myself -- elf mage, specializing in rock and ice damage (shatter combo), mana/stamina regeneration with the ability to throw out the odd heal, and shapeshifting
wynne -- healbot, buffbot, possibly rune or hex bot
shale -- hopefully mdps/tank hybrid (but i'm really not sure how he plays)... am also hoping he will be able to contribute to shatter combos
fourth spot will go to whatever is most needed. alistair if pure tank, one of the others if i need more damage.

My shaphifter mage: (Dps/Debuffer)
Wynne: (Healer/CC)
Alistair: (Tank/Snark/Eyecandy)
Zevran: (Melee DPS/Rogue Support/Romance)
This how I imagine my first play through will go. I think the banter should be amusing. I want to see how Wynne responds to being hit on by Zevran.

its not set in stone but I think it'll probably be something like this
myself (champion/berserker being tank/2h warrior)
the dog (idk what to name him but its got to be something bc I don't want to be running around calling him dog)
morrigan (dps, heal when needed)
zevran (either between him and the girl, but I'd rather him than a bard)

Janus, Dwarven Noble Rogue
Duelist/Assassin
Shale, Wynne, and Dog (Kismet)
Morally Goodish
16 in Cunning, the rest in Dex;
the 4 levels of Persuasion first, then Duel Weilding talents
Memory Band, Band of Fire, Embri's Many Pockets, Amulet of the War Mage, Bergen's Honor, (for starters)
Straight; Leliana over Morrigan
Ordering Wardens Keep asap.
Now all I have to do is install the game.

Depending on HOW invested Allistair is in tanking, I'd want to take him along. (playing a human tank, first) If I can change him to a decent 2 handed warrior, I'll be set. (I dislike Sten, right now. That may change in later play throughs)
So, if that can happen it'll be:
Me (tank)
Allistair (Warrior DPS)
Morrigan (Spell DPS/Healer)
Leliana (DPS/Support)
If I can't get to Allistair soon enough, I'll replace him with Dog.

First playthrough Me (elven mage) Alistair Main Tank, Leliana Ranged DPS, Sten flanking DPS with that big two hander of his. Worse comes to worse and I find I need healing I'll spend a couple talents in Spirit chain. Though eventually on future play throughs, I hope to see every companion in action and do all their side quests.

If I start off with human noble, my hero will be the tank, then I will have my dog for melee dps, then have leliana as a range with wynne as my healer
My dwarf will be 2h dps, so probably alistar for my tank, then morrigan as dps, and wynne healing

Lots of reviews and people from the Warden's Quest have already said that you, basically, need a healer. Personally I would've liked to see the healer role be combined with something else. Perhaps a cleric-esque class. Oh well.
They also rushed content, didnt mess around with a lot of the non combat abilities, missing a ton of loot. For all we know during a steady "grab it all" playthrough loot may be superior and Herbalism/Trap making it a little easier. I'll be devastated if Wynn is our only healer, though Morrigan can pick up heals from the normal spell trees.
For me its looking like:
Shale/Dog/Alistar - Want the dog, but will miss banter between Alistar and Morrigan. Shale is an "unknown" right now as to his character and abilities.
Morrigan - Heals - general magic
Lelianna - turned Assassin though, Bard is "nice" and all, but I want me some mage stabber action here.
PC - Mage - Arcane Warrior. My "fill two roles" character. Reading the spells and the talents makes me think there are some nice combinations, though it might not work to well, since there are a lot of spells that are "modes" which I assume wont stack.

arcane warrior could be quite interesting since you can take your magic rating to wear weapons and armor - in combination with spirit magic you could build a fits-every-role pc - healer, offtank, range and close dps

Rogue or Mage (Me), Alistair, Zevran or Morrigan, and Dog
I want 4 so having a tough time. Want Dog (love dogs), Alistair and Morrigan have awesome banter, but also want Zevran for the romance. So still trying to figure out what I am willing to sacrafice.

This... except I'll be a human noble (sword and board)
A healer sounds like a must, so Wynne is in. The guy from the UK Warden's Quest event mentioned leaving a lot of locked chests untouched, so Leliana gets a spot (plus, she's cute
The dog sounds pretty useful, but no room I'm afraid.

At the moment I'm planning to have my main party be.
My Human Female Mage
Morrigan
Leliana
and Sten
We'll see how that goes. Planning to build my mage as a mostly Primal tree, but definitely grabbing some buffs like working up to haste. Might go for the Psychic line too. Definitely picking shapeshifter, then either Arcane Warrior or Spirit Healer, whichever seems more suitable at the time. No nasty demon magic for me.
I'm planning on Morrigan being more of my debuffer/hexer. She'll get the Entropy and Spirit spells I'm mostly skipping on my mage.

First play through I'm going to have two warriors (Al and Sten/Oghren), a ranged rogue (me) and Morrigan.
After that I'll experiment with all of the combinations. Not sure I'll ever use two mages though, that sounds like a lot of micro managing.

Well.
My PC will be a female elven nuker. I'm absolutely taking Wynne along, I'm never good with heals but I'll be bringing pots along. Alistair is a must--I adore him already. He'll be the secondary damage dealer and secondary tank. Shale, if I can, for the primary tank. I get the feeling not a lot works on him.

Its certainly one of the hardest things for me to decide... I guess they limit you for replay value but I always hate trying to decide who I want to take with me.
I'm sure for certain parts of the game you will lean more toward certain characters but so far I think the best (and most interesting) for me to use as a "default" group will be .....
Alistair --- for tankage and sarcastic wit
Morrigan --- for DPS and some healing, not to mention her funny as hell one-liner's (and cleavage)
Lelianna --- for getting all that loot behind locked doors
Me --- as Arcane Warrior with some healing. (something about playing a mage in plate male with a
large 2handed sword that just intrigues the hell outta me)
Wynne would make more sense but her character type bores me. The only issue I forsee is as a good-guy and a completist Morrigan might get pissy. She does get ****y when you trail off on side quests.. so maybe Wynne will get the nod when not on the main storyline.
Edit....
Though the option of being the Rogue and dumping Lelianna for someone more interesting (obvious speculation) such as Shale or the Dwarf still is thumping around in my brain.

Me - Elven mage, focusing on healing and support, focusing in Spirit Healer and not sure on second spec yet. Maybe Shapeshifter for some damage utility on low-incoming-damage fights.
Shale (Tank)
Leliana (Ranged DPS / Lock-picker extraordinaire)
Either Oghren, Dog, or Morrigan here. Leaning towards Morrigan, I think there's some interesting combos to play with (spell combos and two-mage combos; e.g. FF the tank then Inferno)

Im just going to play the game as I feel. There are no plans. I will make decisions based on how I feel they should be made at the time they need or don't need to be made. But if I had to say, I'm definately taking Morrigan and Shale. Big rock dude and a hot mage. lol
