Also, I am more than sure that Fem Shep will not look like this in game. Just Sayin. This is just the CG/ trailer one.
Definitely, we'll see later on how this translates to in-game modeling.
I hope its as good as VanderShep/Sheploo.

Good post, on every point.Balek-Vriege wrote...
I agree that Shepard's complexion/age could look a bit older/hardened, but not too much. Why would she look "old" when she's only 30ish, lives in a world where genetic therapy and medical advances allow people to live 150+ years and is technically a two/three year old, since she was rebuilt from scratch as even more of a supersoldier during the Lazarus Project? I favour mostly, if only, a more hardened Femshep. Again, it just doesn't make sense that Shepard would look 33-45 by today's standards (same goes for Sheploo, but that train left the building a while ago).
That photo edit of Femshep 5's complexion is great and matches Sheploo in detail. The original is concept art, so hopefully we get something like photo 2 of femshep 5 in game, which seems to be the obvious winner atm.
As a side note, it seems a lot of people have problems with blondes (stereotyping anyone?). Firstly, just because some of us have a problem with blondes being intelligent, successful or skilled, or by many choosing Femshep 5 somehow shows how "sexist" society is against non-blondes, isn't the point. The point is that Bioware asked people to pick the Femshep version they liked best and it happens to be 5. Many also like 5 regardless of her hair colour. Secondly, I think we can count the NPCs in Mass Effect on our hands who are blonde in game. If anything, they're underrepresented in the Mass Effect universe.

She(as of ME3) is a 32 year old Commander.
32 in the human lifespan of Mass Effect is equivalent to the youthful appearance that she has in the models.
So I understand the desire for her to look older, but from a lore perspective, its questionable, no?

Perhaps they'll touch it up a bit b4 the trailer comes out. I'm thinking they're all pretty much rough drafts. I hope so.

You talking about Shepard? Cause Shepard has a set age. 29 in ME1, 31 in ME2, 32 in ME3(if I have the timeline correct).

I am too. The only thing is I am kinda sure I am not because how would Bioware change the default Shep in ME 2 or ME1? Unless they released a patch(which I highly doubt). I could forsee them changing her for a future ME collection with ME1 & 2 remade/upgraded though.

This is absolutely disappointing.
Not only do ALL the choices look like 17 years old supermodels, and NOT experienced marines, like FemShep is, but it is absolutely degrading and just sad that the appearance of FemShep is put to the vote.
Here I thought things were looking up when it was announced that FemShep would get an own trailer and would be on the boxart...but apparently Femshep will not finally be acknowledged as an equal counterpart to MaleShep, but is thrown to the mercy of the fans and degraded to a stupid beautycontest to determine who is the "hottest spacebabe".
Seriously Bioware? You let the people decide who declared Jack too ugly? Ashley too manly? The people who create mods to show more cleavage on the female characters? The people who altered Miranda's face because it wasn't pretty enough for them?
Is that really the direction you want ot take? Why can't you design an equal to MaleShep? A seasoned, experienced female Soldier and present to us YOUR design, and then STAND TO IT.
Let the haters rant, but PLEASE don't stoop down to this levela and don't make FemShep a friggin Fanservice for those who want to look at a hot woman when playing the game.
This.
I wouldn't mind so much if they let the fans decide what the male Shepard should look like in ME3, too. That wouldn't make it less stupid but at least equal.
Or how about Vega? Personally I don't find either of them attractive. But I never much cared for Sheploo since my canon Shep is female anyway. Plus I can't romance myself (=Shep), so what does it matter? As long as he's not an eye-sore, it's fine.
Also I understand that since most men play Sheploo he better not look like Kaidan but tough and a little mean.
Vega on the other hand is very likely going to be a romance option. So I actually do mind what he looks like. Because, yes, attractive characters sell better. No denying that.
We're all superficial to some extent. BUT these femShep design are just a bit too much. They are better fits for an anime style RPG than a realistic looking game such as ME.
That's what disappoints me the most.Vilma wrote...
I don't think anyone has said that. However, people have disagreed on what is a good-looking woman, which is fairly common. Also, by now Shepard is supposed to be in her early thirties. These models are not, which is the main problem to a lot of people. Thirty-something woman can easily be attractive, but the way to make her look attractive is not to cut ten years off her age.Dragoonlordz wrote...
I find it funny how people assume great looking women can't fight or they are inferior in any way. That an attractive woman can't possibly fire a gun or fire it accuratley or that she could not ever be someone with charisma enough to lead a team into battle. Being attractive actually has more of positive influence of forming groups and peoples following, being good looking physically has no affect on ones ability to fight.
Also this.
Let cover femShep look good. But let her look like a real person, too. A mature real person.
I modeled my canon Shep to be pretty in a normal sort of way. The way an actual person might look like (except for the purple eyes *g*).
Then again I'm a woman myself and don't need my femShep to look like a porn star to spice up the game.
To the first part: Again, the whole argument boils down to this: If someone doesn't want a space babe don't pick the new Femshep preset. Femshep has been missing a very good looking model face akin to Sheploo. Mass Effect 1 and 2 have plently of customization for unnatrictive/plain Jane faces. The argument against pretty Femsheps seems to be more about getting what someone personally wants and believes, over what many want and being different than the rest of the pack. Call it fanservice or whatever, its something people have been asking for and having the option to play a "space babe" doesn't effect the option not to in this case. So there shouldn't be a problem.
I agree with the second part, but like I said before: Lore wise people in Mass Effect are able to choose what their kids will generally look like, live to 150+ years and gene therapy is becomming increasing common (mandatory for Alliance service adding strength, endurance etc). The fact is, humans by that time, even in reality, will probably look 20-30 up into there 50s, 60s and beyond. Hey it was even in the news recently that some scientist(s) I think were predicting the first person to live for 150 years is already born and the first person to live to 1000 will be born in the next 30-50 years. With enough genetic research and advancement, there might be a lot of young, "pretty people" in the future.

I guess it would depend on the state of wrinke creams, Botox, and gene therapy in the future?
As it stands now, a 30 yr old looks about the same now as they did in 1900 (when the avg. lifespan was 49).
So yes, she needs to look 32 not 22.

What
I mean is, keep her facial structure, hair, hair colour, etc., but see
if it's possible to make her look a bit older/hardened.
I mean here's Sheploo:

Anyone here who thinks they could apply the same kind of grit to Number 5's face?
Not the same, just some of it.
This, this! I want this femshep! She looks badass and not like some little girl.

Well yeah, I knew her roundabout age. I am just saying because of the the medical advancements you couldn't tell if she was 25 or 40 if you were to meet her. People age differently which is why she looks young.

Well, we're not applying real life things here. We already know that humans remain looking youthful much longer than in today's world. So effectively, a 32 year old would look like someone in their early twenties.
This is sort've explained in the novels, I believe.

Yeah, people still age differently in the ME setting, but I think Bioware is going for the "Shepard remains youthful" look. Attracts more people to the franchise.
