My character is I guess what they call a hybrid? I'm not tanking but going for top tier light armors instead and switching from staff to S&S depending on the combat sitch... So far its fun mind blasting a group, frosting one, cone of cold for others, stonefist from Wynne, all the while hacking them to bits (when everything goes well)... Looking forward to group paralyze and Miasma down the road, as well as MC and CP... All in all this is a great (as many of you veterans already know) way to play a mage, and would like to hear from others as to their thoughts and opinions or how they played an AW!
Man, Arcane Warrior is fun!

This now my 3rd playthrough, having played a human and city elf rogue/assassin/duelists previously... I had originally decided to play a plain mage, but because I had previously unlocked AW from my previous 2 plays, I decided at level 7 to just run with it...

I am really enjoying playing one also. I have been playing rouges and fighters up till now but decided to try a AW. Like you i use the best light armor i can find but dual weapons ( pair of daggers) along with the staff. So far it has been the easiest run i have had, i can not believe how well every fight has gone. love using crushing prison on an enemy mage or anything Elite. mind blast so may party can tear into them, just keeping them on the ropes with the spells and sticking them with the daggers as the spells charge up. I think at lvl 14 i will add in the spirit healer for the other.

I had previously done a spirit healer/blood mage playthrough and eventually lost interest from simply nuking everything and killing targets before they could even get near my mage. I was also trying to get the blight queller achievement, which was also my last remaining achievement to get, and so I decided to do a solo run as an arcane warrior.
All I can say is...wow! It is fun going through dungeons with my dual wield arcane warrior, that are meant for a party to take on, and yet my lone aw warden can handle it just fine. He does plenty of damage with the dual weapons, and with his insane defense and resistances, little can hurt him. It's also nice to have a bit of flexibility to have the heal spells, crowd control spells and the buffs, and be able to respond to any given situation. The only part of traveling with a full party that my warden missed out on was the party banter. On nightmare difficulty, he solo'ed the Ser Cauthrien fight in Arl Howe's dungeon and the archdemon fight with little trouble. These fights actually seemed tougher with a full party, as usually I'm concerned with keeping everyone alive, as I like to have everyone with 0 injuries throughout the game.
On occasion, my arcane warrior switches to a staff, but that is primarily for the spellpower boost when casting sustainables, or when enemy archers like to play a bit of hit and run and I don't feel like chasing after them. If enemies want to fight from a distance, my warden will just start tossing fireballs their way. 99% of the time, my arcane warrior dual wields Vigilance+Voice of Velvet to devastating effect. Even if my warden gets hit with a dispel or glyph of neutralization, he still does enough melee damage to finish off the fight without combat magic.

My AW/Spirit Healer/Battle mage canon is the only one to date that can breeze through GoA on nightmare. Everyone else I have to drop the difficulty to normal or hard.
