Does anyone else feel a bit punished for not using the Sheploo face?

As stated in the title, has anybody else felt like they were a bit punished for not using the Mark Vanderloo face, and instead making their own custom MaleShep face? I certainly did.

  • Very limited facial structure customization. No matter what you do, it never comes out looking  right. There is always some point in time where the light/shadows makes you look like an axe murderer, or you go cross-eyed. I'm talking about actually making a custom MaleShep without a save editor.

  • Poor resolution facial textures/detail, even on the PC (Go look at the Sheploo face, then back at a custom face)

  • Extremely limited hair choices. Some of them look a thousand times better in ME1 than they did in ME2 (Take a good, hard, look at the "formal spikes" style in ME1 [Especially the back] then go look at the same style in ME2, it has clipping, and what's up with the back? ) I'm not saying Shepard should have long, flowing Fabio hair, he's a soldier. However, at least fix up the ones we have!

  • You customize the mouth, you run the risk of getting janky teeth.

These are just some of the things I could think of. Anyone else?

This. I'd feel more punished by using the Sheploo face.

Not as much care is allowed to go into custom Shepard... but I still prefer my Shep over Sheploo... hands down.

You mean no problem besides animations based on male Shepard, right?

I don't know that "punished" is the right word for it. I just suck at character creators and my Shepard always come out looking like a wax sculpture that sat out in the sun too long, after being run over by a truck.

I strongly prefer my custom face over Sheploo. I'm sorry if I gave the opposite impression..

IMO, FemSheps don't really seem to have a problem makinga good looking custom face, though.

Try to get better. It took me 30 minutes to make a good-looking Shep. Fem-Sheps are easier since they have decent looking presets.

By punished, I mean it's painfully obvious how little effort/care was given, and how it kinda seems to be pushing the Sheploo face. As for the "wax sculpture" part...that's just part of having a custom MaleShep.

I always use Sheploo face. Works perfectly for me. :D I don't like hardly any custom faces, Sheploo has the perfect mood for me. I got attached to him my first run through ME.

Punished? That sounds harsh. I for one prefer the Sheploo face. But I don't think custom is that bad. I only have one custom now that I think about it compared to my 4 Sheploo's ...

Same here.  My few attempts at making custom faces resulted in monstrosities that could shatter mirrors at fifty feet.

Wish my Xbox didn't decide to RRoD on me recently. I'd go see how close I could get to making a Shopord.

Well, I can intellectually understand what you're saying, but I wish it were true for me. Even in games regarded as having a robust character creator (e.g. Saint's Row 2) my characters come out looking like mutant Mr. Potatoheads. I just have no eye for proportion and symmetry in a human face, I guess. Well I do, I mean I can recognize good looking people, I just can't recreate them by hand.

I was thinking the same thing? Was harsh. It's more that the devs got a little lazy with the customs? They spent a lot of effort on Mark Vanderloo and building him in pixels to make Sheploo, and it paid off.:wub::wub:

I love my maleshep, however I haven't seen many others I like nor have I been able to make another I really like. I also don't really like sheploo. About 60-70% of my playtroughs are femshep, mostly because of this.

I guess I do OK with my attempts.

This is one of mine from ME1, and it was not too bad in ME2 with the animations, mostly eye-lid flutter and neck peeking through the armor.

And don't mind the date, I have an old camera that was reset when I took the pic. =]

Yeah lol. I suck at customizing. Spend like 3 hours tying to get the right face, narrow it down to like 4 faces, cant decide, then I re-visit Sheploo, and notice hw has more detail and is just overall more studly then the ones I made. So I just say screw it. So I just go default. Which I'm ok with. Sheploo has the military face I want anyway.

I prefer my 4 custom Sheps. A couple of them look a little dorky, and no one is begging me for any of their face codes, but they look like real people and not some model, which is a plus in my book.

Yeah custom shepards are hard to make that are decent imo. The only thing I don't like about sheploo is eye color. If I could change that to match mine (brown) I would be perfectly fine with sheploo. I use sheploo only because I suck at creating shepards.

That's cute:) I was curious how long it was going to be before someone made the "hurr durr get bettar" comment. By the way, that site went down quite a while ago.
