focusing on singleplayer, because they find it to be the most important... and if they decide to implement multiplayer / co-op modes in future * (if we do stuff with multiplayer in future) they will announce it in advance...

* Now I am not sure what to think of Casey's use of word "future" because he kind of puts it in contrast to term "Mass Effect 3", so maybe by "future" he really means Bioware's future games and not Mass Effect 3. But still, in my opinion, we can't be sure and more importantly, we can't make final judgements... or statements... on Bioware's behalf in one way or another.

That being said, the burden of proof lies on people who claim something, i.e. - who claim that Mass Effect 3 will have multiplayer. Not on those who deny it.

Maybe yes, maybe no. It's not uncommon at all for a dev to utilize a multiplayer team whose only task is the online stuff, with nary a soul from the main project being diverted to work on multiplayer. That is one of the advantages of being part of something like EA, in that if they decide they want to do multiplayer, then can just throw money at it to hire a bunch of guys to do just that. At which point the hope is just that the component is quality, not that the single player suffers because of it.

Regardless, I think the point still needs to be whether multiplayer is good or not, not whether it exists in the first place.

Not every game needs to have multiplayer to be great and i for one would not want to see multiplayer of anyform in the trilogy .

See, I don't get that. I agree that not every game has to have multiplayer to be great, and often the multiplayer that is in a game sucks donkey parts.

However, IF the multiplayer is really, really good and can extend the lifespan of a game, be engaging, and expand the online community if not the entire brand even further... how is that a bad thing?

I would be more interested in a spin-off set in the ME universe centered around exploration and loot gathering (taking ME1's ideas/systems and refining the crap out of them). Adding cooperative multiplayer to a game like that would be fantastic, IMO.

Adding multiplayer to ME3 at this stage would just be catastrophic. I just don't think that the in house playtesters would have enough time to go through everything, and a beta would just be...odd for a series not known for player interaction of any kind.

Old thread so of course nobody will read it.

So long as you're willing to pay for it aparantly you'll have it.

From the locked threads
So I know this is a sore subject with most people, and I am tired of hearing rumors about it too, but I just had a games conference for my work where publishers come in and talk about upcoming games and we get to see/play demos. In the presentation for EA they brought up Mass Effect 3 and pointed out the best points about the game and the Collectors Edition.

In these bullet points, and stated by the EA representitive presenting the game, there would be a multiplayer mode available as DLC around a month after the game is shipped. No other information was given, maybe it's something they're announcing at Gamescom? (some of what we got to see were said to be "exclusives" as they were not due to be shown until gamescom.)

That good enough for you Chris?
