Does anyone else feel a bit punished for not using the Sheploo face?

I always use Sheploo face. Works perfectly for me. :D I don't like hardly any custom faces, Sheploo has the perfect mood for me. I got attached to him my first run through ME.

Not at all. The random bad lighting places or where you go strangely crosseyed, or my favorite-when it appears inappropriate things have recently taken place in your pants, they're part of the charm for me.

Nope, I prefer my own James Bond lookalike.

It takes a lot of doing to get something decent out of ME's crappy character creator. I'm very happy with the face I made after much trial and error.

Speaking of Sheploo, I wish they'd used the original bald guy from the early days before ME1 as the default...that face actually matched up with the voice.

My manshep looks like a mix between Jarome Iginla and the black Rescue Hero. With a touch of "hello ladies, look at your man, now back to me" and "Ima take my talents to South Beach". Perhaps not coincidentally, he is about 75% paragon and 25% renegade.

He gets the renegade from LeBron.

But not rings.

I for the life of me can't get a good looking custom Shepard, femshep or manshep, so I just use the defaults, customs just look wierd..

Punished?  No, not really.  That would imply that something negative is being forced on us as a result of not using Sheploo.  It's all opinion really.  One man's trash and all that.

The easiest way to get a decent face in any game I've played with a face creator is to find a preset that looks pretty close to what you want, then tweak it.  I usually suck when trying to alter facial structure, and will usually only slightly tweak stuff like cheekbones or mouth height from the preset.  But I will alter stuff like skin tone, hairstyle, hair color, scars, and so on.  The result is a pretty good looking character.  I almost always work off of the same preset for Shepard (since I almost exclusively play male), but can make decidedly different characters with it as a base.

I initially designed a custom Shepard, but after the Eden Prime mission when Shepard wakes up in the Normandy infirmary, I thought the lighting and the overall quality of the face was far better on Sheploo compared to my custom Shepard.

So Sheploo will always be the Shepard I use, any other Shepard is just imitating.

I have NEVER used the Sheploo face. With some work every one of my custom faces has satisfied me. In addition to that I tend to play as a woman more often than not. Mark Meer's voice acting as Shepard... now there's a punishment!! :D

No. I always prefer custom made faces over default faces, because it's a more personal game experience.

I play default on both genders. All the custom characters I've made tend to look really ugly or the voice doesn't fit them (easier in da:o with the multiple voices).

Always custom here, I want to be able to feel like they're my particular Shep and not a generic one.

It takes some time to get them just right though.

Every now and then I get the urge to play as MShep and experience the story in a different way and I always give up because I can't design a face isn't ugly or creepy or looks good in anyway outside the lighting of the CC. I've seen ones I thought looked cool so I know it can be done I just lack the knack for it. I think nifty textures like Sheploo's would definately help though.

Now my FShep on the other hand... Love her madly.  Don't know why 'cause it's not like we get any extra textures or anything but it seems to me like it's a lot easier to make good looking FSheps.
