What's with all the BS about Jacob and Grunt not being available? I would hate to lose Grunt, but Jacob, while wildly unpopular, is still a potential LI. Would suck to not have them around.

I'm not sure this Vega character is replacing anyone exactly. If anything he's sounding more and more like some sort of "Mary Sue" (which is odd considering Shepard should be our Mary Sue) or worse he's going to pull a DA2 Anders or some sort of BS on us.
(I'm going to say it right now. Vega is likely some Cerberus or other nefarious group spy. Just too late to be introducing a new squadmate who brings nothing new to the table.)

Jack has a shotgun and uses a combat power (warp ammo). Also Jacob has been confirmed to not be a party member.

No, just a bit fast conclusions. It was told that "Vega is about survivability", which is exact role of Grunt. And I don't recall seeing two pure tanks in BioWare games, at least recent ones.

The fact that he is stating it as a fact makes it a blatant lie. Also, the fact that Vega was seen using a Widow doesnt make me believe he will be pure "tank". Snipers are about survival as well at least IRL.

That's subject to change. He might use ARs and SMGs when the game comes out.
