Maybe because you want to stay authentic to your Shepard's intentions.
For example, Thane was never even recruited on my canon. I'm an infiltrator & recruiting Thane seemed unneccessary and time-wasting.

Not just that but in this particular situation it isn't like it can be wiped under the carpet.... or like you didn't bother recruiting Wrex and thus he has no real mention in ME2 other than that he killed a Thresher Maw on his Rite of Passage.
So it could be argued that people who ALWAYS release Grunt from his lifepod are going to miss out on seeing what happens if you don't... so what was you saying about missing content?
@Dragonkimber there is no way they are going to tell us before the game is released what happens if you don't wake Grunt. If you think they would, then you really are deluding yourself because it could be deemed spoilerific.
The only obvious thing is that he'll most likely just be mentioned as to what happened to him. He won't be referred to as Grunt most likely not though, more so possibly just 'Krogan Experiment' or 'Okeers Project' or something like that.

My guess is that he would have been poached by the Alliance (after all, don't they recreate the Normandy in next game, hence finding him and Legion?), in which case we may not hear about it at all, or we may get some unique dialogue from Mordin, or on Tuchanka or the Salarian homeworld. These are educated guesses, and it's possible that even Bioware doesn't have a full answer yet. We'll just have to wait until release.
