how do you think a "ideal" or "properly functionning" party should look like
my guess would be 2 warriors (1 tank, 1off tank), 1 rogue (also for the off-combat skills), 1 mage for healing and ranged
or do you think a party will get along with 2 rogues, 1mage, 1 warrior (or 2 mages, 1 rogue, 1 warrior) - or will this be too squishy? most parties seen on videos seem to contain quite som warriors...

if i choose a female city elf rogue as leader
alistair
oghren
morrigan
if i choose a male human warrior as leader
oghren
leliana
morrigan
but i really can't decide between the two origins/classes :-)

deciding which role my toon is going to fulfill first is the real challenge.
i'm leaning in the direction of my lady elf mage first so probably alistair, sten, and leliana.

Basic layout for my first party is going to be:
PC: Female City Elf Rouge, Duelist spec
Ranged: Leliana Bard/Ranger emphasizing archery
Tank: Split right now, either Alistair or Shale, if Shale winds up being an interesting character
Mage: Wynne, Spirit Healer all the way, I don't want to have to rely on potions and poultices

So it's either 2 tanks, a rogue (Leliana) and a Healer (Wynn).
Or 1 tank (dog), 2 rogues, and Healer.
Oh, the dilemma!

Who will be with me will mostly be decided by which partymembers seem most interesting. But probably my party will look like this most of the time:
Me (backstabbing and pestering foes left and right)
Dog (biting said foes in all possible extremities)
Oghren (for those who survive my beloved doggy)
Morrigan (every party needs it´s moaning, grumbling, people hating mage)

My PC, rogue archer bard/duelist specializing in single target attacks and a smattering of melee archery. She'll be my Mage slayer.
Alistair will be my main meat shield, Will make him a champion on top of being a Templar.
Wynne will be my healer and area of effect-er, probably will make her an Arcane Warrior.
Dog will be my immobilizer and an extra damager. And someone I can use baby-talk on... besides Alistair, I mean.

There's one other configuration I may try at some point, melee tank, melee dps, ranged caster dps, ranged caster heal.

Wynne, for mostly a dedicated healer. Buffs + spirit healer.
Leliana, using her for dual wielding + bard buffs, might dual-spec her into duelist/assassin
and lastly, Alistair, for the obvious meat shield. Every successful group needs a meat shield!

i am wondering how much you can change the specialization of your companions - making allistair a champion would be great, since you start out with him, he shouldnt have too many points spent IF you can change the spec. at all...(and if you can find it / get it - since some spec. seem to be difficult to obtain)
They all start with one specialization. Alistair is a Templar, Wynne is a Spirit Healer, etc, but all characters get two specilizations, thus you can give them another. You can't change their original spec, but I am sure mods will change that if possible, I think.

maybe you can't give am another spec cause they are "predesigned" characters...just because the pc can have two doesnt mean everyone can... also if you get one of the companions later in the game, i dont know if you can sepnd the spezialisation points then yourself or if they are preset

I would like to use Morrigan and Alistair on my first playthrough, I'll have to see if it is necessary to take Wynn and how that will affect things though.

For me it really depends whether you need a healer.

Lots of reviews and people from the Warden's Quest have already said that you, basically, need a healer. Personally I would've liked to see the healer role be combined with something else. Perhaps a cleric-esque class. Oh well.

Me: Human Mage/Shapeshifter/Arcane Warrior
Alistair
Morrigan
and either Leliana or Wynne, yesterday I was leaning towards Leliana, but today I like Wynne, healing spells are useful

Don´t know for sure, but if Dragon Age is like any other Bioware games, you have to manually assign your gained points and as such are able to do this whenever you want to.
