Keeping it simple: the default appearance doesn't matter to me as long as the characterization and writing is good. Whether it's BioWare's great track record or simply their inability to share more Mass Effect 3 details at this time, they haven't let me down yet.

Good I hope the voting isn't over.  But I did see the video on BioWare pulse from Saturday and the crowd seemed to really like #5 which is the only one I didn't like.

Argh, but she looks too young! I want a tough, hardened b*tch, not this teenage whippersnapper.

They all look as old as my wife and she is 37.

I don't mind it, it just looks a bit odd when you compare her to sheploo who looks old enough to be her dad. Maybe the stress just really got to him.

True, but that picture has him pretty scarred up, its also based on a real person who is well into his forties rather then Shep who is suppose to be early thirties.

That picture of Shepard isn't really close to what he looks like in game.

That's actually true.  First time I saw that ME3 art I thought:  "Did Shepard magically turn 40?"

Looks like he has grey hair too.

I think people are also forgetting male Shepard in game did not look like that picture either. He looked much younger. As for the older preset FemShep she also looks as young as all the images shown as choices in game and certainly looked younger in game than male Shepard.

~Edit I see 1136 beat me to it..

Shep didnt but they guy they take picture of for the box art hit 40 three years ago.  Men also generally look older then women of the same age post 30, with the exception of sun worshipers.  You can attribute it to what you want, I think it has to do with lifestyle and a larger percent performing manual labor at their jobs. There is also the fact men generally make no effort to reduce the effect of aging or conceal it.

Getting off the subject here, but we should have a vote like this for Tali's unmasked face.

I completely fail to see how any of these shepards look no older than 16 and how number five is a 'blonde bimbo.' Do you people even realize what you're saying? Does someone liking a certain look make them a 'bimbo' at all? What the flitter is wrong with having blonde hair (though I would have preferred the style as dark brown/black) ?

She just has a very round, youthful, feminine face.  It's not the face I picture when I hear Hale's voice or imagine her headbutting a krogan.  I'm not saying it couldn't work, but it's the kind of face I see a lot in videogames.  I was hoping for something more distinct/unique.  Anyway, my summer job's at a liquor store, and if any of those FemSheps walked in, I'd be asking for ID.  Big eyes, ample baby fat, no wrinkles?  Come on, now, who comes out of saving the galaxy twice looking ready for their photoshoot with Vanity Fair?

BTW, blonde hair is awesome, and she doesn't look derpy enough to be a bimbo.  Unlike Sheploo.

It's not even long blonde hair, it's shoulder length which is military regulation for females in the armed forces, and it's even cropped so it doesn't get in her vision. As long as she keeps it pinned/pulled back I don't see how its unbelievable at all.. Oh and news flash, they were talking about finding the cure for aging in a baby born today's lifetime. It's no stretch of the imagination that says they can't have some optional vitamins or lotions to prevent noticeable skin aging for those that care.

"I can screw a turian without dying horribly, kill a thresher maw with my bare hands, and come back from the dead after being spaced/burned up/frozen for weeks, but ooohh, I MUST do something about these awful, awful frown lines!"

Granted, you can roleplay a FemShep that's meticulous with her appearance or just naturally gorgeous/youthful-looking, but what's wrong with not being afraid to show your age?  Or looking older than you are?  Or NOT being a fashion model?  What's wrong with the dozens of other kinds of beauty?  Why so... generic?  Seriously, the leading ladies of Mass Effect all have very unique faces, ones that still manage to be very attractive even if they have unconventional features (man-jaws, sharp noses, no hair/eyebrows, a goddamn bucket for a head, etc).  Why should Shep be any different?

Maybe I'm immature a little, but as a female gamer in my early 20's, I relate more to someone of my age, and I'm happy they decided to go with a look that doesn't look like she's about to retire.

Okay, how does "older and less generic" equal "about to retire?"  I am also a female gamer in my early 20's, and I happen to like unique and memorable faces better than traditionally attractive ones.  I'm not vouching for making her some ugly old hag (hell, I'm guilty of tweaking my Sheps' faces for hours to get him/her just right), but there should be something about her that makes you go "hey, it's Shepard!" other than the fact that she's wearing the N7 armor and is much higher res than a custom one.  This just looks like they just tried to make a pretty face.

Nothing wrong with a FemShep that's cute as a button, but it should be the kind of button you find in an old drawer somewhere that is completely different from every single button you've ever seen.

And yeah, I wouldn't mind something that looked more like she'd been in the military for over ten years, thank you very much.

Noticed the same thing myself. i think most assume #5 won already by the number of votes alone. i've yet to see anyone post anything from Bioware saying the voting has ended:huh:

From these designs, I have to say that the first two are my favorite.
But I also really liked that the default femShep from the first two games was a redhead.
No. 5 is nice, but I'd rather Bioware stuck with the ginger hair.

Sherpard is only early 30's. In 150+ years time people in their 40's will look like that. The more logical complaint would be the recessive blonde genes will quite possibly fade away through interacial reproduction. At any rate, natural blondes would be extremely rare in 150 years time.

What I don't understand is, why can't someone with blonde hair and blue eyes be as iconic as Commander Shepard?

I find that's the great thing I found with Hale's voice.  No matter what ethnicity or look I gave my Femshep, it still fit the character perfectly.

Edit:

I would totally agree.  However, with genetic engineering you could give any child whatever hair colour you choose.  Hey, you could even give them glow in the dark hair (I think "unnatural" modifications are banned by Citadel law in ME though).
