Seeing as the last thread was closed, I wanted to make a new one since this is a pretty big incident.

For those of you who don't know:

The 2011 Norway attacks were two terrorist attacks against the government and civilian population, and a political summer camp in Norway on 22 July 2011. The first was a bomb explosion in Regjeringskvartalet, the executive government quarter of Oslo, at 15:22,[6] outside the office of Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg and other government buildings.[7]

The explosion killed seven people and injured several others. The second attack occurred less than two hours later at a youth camp organized by the youth organization (AUF) of the Norwegian Labour Party (AP) at the island of Utøya in Tyrifjorden, Buskerud. At least one armed gunman disguised as a policeman opened fire at the campers, killing at least 85 attendees.[8][9][10]

The police arrested Anders Behring Breivik, a 32-year-old Norwegian man, for the shootings at Utøya[11] and subsequently charged him with both the attacks.[12]

At the risk of being too "political", I won't try and discuss the potential motives and ideology of the suspect, even if I want to. Instead, I will just send my condolensces to the family and friends of the victims and to the nation of Norway as a whole.

Agreed. The motivations do not justify the grief that the survivors and those who remained behind have to endure. Many innocent lives have been lost an many lives have been ruined. :(

Lord forgive me for saying this but I hope the bastard rots. I mean killing 85 kids is just....why? The victims and their families will be in my prayers, I just wish there was more I could do. But I am sorry that someone who claimed to be a Christian did this, and its people like that that give Christians a bad name.

My condolences to Norway as well. What are their views on the death penalty? I assume they don't have one. He should be stuck in a cell and never see the light of day again. A very cold and calculating SOB.

My heart goes out to the families of the victims. It must have been terrible for the parents of the victims at Utoya to get to the hotel where the survivors had taken refuge and realize that they'll never see their children again.

@slimgrin: The Scandinavian countries do not have the death penalty.

Not really, he'll be locked up for life

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Containment is one of the penalties in the Norwegian legal system.
Preventive detention can lead to imprisonment for life, because the
original sentence can be extended for an indefinite number of times. Offenders that a court deemed sane, can be sentenced to custody if there is great danger that the offender might repeat the crime or considered a danger to society.
People who perceived unpredictable in work currently can not be
sentenced custody, but may instead be imposed compulsory mental health
care and compulsory care. Sanction detention is pursuant to "Regulations on the implementation of sanctions custody" § 2, which states: Implementation
of preventive detention to protect society's need for security against
the new serious crime by the detained persons' page.
Within safe limits, the custody judge is given the opportunity to change their behavior and adapt to a life of freedom. Custody can only be used if the person has committed or attempted to commit a crime that has violated our society's fundamental right things, other people's lives, health or freedom . Examples of such crimes can be murder, violence, sexual crimes and intentional fires. In addition, there must be a real danger that they will get to repeat the action he or she is convicted. In ruling on custody, the court shall fix a time frame that usually should not exceed 15 years, and can not exceed 21 years. Following a request from prosecutors, the court nonetheless by court extend the specified limit by up to 5 years. Case for the extension brought before the court no later than three months before the expiry of detention. It should also be made for a minimum period of detention which must not exceed 10 years.
Preventive detention is currently the only means the Norwegian courts
have at their disposal to impose offenders a real life sentence, as
there is no upper limit for such a judicial duration. Custody replaced the previous legal term protection of the amendment 1 January 2002 .
