I don't think she looks that young in the original. I'm 27 and I would say my face is similar in texture/tone to that. In the edit, she looks like she's in her mid to late 30's and looks more worn and tired (which is really the more appropriate look considering what she's been through) I don't think she needs wrinkles in her mid to late 20's. I have fine lines around my eyes. That's it.
People age differently, so neither of the options are strictly speaking wrong. It seems, however, that quite a few of us would like to see some signs of the past not-so-easy years in Shepard's face, if just for the sake of variety among all the near-perfect video game characters. Also, it makes the player feel that we've actually been through something. I personally like the edited version, but the wrinkles or the lack of them are not the main issue for me regarding the FemShep looks.
I don't know how old she should be. I've seen both late 20's and early 30's in these threads. If she's supposed to look like she's in her 30's, then yes, I think the edited version is more accurate. If not, then I think the original with a bit more 'wear' would be better.

Why are you people complaining about how old she looks now? For heavens sake, it's the 22nd century, 33 is probably the new 18. ._.

According to Mass Effect Wiki Timeline, Shepard is born 2154, ME1 happens 2183 and ME2 in 2185. Admittedly, I'm a little hazy on how long after ME2 is ME3 supposed to happen.DuckSoup wrote...

Sure, they're meant to, according to the lore, except they never showed this in the games. Joker, Ashley, Jack, Jacob are all younger than Shepard. Seems a bit jarring to suddenly apply this to Shepard, of all the characters we see, especially given her job.
EDIT: Kaidan is a 2/3 years older

@Ducks, it's very subjective, huh?I don't see a single fine line on the original; I do on the edit, and they only appear to be fine lines. Anyway, like I said, this is why I think they should give us the option of 2 textures.
Yes, it is subjective.
They may well give us the option to change complexion, like we've seen in other games, so that the player can make their character look slightly more worn/older and so on.
The original looks fine to me.

I've heard that ME3 happens around twelve month after ME2.
Chronological Shepard must be arround 32 years in ME3!
But remember Shepard is the first human in the ME-Universe who was dead for two years and was rebuilt! Maybe Shepard's biological age is arround 29 or 30 years, maybe he/she doesn't age like normal humans anymore. Perhaps the implants in Shepard's body improve the replacement of his/her somatic cells, so that Shepard always looks around the age of 20-30.

If it's to do with the Lazarus project, which I could believe would make her look closer to a teenager, then I'd have to wonder why it only happens to this version of Shepard :/. Which I could do I suppose, it would just make this Shepard more realistic/canon than the others - plus I could justify an older looking Shep in ME1.

And do yourself a favor, don't search for logic in decessions about design. The best excuse would be that a "wizard did it".

Cos if we're that bothered about the default face surely we'd make one of our own (yes, I know the detail is always somewhat noticeably diminished, but if it REALLY bothers you that much...you know you're going to do something about it...)
I've got a fem Shep myself (I have three different chars, 2 males and 1 female - but I consider her my 'proper' alt playthrough), and I've carried her over the two games with the intention of carrying her into the third game, and she's got a custom face - and as such, the level of immersion is deeper for me, and so, in turn is the experience ...
I don't know about you (but I presume it's pretty similar), but a big reason why I play Bioware rpgs is for the sense of a uniquely personal experience relative to myself (that definition isn't just limited to placing an avatar of yourself within the fictional world, but also being able to create your own characters within said world, and etch out their own story - like I did for my fem Shep).
what I'm essentially trying to get at, is that in the long run, it won't really matter that much to us anyway, right?
anyway, just my two cents, so to speak :innocent:

At the end of day, even though the most cliche/derivative (Samus anyone? lol) and impractical-looking version was chosen, it doesn't really matter for our own experiences, right (it only affects the special edition's art)?

Very true. And I suppose if people want this Shep to look older, they could always go into texmod and photoshop the texture - I can't imagine it being that hard.

6 especially cuts a striking pose. I'm having trouble placing her ethnic background. I'm wanting to say something slavic, maybe russian, but she's a bit dark skinned for that I think.

you have jinxed it now. Never say the " how hard can it be" sentence, haha.
I just hope that we will be able to create a shep with as much detail as shown here.

Personally, I like the idea that a TON of people are really mixed in the future.
For example, Captain Anderson has Native American features in him, is outwardly appearing Black/African American, and yet, he was born in London, England.
That actually doesn't make sense, being from Earth. The Earthborns would exhibit greater racial diversity, as they probably tend to live within their own nations and marry in their own cultures. The colonials, many of whom just want to get away from all that, are likely to be very mixed up. Eventually, I imagine most colonials will be a melange of all races.

They are there, but just a bit tough to make out since she's a bit pale compared to Sheploo. Also there's the hair covering some of it.
