This problem was posted when DA II was first releaased.  I assumed the patches would corrrect it; however, I am still encountering delays/ slow downs during cut scenes even though I have downloaded the 1.03 patch and am running the nVidia 270.61 drivers as recommended.  My system is an ASUS G72GX with an Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU P8700  @ 2.53GHz, 2533 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 2 Logical Processor(s).  My graphics card is an Nvidia GeForce GTX 260M with 1GB memory and I have 6GB RAM. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 Bit.
All my specs are at or exceed the minimum requirements which makes this very frustrating.  I have run the game in 16:9 and 4:3 variations from 800x 600 on up both in full screen and windowed mode. I have also rebooted my system before starting the game to clear out any background processes and the same thing occurs, about 45 minutes into the game or at the 3rd or 4th major cut scene the game slows dramatically and requires a restart to correct it.

Try turning off the antialiasing and anisotropic filtering. If that doesn't help try using directx 9 instead of 11.

Thanks, both were already set to off in the game settings as well as in the nVidia control panel settings. Will try the Directx 9 now.

Also, check out the pinned thread at the top of the forum regarding the latest nVidia drivers. There are issues with the 275 series beta drivers, and the full (non-beta) drivers don't handle the DX11 well. 270.61 beta seems to work best for this game.

Ooops. Should have read more carefully. >.< That said, re-reading your first post, am I reading correctly that this is the mobile version of the 260GTX? If so, it is actually below the minimum specs (mobile cards aren't supported. They are not equivalent to the same card in a desktop). Turning your graphics settings down a bit might help.

Sami jo, thanks. Yes, its the mobile version. I notched it down and it goes about 45 minutes longer before I start to notice some slowing.

dl a program like Speedfan and monitor your temps of your graphics processor and cpu. It MAY be that your computer is slowing down to prevent you from burning out your system because it can't handle running the higher graphics. The fact that it runs for longer at the reduced graphics really leads me to believe it is heat related and your system is detuning to save itself.

mcsupersport, thanks. I was getting a heat increase. Going to go out and get a cool pad tomorrow to see if that helps.

We have the exact same computer and issue. The only way I've found to prevent all lag is to switch to DX9, which is annoying because when the game first released I could run it maxed out with no issues at all.

I'm currently using the suggested patch, but I'm going to attempt the latest beta to see if the issue is any better. I'll let you know if I can figure anything out.

Also, toying with the NVIDIA control panel helps, alot.

Again, if the issue is overheating, the only solution is improved cooling and lowering graphics.  This game leans heavily on both the CPU and the GPU, and laptops simply don't have the same cooling capacity of desktops even if the hardware was equivalent (which it isn't).  Patches and drivers are not going to reduce the computational load of the game, and repeated overheating can cause permanent damage to your hardware.  The fact that you can no longer run it at the higher settings suggests that you may have already damaged your system.  You are asking more from your system than it is capable of.

It could be, but I doubt it. The mysterious frame rate issues appeared only after installing patches and ASUS specifically designed this series of gaming laptops to withstand higher than average temps. People have reported overclocked speeds of 80c and above. That's obviosuly an extreme case and I would never be comfortable at that temp, but it seems to be somewhat normal for this computer.

In the end, I desperately need a new computer. That's what second jobs are for, right?
