Argh, but she looks too young! I want a tough, hardened b*tch, not this teenage whippersnapper.

Personal anecdotes are meaningless as evidence...
An anecdote is an example or story based on the speaker's (or even referencing another individual) life, i.e., Incident A happened to me three years ago.
Using an anecdote as evidence would be as follows:
Incident A happened to me three years ago, therefore Reason B is false.
I did neither as I was providing a hypothetical situation, hence all of the question marks. If you do want more details upon my thoughts, please refer to my previous post.
Perhaps I wasn't clear, but I was actually saying that to preface my own anecdote. I was using myself as an example of a female FemShep fan and player who is also a fan of #5, implying that they aren't all horny teenaged boys or ManShep players just voting for "TEH HAWT ONE!!1". However, since I don't have the statistics of all the Facebook voters I am not going to be so arrogant as to assume that this isn't the case, since I am only one voter of many. That said, the #5 Femshep design shouldn't be dismissed out-of-hand as "grr they just picked her because she's blonde and pretty!"

That's because most gamers are male. I wouldn't expect most male gamers to judge a male character over how hot or sexy he is at all.
Unfortunately, I think you missed my line of thought here. Your statement is obvious. I was explaining how priorities are significant and how they play a role in a character's representation, around which my entire post is centered.
That's just inaccurate. Most people who likes 5 like her for...
Actually it seems your opinion...It seems that dislike 5...seems like a bimbo...
Many seem to think even me that 4 is better looking then 5 but guess who's winning?
Asides from missing my entire point again as I'm concerned about representation and the why and how of the matter, it is obvious throughout your entire post that you are basing your arguments on your own biased samples and state that I am judging Shepard based upon her appearance. I will not get into the errors of treating a biased sample as externally valid nor will I elaborate upon your use of ambiguous diction to misrepresent my own words. You provide no sources but your own biased opinion on what "seems" to be. What you mean to say is: "Many seem to think on this page or thread that 4 is better-looking." And even if we rely upon the statistics (which themselves are not empirical and highly biased), we cannot infer everyone's reason for voting. We can only observe the actual comments and those admitting why and how they voted that way and use this information to hypothesize or theorize. We cannot say that most people believe 5 is best-looking because the poll is asking which design is preferred--not which Shepard is hottest, despite many of the comments regarding such. But with relation to appearance, of course I am; that is the entire reason for my post(s). I see her long hair in her face and think--that is not military regulation, but I understand why people like that hair style--my own Renegade Shepard showcases a similar style (because it fits her uncouth personality). I see comments on how "hot" Shepard is while I'd rather see comments stating why this particular model fits Shepard as a character. This entire discussion concerns appearance and representation.
It is as I stated previously:
I just worry about Shepard's representation just as I'm sure there are those that worry about MaleShepard's in the potential upcoming Hollywood movie of Mass Effect. It may not be canon, but we still don't want him to be portrayed badly or incorrectly.
Honestly, I think others care more about this than I do. I was slightly disgruntled at the direction this seemed to be taking on facebook and am only responding now to end the conversation. I certainly don't mind continuing to converse, so as long as it remains civil, which I know may be hard for some people. In any case, I may also take a long nap after the day I've had.
EDIT: If you do wish to continue a longer conversation, you may want to PM me as it would seem more appropriate and I do not want to clutter the threads if it will be just a conversation between two people.

Ah, I see. I agree that using anecdotes is a no-no. However, perhaps you dismissed my comments out-of-hand too quickly? That was not my reasoning and I did not jump to conclusions. I thoroughly read through the comments and saw an unappealing pattern and followed it up with a hypothesis. Please refer to my previous posts to garner more details. To provide a brief synopsis, if the vast majority--and I do mean the majority and not any outliers or the minority like yourself--picked #5 because they believed it best represented Shepard's personality and strength--and not the primary and rudimentary reason that "[Shepard's] hot [or] sexy," then I would be quite content despite her non-regulation hair in her face.

It's not even long blonde hair, it's shoulder length which is military regulation for females in the armed forces, and it's even cropped so it doesn't get in her vision. As long as she keeps it pinned/pulled back I don't see how its unbelievable at all.. Oh and news flash, they were talking about finding the cure for aging in a baby born today's lifetime. It's no stretch of the imagination that says they can't have some optional vitamins or lotions to prevent noticeable skin aging for those that care.
Maybe I'm immature a little, but as a female gamer in my early 20's, I relate more to someone of my age, and I'm happy they decided to go with a look that doesn't look like she's about to retire.

I completely fail to see how any of these shepards look no older than 16 and how number five is a 'blonde bimbo.' Do you people even realize what you're saying? Does someone liking a certain look make them a 'bimbo' at all? What the flitter is wrong with having blonde hair (though I would have preferred the style as dark brown/black) ?

When the differences between the pics are so superficial (mostly just a different hair style), I think it's pretty unreasonable to expect people to comment on her strength or personality given neither depend much on how you wear your hair...Plus it's a video game so you have to be a little less of a stickler for regs apparently (Miranda, new AshBlackveldt wrote...

I cannot believe you used a conversation about a cure for aging as a source lol. And news flash...Shepard's 31. Maybe the gamers who are in their early 30s relate more to someone in that age group as well. I don't see how 31 would look like she's close to retirement at all. And in the picture, the blond shep isn't pulling her hair back, so we don't know that. She may have her hair down, period. which is not regulation. But I think you're grasping at straws when we know why they chose a younger-looking female model. It doesn't take a rocket scientist.

Anyway, what I meant is that I was hoping for a sharper, perhaps slightly more masculine face. Less Audrey Hepburn, more Sigourney Weaver.
Granted I'm sure she'll still be incredibly kickass and I can customize the face anyway.
