Does anyone else feel a bit punished for not using the Sheploo face?

I only have one male Shepard (the rest of my Shepard's are female), but I think I came out with a decent looking one. I just had to mod his hair :(

Custom Male Shepard's just need better presets and stuff. They can be kind of terrifying to look at.

I use default male most of the times.
I sometimes customize the female one, but use default for her as well a lot.

En contraire, Sheploo should feel punished for not using my custom Shepards' faces ...

It took me 3 years to create a reasonable (IMO) FemShep.  Couldn't create one for ME1 or ME2, until I spent hours upon hours changing all the settings tick by tick:

Now for Sheploo, the face and personality just looks perfect to me.  Some of what you are complaining about OP (such as lack of animations etc.) I just do not see on the Custom MaleSheps that I have seen.  And some have been absolutely terrific.  I will say though, that I would like the custom models to have more umph in texture quality.

Sometimes, it's just a lot harder to make something with what Male Shepard is given if you don't go default. But I play mostly as a fem!Shep, so it never bothers me that much.

I don't know that "punished" is the right word for it. I just suck at character creators and my Shepard always come out looking like a wax sculpture that sat out in the sun too long, after being run over by a truck.

By punished, I mean it's painfully obvious how little effort/care was given, and how it kinda seems to be pushing the Sheploo face. As for the "wax sculpture" part...that's just part of having a custom MaleShep.

Why is that whenever people don't get some feature they want in the game, they imagine Bioware employees laughing maniacally while twirling their evil mustaches, and conspiring against them.

The Bioware devs weren't trying to 'punish' people for not choosing the default face, or trying to force people to use the default. If that were the case you wouldn't have been given an option to customize your character's face in the first place. The Sheploo face looks more real than player created ones because unlike the player created faces it was modelled on a real person.

I feel punished by going custom since i no longer get to see more of Sheploo's horrifying facial expressions.

Sheploo? Who is this? I thought his name was Richard Shepard.

Edit: I mean, this guy.

I actually prefer my custom over the Sheploo face, but I wish custom would have better beards.

I only have a minor complaint with custom faces. In the creator my face looks like this -_- but when I actually get in game some of my faces end up looking like this \\ _ / more often than not on my femsheps especially. I wouldn't be opposed to a "test cutscene" option in the creator and I'll take my default Shep's face over Sheploo anytime. Its minor like I said and I'll just have to spend more time tweaking eye shapes

No, because most of my created MaleShep's actually look better than Sheploo. However, I do admit that my first Shep is Sheploo.

The real problem comes down to ****ty face textures. If we got to use the same skin as Sheploo, suddenly the custom Sheps would look less like ass.

In ME2 i think the customs are really bad, but ME1 imo were better cuz my custom Shepard looks pretty good, i mean sometimes in bad lighting he looks unattractive, but 90% he's looking good.

I will say this though im upset i can't have Sheploo's hairstyle cuz it's the SAME no joke SAME exact hairstyle i had when i was 13-15 and i didn't even know about mass effect at the time. plus after i cut down my afro im going for it again. yeah :)

After much testing i found that any custom shepard look bad in certain scenes or lightning, it is impossible to make a shepard that looks good in every scene (even sheploo fails at that). What i settled for is a custom shepard that looks good most of the time even if sometimes he looks odd.

Im saying thats the problem cuz my Shep be looking sexy, but then boom bad lighting and certain scenes and i gurantee you that miranda would dump him.

Have you seen MIRANDA in some bad lighting?

So I wouldn't feel bad.

Agree with you there about the beards.  Hopefully, in ME3 we get some more variety.  Shep don't got no time to shave - he's got too much Reaper ass to kick! :P

That's disturbing and funny.  Especially since it's Miranda and her supposed genetically engineer perfect looks...

Poor resolution facial textures/detail, even on the PC (Go look at the Sheploo face, then back at a custom face)

Only about that a bit. But I suppose it's a problem only for imported characters?
Other points depend on you, I've made three Sheps and they look fine. Only I find them fine but still.

I've spent hours making one, and got a decent looking one. problem is, the voice doesn't seem to fit them custom sheps like it does for the main one. i guess that's because I've done about 5 playthroughs with sheploo on ME1 and ME2, and gotten used to it : /.

I have several femsheps who all look pretty good, and vary in skin tones and hair, using just the out-of-the-box creator. (I don't use mods.) The femshep voice acting is so good and the expressions are pretty amazing, so I actually completed a couple of different playthroughs on femshep.

Maleshep, however, I can't get a good handle on. I've made a couple who look halfway decent. The best ones look about 22 years old, for some reason (snub nose, wider jaw, buzz cut) or much older (more grizzled looking features, with heavier texture).

Unfortunately, the maleshep voice doesn't really go with any of the versions I created. So I never get past boarding the Normandy on any of the malesheps. Sigh.

Maybe if there was a younger voice? or an older one for the grizzled versions of custom maleshep?

Punished? No. praying that bioware smooths out the rough edges so my Russian looking soldier doesn't look like a monkey who has a massive overbite? Yes.
