Casey Hudson brought up quite an interesting twist that will happen in Mass Effect 3 via the Comic Con Convention this weekend. I quote:

"...You want to know whether squadmates might leave you based on what you're doing in the game? So thats definitely apart of the storyline and its built-in partly through story and partly through your decisions. So without giving anything away, there are times in Mass Effect 3 where characters who are obviously very principled about certain things are looking at a decision that you're about to make and it could create a conflict, it could cause them to not support you anymore and it could cause you to get into mortal conflict with them where you might be forced to kill them. Similarly to things that we've done in previous games with Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 1, where we're putting you in a situation where you might be in conflict with someone who previously was a friend."

ME3 Live Friday July 22 Stream 30:25 - 31:26

So pretty much another Virmire Wrex situation is bound to happen with maybe not one, but multiple squadmates as the story progresses. Who do you think might get into conflict with Shepard? "Principled" characters hmmmm. Obviously it will be around conflicts already going on in the galaxy such as the Quarians and the Geth. [Tali or Legion turning on you?]
The genophage is another issue for example. A repeat argument with Wrex? Or will it be Mordin on the receiving end? With so many squadmates, the possibilities are endless. Im interested in what you all have to say about this.

Discuss. Image IPB

Every story needs a Judas...

As for who? I think ti'll depend entirely on your choices. So pretty much everyone is a potential traitor.

There is actually a thread with the exact same premise on this page. But whats done is done. I think Liara, she is changing becoming darker.

We'll see, of course, but in theory my Shep would betray / sacrifice anyone for Kaidan and maybe for Vega. Batarians, I would sacrifice any or all of them even if it was totally unnecessary, their a race of mean thugs.

I could see Zaeed turning his back on you even IF you convinced him to help the team rather than himself in ME2. He just seems like the "me first" type regardless of how you approach him. It wouldn't surprise me if he left you high and dry in a firefight.

Tali! :o

Joke aside, I think your choices will influence a traitor if this even happens. I wonder even if you finish ME2 with full Paragon if you will still be betrayed...

I can see Jack doing something though. >_>

edit: Just realized a WHOLE day later, that I said "Jake" and not "Jack" My mind must of been elsewhere when I wrote that. :pinched:

Samara seems like the obvious choice, but based on what Hudson said, it could also imply that Tali, Legion and even Wrex are possible betrayers.

Ashley or Kaidan depending on Virmire, Tali, Legion, Wrex, Mordin, and Joker are all possiblities for conflict in my opinion. Samara also, but she wouldn't be a traitor as much as she would be a justicar; Shepard makes a really bad anti-code mistake, Samara is forced to turn against them.

Possibly Jack if you didn't romance her, kept her with her Renegade thinking and kept the Cerberus base? Seems like she'd have a lot of reasons not to trust you period after all that.

I only have one word to describe the absolutely horror that flowed through me when I read this.

...Frick'.

I have a suspicious feeling me and Tali's awesome friendship is gonna end in ME3. D=

Only one I can currently think of that seems reasonable is Tali. It's common knowledge she can get quite heated up about the Geth so anything that might favor the Geth as opposed to the Quarians could tick Tali off. It'd have to be a pretty big decision to turn otherwise loyal Tali against you, however telling on her father in ME2 may be a big step in that direction.

Seems Mordin is actually trying to cure the Krogan now, I doubt we can get another Genophage conflict between Wrex and Mordin because they both seem to be on the same side now.

Samara is a possibility, however even though she lives by her black and white code, I think she knows when to ignore it for a while. Galactic invasion force wiping out everything would be a good reason to stop hunting Shepard for killing 300.000 Batarians methinks...

I could see either Joker, Chakwas (both are Cerberus traitors anyway), Miranda, Jacob and Liara as possible traitors.

Joker and Chakwas could both end up indoctrinated because of their ties with Cerberus. Same goes for Jacob and Miranda but I won't give them the chance. Going to make another playthrough to let them die during the SM.

Liara because she turned into a creepy stalker in my playthrough. Never romanced her but yet she searches the galaxy for my Shepards body, betrays Shepard to Cerberus, withholds items like Shepards dog tags, armor etc. and displays them in her quarters like a shrine.

Stalkers sometimes tend to try to kill their victims if they are not responsive to them. I can see it happening that Shepard could be forced to kill her unless the writers give her plot armor yet again.

Legion - Tali (depending on you choices)
Mordin - Grunt/Wrex (depending on you choices)
Ashley (alliance fanatic, she thinks all aliens are bears or bug-eyed monsters)

Only the Shepards that cheated on her. Image IPB

On a serious note. If Ashley is Shepards LI and someone threatens the live of the man she loves I sure hope so that she will protect him.

Edit: Ashley kills Wrex only if Shepard is unable of calming Wrex down (lack of paragon/renegade skill which would be the players own fault) or if Shepard orders her to do it. That again would be the players fault.

A Virmire LI vs. LI choice would be cool but not likely to be a one shoots the other event. Unless one of them is Jack.

Tali is definitely one of these. Side with the geth against the fleet and she tries to kill you. Side for peace and you have to charm her or have her as LI. Side against the geth and you have to kill Legion.

Kaiden or Ashley would only turn traitor if you somehow aligned yourself with the Reapers and Cerberus.

Jacob and Miranda may already be enemies at the start depending on the events of the Suicide Mission. Keep the base, watch your old Cerberus friends become indoctrinated foes.

I'm hoping for a choice between Liara and Samara... Shadowbroker vs. Justicar. Someone destroy Liara's plot armor please!

I disagree, in this story, the only ones it would make sense for is Tali and Legion and that's only if you on some "wipe em all out and lets get on with it" kick. Which would be really heavy handed and seem to be an option just for the sake of causing a dramatic confrontation. Because it would make no sense to try and screw over an entire species in this situation, you cant afford to throw away resources like that. It was solid in ME1, it made sense, its just one person, but on this scale what could you be doing to stick to one person.

Eh, I'm not all too worried about my Shep, since the people she really cares about tends to be more like her- Thane, Garrus, and if push comes to shove, Legion over Tali.

If it comes down to being able to paragon or renegade yourself out of trouble, though, I'm going to be massively pissed if it's based like it is in ME2, effectively telling paragades or renegons to turn around and assume the position.

I don't care who they are, it sounds like it'll be awesome regardless. Almost makes me wish Samara and Tali didn't die. Oh...wait...it doesn't.
