It's been confirmed. He says himself in his manifesto that he actually played Dragon Age 2. He beat Origins too, and said it was brilliant. He likely beat Awakenings as well. Looks like this Jim Brogan guy wasn't too far off when he said there was eerie similaraties. New article is up too with his quotes and such. Startin' to get a bit creepy how many coincedences have lined up like this.

It's still seriously not funny. Yeah he played other games, but for those of us who really loved DA2 it's kind of upsetting if only on principle. It might be an irrational feeling, but there it is.

The article really doesn't say videogames are evil or make you do things. But considering he is a mentally ill man, I'm starting to think its possible that he could've in fact drawn inspiration considering he played it during his planning. I was looking through his manifesto and he really only mentions the Dragon Age games, WoW, and Call of Duty. And he focuses mostly on Dragon Age. I love the game too, but this is some weird stuff. I don't think this was ever meant to be a joke.

But as you said...HE IS A MENTALLY ILL MAN.  Anders is a very common name in that part of the world so its a coincidence.

The majority of people will blame videogames when the man was mentally ill. There could be calls for bans or boycotts.

Censorship is NOT the issue.

OP wasn't suggesting censorship. But you're probably just making a generalized statement?

That's not funny either. I killed him on my first PT also, but you're making the two equivalent, which they absolutely are not. Don't spread ignorance.

Ugh...people trying to attach a political spin on a crazy person's actions sickens me. It should sicken all people who try to use this to promote a political agenda instead of using honest, open debate over singular issues.

known right wing? you've got to be kidding me...I don't see any evidence to that.

I read the article. Where was the OP trying to say video games to blame? he was stating taht he made the bombs while he played the exact game, looks like him, possibly tailored himself to look like him. i heard that he took a year off of work just to play WoW. mentions he loves RPGs the most (role playing games)...why is it such a stretch that he wouldn't be role playing in real life. psychos do that, not videogames.

This entire thread is hilariously impertinent. Video games have been blamed for this sort of lunacy plenty of times. It's BS and always will be.

Goodness. I get tired of the finger pointing. Some gamers blame his Christianity, Some Christians blame his gaming. It's absurd!

I don't think it was either. I think he was messed up in the head. I think he was thoroughly depraved, morally broken. To compare him to a freedom fighter in a video game or every person's grandma who has ever gone to church is absurd for any of us. Breivik was a sick man, THAT is why he did it.

Me? Strong gamer, even Stronger Christian. (gasp!) Even traditional/fundamentalist by most standards. Hey, I even think the modern church is pretty messed up, I hear Breivik thought that! Oh, and I loved Anders in DA2. Might as well just lock me up and give me a labotomy, now. I'm obviously dangerous!

Oh, wait. Except I am not going to MURDER anybody...

We're always looking for an excuse for people's crimes -- anything but to accept that maybe the man was, you know, messed up? Either way, that article really irked me off. The crime in Norway was a serious thing and needs to be taken more seriously than this. DA2 isn't going to motivate anyone to KILL people, madness will.

I don't think any sane person is blaming either video games or his Christianity. It's his political extremism.

Hey ******, Hitler probably played with plastic swords, but it didnt cause him to be a grade A power made ****.

God I hate idiots like you, get off the internet you incompetent excuse for a human being. You do not understand causation whatsoever do you? My name is Mario IRL, I also play Super Mario games, I also eat mushrooms. I dont eat mushrooms because I played Super Mario.

Just like how 99.9% of people in the US who commit murder own a pair of shoes, dosen't mean shoes are the cause of the murder. I actualy wrote a 20k word essay on video game violence but i do not wish to share such nuanced arguments with a peasent like yourself, who lacks the decorum and intellect of a wild bullock.

I think we'd better ban all plastic swords, just to be on the safe side.

...And Norwegians.

I'm pretty sure the attacker also used a toilet. Coincidence or are all the people who use toilets potential serial killers? I see absolutely no point in this thread.

I don't believe that playing Dragon Age II inspired him to do this.  This was something he'd obviously been planning for a long time.  BioWare is completely blameless and everything surrounding Anders is pure coincidence.

Now, do I think that a certain part of the game let him forfill a sick fantasy of his?  Yes.  I absolutely believe that.

And that pisses me off to no end.

I've played the God of War series, the Mortal Kombat series, the Call of Duty series, the Dragon Age series, Ghost in the Shell, The Godfather video game, and many other games that involve killing people.

I haven't killed anyone.

A mentally ill man is at fault, not the games themselves. But I just know that won't stop the idiots in this world from blaming the game and calling for it to be taken off the shelf.

The name "Anders" is just the Scandinavian version of the name Andrew in English, or Andreas in Greek.

I don't even see a resemblance between the two.

EDIT: anyone else notice how the article says the group controlling the mages is called "The Chant of Light", and controls the Chantry and the Templars? I understand what they meant though, but I found it funny
