She's still my first choice even with the other hair. At least her bangs are cropped, they can't get into her eyes. Can't say the same for 4 or 5.

Here are two other versions of 6... I just think her face is beautiful, regardless of how she wears her hair. It's a shame she's in dead last.

Shepard No.3 has the same hairstyle as the red haired femshep, yet for some bizarre reason Shepard No.3 has nearly twice the number of votes as red haired shep.  Now if you are saying that red hair is popular I would at least expect the red haired shep to be polling a lot better than the black haired shep wouldn't you ?

Shepard 3 has a unique face, that's what's winning her some points. And her hair is a ponytail with a little bump in the front, it's a bit more visually interesting than a bun.

Not really even a straw poll on BSN puts red haired Shep second to last with Black haired shep beating Red haired by at least 5% (the poll in this very topic).

I appreciate people have their own preferences, I like blonde hair and I am pleased to see Blonde Femshep doing well but lets not fool ourselves here Red Haired shep is not doing very well in either the BSN poll or the facebook poll so it is a bit of a stretch to say "most people prefer red hair".

I think they are going by all the posts saying.... #5 with red hair! 

These people are still voting for number 5 b/c of the hair style, so of course their votes aren't going to show up on the poll for the short, red-haired option.

Yep they are, let's totally ignore the nearly 15,000 that voted for blonde femshep shall we .  I don't deny for a second those that want red hair are more vocal but that doesn't mean red hair is more popular.  I voted for femshep 5 on facebook but I didn't make a comment to declare how fantastically wonderful blonde hair was and I bet a fair few that voted for blonde femshep didn't post a comment either.

And I wasn't the one who said pretty people can't be soldiers! There are certain social  factors that lead to people with super model looks preferring to seek other careers than the army, but of course looks don't have anything to do with capability! Very true and I understand where you're coming from.  Don't take all my points to be directed at you since I try debate the general concept of the discussion instead of word for word what was posted.


Based off the lore and all the things I mentioned before, I don't think people would take Shepard less seriously because of her youthful looks.  If at some point in the future age stops governing youthfulness, then the preconceptions of age and looks would disappear as well.  I do agree that many of us have a hard time with it, but I personally (and it seems a lot of others) do not.

As for the social standards you're quite right in that regard.  However, all the backgrounds cover this.  Earthborn you're a gang member looking for some place to go and the military is a very viable option.  Colonist gets saved by the Alliance and feels beholden or lost, so ends up joining.  Spacer only knows Alliance life and follows in parents' footsteps.  Then there's the service history, which makes everyone in the Alliance take Shep serious and of course, the events of ME1.  However, that doesn't mean that a pretty female Spectre waltzing into a red sand dealer's hideout isn't going to made fun of (Lord Darius). 

I guess what i'm getting at is that it doesn't take much, or any suspension of belief in my opinion to have a young looking Femshep/Sheploo that's experienced and trough.

There's always custom Femshep for an older looking and tough protagonist, just as there's custom male shep for a younger looking, less mature protagonist.  What people have wanted for a long time is a high quality unique face and it might as well be "optimal."  If it's not, it would most likely displease the majority of people who actually requested such a thing.  That's why there's 6 versions and they're letting us decide.  What we can all hope for is a better custom character creation as well.
