Leliana - DW, high cunning bard
Aveline - tank

Then either:
Wynne - awesome healer
or
Hawke - primal blood mage with heroic aura and heal (yes very similar to Merrill but you can never have too much blood magic and two chain lightnings are better than one)

Of the characters who have already been companions ...

Shale - for tanking, snark and pigeon-crushing.
Nathaniel - for locks, traps and sex appeal.
Finn - for healing and comic relief.
Merrill - for massive damage and adorable blood magery.

I chose Nathaniel for the sake of having four companions from four different sets, but on another day I might pick Sebastian instead. (I mean, Nathaniel has a sexy voice, but that Scottish Starkhaven accent is to die for. On the other hand, Nathaniel hasn't taken a vow of celibacy.) I had a hard time leaving Sigrun out, though.

Much as I love Wynne, I'd really like to see more of Finn, so onto the list he goes.

Well, I'd just go with the 4 strongest heroes, while at the same time making a group that could get along and not try to kill one another from too much in-fighting. So I'd go with...

The Warden (Arcane Warrior + Blood Mage)
Morrigan (Arcane Warrior)
Hawke (Blood Mage + Force Mage)
Zevran (Assassin + Duelist)

Guess it's not really all that creative since I'm just replacing Alistair with Hawke, but w/e... that's my team.
