Is Bioware taking to much inspiration from cliche shooters for ME3?

But I'm not sure QTE is the right term for the sliding. It's more applicable to interrupts.

Hmmm....I have heard "quicktime Event" used to describe interrupts so many times in the past few years though.
But you are right, Interrupt is a much better way of saying it. You should go tell that to Youtube video game reviewers.

Back on topic.

Well, according to the Wikipedia definition of QTE it's functionally identical to the ME2 interrupt mechanism, except that failing to make an interrup doesn't have negative consequences.

Err, QTEs are the God of War style events where you have to hit combinations of buttons in a timed "Simon Says..." sequence which correlates to on-screen cinematic action. God of War uses them extensively, but they weren't the first. Heavy Rain also uses the same/similar mechanisms for interacting with the game world.

Interrupts and this "sliding" business are not QTE. Bioware have been calling such events as the sliding "redirects" as they redirect the flow of the gameplay, and the player's expectations of said flow.

Now if during that sliding sequence you had to hit buttons or directions on the controller in order to make Shepard shift his/her weight around to dodge bits of shrapnel and avoid injury, and then stick the landing like a boss, that would make the sequence a QTE.

Bioware made ME.
EA made ME2.

Which one is the more valid?

We can do this another way.

Rowling wrote Harry Potter.
Multiple directors filmed Harry Potter.

Which one is more valid?

You don't get it both ways.

This comparison is incoherent. A real comparison would be if Rowling sold the Harry Potter IP to someone else, and then that person had her write a new Harry Potter novel. The same team designed ME2 - but the IP switched hands when Bioware became a subsidiary of EA.

Anyway, you're really wrong about Bioware ever working on what you consider RPGs. They were a major player in the trend away from what you think RPGs are. Just look at BG II to NWN (removing the PC's party), NWN to KoTOR (simplified mechanics & cinematic story along with the inability to kill NPCs, etc), and KoTOR to JE/ME.

Are you claiming that the development team is the same? That there haven't been changes to the composition of the team of devs/writers?

Cause if you are making that claim, you would be in error.

Is the development team entirely an EA team without any prior experience on ME1? Is any non-Bioware talent (as in, talent that was part of Bioware Edmonton at the time of ME1) working in any lead development position on ME2?

Mac Walters was with Bioware since JE. All of the ME1 writers (except Mike Laidlaw) worked on ME2. Casey Hudson is project director of ME1-ME3.

As for KotOR1/2 epic-ness, I felt that ME1 was INFINITELY more epic than either of those. I mean for god's sake, anyone who wasn't super-pumped by the whole driving the Mako through the relay, then "We're going outside.", just doesn't have any, I dunno, fun-soul or something. Nothing in KotOR1/2 was that epic. Nothing.

Mako, by virtue of being the Mako and having terrible controls/functionality, removes all possible epic content.

KoTOR2 had the dramatic run through the Star Forge.

That was actualy KotOR 1.

But KotOR 2 did have the battle for Onderon. And the Atris confrontations. Image IPB

It depended on your class. As a Jedi Consular, I remember two-shotting groups with Force Storm/Force Wave. Image IPB

You crazy, foo'!

Seriously though, the Star Forge (in KotOR1, as Divo says) wasn't remotely on-par with the "We're going outside.", it was a just tacky grind by comparison, imho, of course. :)

As for the guy saying "EA made ME2", what gibberish - by that moon-logic, Microsoft made ME1! Anyone saying that seriously needs to finish both ME games and compare the credits.
