She just has a very round, youthful, feminine face.  It's not the face I picture when I hear Hale's voice or imagine her headbutting a krogan.  I'm not saying it couldn't work, but it's the kind of face I see a lot in videogames.  I was hoping for something more distinct/unique.  Anyway, my summer job's at a liquor store, and if any of those FemSheps walked in, I'd be asking for ID.  Big eyes, ample baby fat, no wrinkles?  Come on, now, who comes out of saving the galaxy twice looking ready for their photoshoot with Vanity Fair?

Why do I keep doing this?

Big eyes...right. Even though they're really no bigger than any other option in ME1 or 2...

Ample baby fat? Are you on drugs?

And the wrinkles...

HEY EVERYONE. YOU DON'T GET TO SAY THAT A 30 YEAR OLD FEMALE SPACE MARINE NEEDS TO HAVE WRINKLES TO BE BELIEVABLE.

It is quite hilarious to see people dismiss other people's choices as displays of shallowness. "They just chose her because she's pretty!"

As if that is all different from what you're doing? We are all gauging which design visually appeals to us most. Visual appeal is the only way to judge the designs since the content we're judging is solely of a visual nature. They're just combinations of hairstyle, haircolor, and faces.

Just because your visual preference isn't a certain type of attractiveness doesn't mean your choice is any less 'shallow', you're still judging by looks just like everyone else.

Exactly.  If people "truly" want a less attractive or older Femshep, make one with the character creation tools.  It's not like Bioware's saying: "Everyone must play default Femshep now."

I was hoping for a high-res version of the current default femshep :(...oh well. Still going to stick with her.

Moreso because you could say that no matter which Femshep was in the lead.

I find that's the great thing I found with Hale's voice.  No matter what ethnicity or look I gave my Femshep, it still fit the character perfectly.

You know, I think my problem here is that I've formulated a very solid impression of who FemShep is as a person from my own gaming experience and never really considered that other players or a dev team might reach a different conclusion.

Oh, God.  I'm one of those fans.

Anyway, I'll get used to the default FemShep eventually.  As of now, though, I'm going to b*tch about it since I have nothing better to do.

Why isn't there an option to keep the original Female Shepard?

There is, Casey confirmed old default Jane will be still available to use in ME3.

Just imagine her with full renegade scars and glowing red eyes hidden behind that hair, now there is the savior of the galaxy who strikes fear into her foes with a single glance

Because there's not.  Seriously: how would anyone here know the answer to that? Not like we were in on the meetings where they selected the options. In any case, she'll still be a preset in the character creator.

I figured as much. This was just who is going to be on the CE box/FemShep trailer and other marketing in general.

Gits and shiggles.

They looked pretty big to me, but thanks to my sh*tty internet connection I can't really download the full-sized ones and investigate more closely.

Ample baby fat? Are you on drugs?

I was referring to the smoothness of the features.

As for the drugs part... possibly.

And the wrinkles...

Yes.  The wrinkles.  Not even babies have faces that smooth.

ANY face needs to have creases or wrinkles of some sort to be believeable.  Except when you have a perfectly flat expression or lots of Botox.  Seriously, put on a super-serious war face and look in a mirror.

Do it.

Right now.

1. You need to either feel someone's skin or go to the doctor and get those lumps cut off your face. People have smooth skin for the most part, and it'd definitely be noticeable if she had baby fat. Baby fat is almost always noticeably different from...no baby fat.

2. Is it really so damn hard to suspend your disbelief that she could look like this in the FUTURE?! Aren't there harder things to believe in this series that you suspend disbelief for?

3. You don't know what she will look like in game. If her face is highly detailed, she might very well have some wrinkles.

Come on people...just use common sense.

I rather adore the notion of the stereotypical pretty blonde being someone as awesome and bad-ass as FemShep.  It's a wonderful subversion in my opinion, reminiscent of Buffy or Starbuck.  Plus, her hair really isn't that long, it's just past her jaw, not even shoulder length.  Acording to this website, a military woman's hair "should be neat and
not extend below the collar".  Her hair looks a bit mussed, but otherwise she's fine.

Also, slightly off-topic, it seems a bit odd to me that blonde hair has become so rare in the Mass Effect-verse.  It doesn't seem especially likely that simple breeding would result in the blonde gene declining so severely 150 years down the line.  I'm not all that familiar with the lore, did they ever offer an explanation for why that happened beyond it being a recessive gene?  Cause if that's the case there should be a lot fewer red heads as well.

Y U NO LIKE MY LUMPY FACE?!!

Just kidding.  Anyway, what I meant is that she didn't seem to have a very defined or visible bone structure underneath.  Therefore, her face is soft and squishy.  Like a baby.  You know... baby fat?

Then again, I can't exactly zoom in without waiting for three hours for it to load at the moment.  Maybe you can see something I can't.

2. Is it really so damn hard to suspend your disbelief that she could look like this in the FUTURE?! Aren't there harder things to believe in this series that you suspend disbelief for?

We already have a race of hot blue chicks.  We don't need all our women to look like airbrushed supermodles, too.  Not saying it wouldn't be fun, but it gets kind of boring after a while.

Like I said before, I'm not saying make her ugly, but... unique.  Make her unique.  Give her the kind of beauty that's all her own and not just Generic Space Babe.  And there aren't that many older-looking females in games in general.

3. You don't know what she will look like in game. If her face is highly detailed, she might very well have some wrinkles.

Cover/promotional art is usually more detailed than what's in the game.

Come on people...just use common sense.

No.  You called my face lumpy.  I'm all rage now.  And on drugs.

Basically the writers decided to use the (completely false) theory that in the future through breeding the blonde hair gene will have almost vanished completely, its not true at all and its based on a misinterpretation of recessiveness in genetics

It should be noted that not every military in the world has the same regs on grooming.

Yes, you are right.  That was just a convinient example of what some military grooming regultions are like.  However, given that what you've said is true, I don't understand why some people are all "It's impractical and would be against military regulation!"

Apparently not Alliance Military regulation.
