So I've been playing this game for over a year now iwth no problem. However, recently, on Illium, my game keeps crashing. I cant figure out why.

The latest thing that I installed was the new DLC,  however, that was a while ago. Also, i just recently updated my graphics drivers, but i cant figure out whats going on.

Ive already uninstalled it and installed it and still nothing.

Thanks guys any help would be much appreciated.

I had the game lock up on Shadow Broker DLC's mission, after car chase.

I would reccomend updating the game with newest patch, which is 1.02 if I recall correctly.

I did that and game hasn't crashed since.

P.S. I also had trouble with lock up on Overlord DLC, when you were supposed to take Hammerhead to the next part of the level. Fixed that too.

Yea, I already have the latest version of it, :(

OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional Service Pack 1 (6.1.7601)
CPU: Intel® Core™ i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz
RAM: 6GB
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 275 SLI
DirectX: DirectX 10.0 (Mar2009) or later
MassEffect 2 V: v1.02

I keep crashing in the tunnel underneath Liara on Illium. The previous mission that i just completed was Jack's loyalty mission.

You left off mention of driver IDs, but now that you tell us you have a Geforce, the fact is that nVIDIA managed to break all of the UT3 games ever since its 258-something driver set, and has done nothing to fix that problem since then.

Tunnel under Liara is a known crash area. Ideas are to play in windows mode in that area, look down some say works, don't force AA is also recommended. Look for the thread here about LOTSB crashes and read up, but I doubt if that much can be done that isn't discussed in that thread unless that isn't the only crash area.

edit:

This thread at the end reccomends disabling dynamic shadows.....

Hmm I didn't know it was a known crash area... Actually, beside the non-patched DLC missions I don't think I have ever had Mass Effect 2 lock up or CTD.

However, I also have Radeon 4670 GPU, and seeing Gorath Alpha being more knowledgeable on the nVidia + Unreal 3 Engine games topic, I don't think I have a say in this.

I would only like to say that, using the drivers to force certain options like AntiAliasing and other stuff games do not support themselves, well, they don't support it for reason. Perhaps it's proved buggy in alpha testing and cut out.People should just forget about tiny graphics stuff and enjoy the game :P

Yea, I just turned off the dynamic shadows and didnt run and I didnt crash. :)
It's a shame that they just ignore these kinds of problems. There shouldnt be any reason that we should be changing up configurations like that. Anyways, When i installed the LotSB i didnt get this problem. This started when i installed the Arrival DLC...

Well anyways, thanks for the help guys. Really helped.

It's Nvidia's fault, not BioWare's. The game worked fine before the driver change and BioWare didn't change anything. If you want to play with dynamic shadows safely try reverting to driver set 258.96. You don't gain much by having newer drivers on a semi-old graphics card like that anyways.

There's also a thread about UAC (for some reason) affecting the game and causing CTDs. Don't see how it could help, but don't see how it could hurt either. I'm still waiting on an explanation as to why turning something off then back on can make much of a difference, but I'm guessing Bioware/EA knows something about ME2 not being able to do something when UAC is activated, and one of their many "fixes" is to (temporarily) disable it. I don't know...still not convinced, but here it is:
