What bothers me, is how this whole thing has managed to get people all hung up on what Shepard should look like, at all -- it just feels like a great disservice to the character option, which, I feel, was the stronger, thanks to the lack of focus on appearence, whether "Hollywood standard" or not.

Somebody mentioned how Jacob, ironically, had a line in ME2, where pretty much this exact photogenic supplanting had taken place in-universe.
It would be funny, to me at least, if BW would spin on, on that and make their trailer, with whichever pop-lolita they pick, give her her three-hour-to-apply battle makeup and hairstyling, give her whatever chainmail bikini/micron-thin spandex one-piece they can come up with and a pack of bubblegum, then throw Michael Bay and whichever contemporary pop-rock sensation of the day, at the whole thing....
Last few seconds, though: dolly back, to reveal the trailer as the trailer for some in-universe: "Shepard, the movie", which old "Plain Jane" facegen preset Shepard facepalms watching, while Jacob stands by, looking awkwardly sympathetic.
Token self-irony

I would be completely fine if all the faces listed come up as a preset options in the game, I don't care much which will be the default one.

Thou, I would love to have #1 as one of the options. I simply love the short hair and she looks like a proper, no-nonsense marine. Unlike number 4, who looks just too... vain and impractical. Same goes for number 6.

5 goes along with 4 and 6.

Edit: if we're going by what you are saying.

Issue is how many variables is enough though? You will forever be tweaking the design if bioware opened it up any more. Having six options is a good amount I feel as it shows enough variety. You just need to choose what most important to you. Anyway everyones opinion is valid as femshep can be played by everyone. I think each of them looks capable and a lot of the criticisms against blonde Shepard are unwarranted.

Heres a very good blog entry as well.

Thank you for the article, it’s very nice indeed. Image IPB

I’m a blue-eye blonde as well and I can so relate to the not being taken seriously part, and looking back how it used to upset me a lot, and now I actually *love* to be underestimated. It’s the ultimate icing on the cake to see the look on people’s faces when I prove them wrong! :P

But it can be very frustrating when people can’t look past your physical features, isn’t it? I’ve seen an absurd amount of prejudice and hypocrisy on the responses on how Shepard should or should not look, and it’s crazy. That other article (don’t want to quote that woman’s name) was just insane and so incredibly offensive on a whole other level. A part of me refuses to give it more buzz than it’s already been given, but I also can’t help but feel like that woman and maybe the magazine as well should have apologized publically. It was just not okay.

Also, how most of the whiners chalking #5’s popularity up to superficiality – are being the most superficial of all. I have obviously voted for my favorite, but honest to God, I would seriously be happy with any of the other choices. They all look like strong women. Besides #5, I particularly like #2 and #3 the best, and I like #4’s face a lot, just not the hairstyle.

And I also love the beauty mark under #5’s eyes, I think it’s a nice touch and it makes them look more human, like you said.
Now we need these wallpapers released (with all the options, they all look amazing) to put on our desktops! Image IPB

Sure it isn't. But why not look good while you are doing the killing? I kinda like the 4th.

As such, because the majority of femShep players are female shouldn't the female fanbase have the say?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHA.

That is so.... well....

The majority of ME players are male. So we should decide everything else, right?

Besides. that just isn't true anyway.

Are you honestly saying that the percentage of players who use femShep are 50% (male) / 50% female? I don't think so.

I think Bioware is aware of their female fans and throws them a bone once in while. Unless you're saying that the whole Garrus romance was for mainly for their male players.

You know what I hate? When people assume things. I didn't say either of those two points. What I said was that your idea was wrong on many levels. And if it went into practice would result in alot of dumb decisions.

I wonder If they are going to let us edit our ported Shepards, cause if they do I want to use 4 or 5 hair for my Fem-shep. This is the first we actually see long hair, maybe male-shep will get long hair choices as well :D

5. Barbie girl femshep ftw, she looks like she is craving some xeno penis.

Kind of glad femshep is getting a dedicated default look now, rather than some wide at the eyes place holder face with disgusting spaghetti Bolognese hair.

I agree with all this completely. One of my most used FemSheps looks a lot like 5 in fact yet I never voted for her for some reason, instead choosing one of the orhers. I just have this thing where I like to support the losing side.

Can I vote for non of the above? Not that they are bad or anything, but I don't think that femshep should look like an emo/Rhianna/12 year old.

Just sayin'

Agreed. And people have you noticed that YOU HAVE MAKEUP OPTIONS IN THE GAME. YES SOME SHEPARDS DO WEAR LIPSTICK COLORFUL EYESHADOW AND BLUSH. AND LOOK YOUNG. THEY'RE STILL SHEPARD.

Sorry about caps but there is no one right way for Shepard to be. Be happy she's being noticed by Bioware at all, I never thought we'd get anything like that, so be grateful, stop complaining.

Godammit I gotta take a break from this forum. It's starting to sound like kindergarten "but my Shepard is better" "no, mine is" "is not" "is so"

To me, it was obvious just from looking at the candidates that the largely male dominated fandom were going to vote overwhelmingly in favour of the most generically hot character. I think it might have been more interesting if only girls were allowed to vote. Not that it really matters because you can customize Shep to look however you want.

I'm sure many have taken objection to you post but I have chime in with my "2 cents". There is so much wrong with you post that I honestly don't know where to start. May be it's the overgeneralization of guys voting for the "Hot" blond. For the record not all guys think blond haired blue eyed women are the standard of beauty so I find you presumption to be insulting to say the least.

This, lovely post. I voted for #5 because she looks a bit like me, and the rest is all looking fantastic. I'm working on two doctoral theses, got first degree honours at one of the best universities in the world but as far as most people are concerned (including most of my less bright colleagues) I'm just the token bimbo.

And now a blonde is saving the galaxy from the Reapers. Take that.B)

David said the poll will last two weeks from the date it started. So its got five days left. They will announce winner to avoid confusion.

Additionally yes from the looks of things Bioware have no intention of altering any appearances. What you see is what you will get.  If you want redhaired shep to win then you will have to vote for redhaired shep #2

I would've voted for 5 if she had red hair, but instead I went for 4, since she seems to be the most suited for the role of Shepard..
