Despite some obvious flaws, the game is much better (and more well-received) than you would think just from looking at the BSN forums. This place is a cesspool of angst.

More well received?

Have you actually been outside BSN to see how received the game is?

I dare say that BSN at least contains some semblance of  opinion-variety.  Other gaming forums  don't even have that.  It's just Hate.... across the board.  And we're not just talking about metacritic here.   We're talking all over.  Everywhere  where players are allowed to voice their opinions.

DA2 has been like a nuclear bomb dropped on the internet.  Pretty darn interesting, actually.

The world goes beyond the internet, and the internet's like that anyway. Until there's open warfare in city streets I'd say clennon8 might be right.

Well, if it goes beyond the internet, then clennon8  can't accurately say whether it's more well received, would he?

As it stands, we only have  feedback on the internet as a gauge, and this feedback does NOT suggest that the game is "more well received" than it is here at BSN.

Is Sunday night when we dig up old, tired topics? Because no one sent me the memo. I'm sick and tired of being left out of the loop like this.

Besides, Sunday night is waffle night in our house. That's tastier and more fun than flogging dead forum horses.

OOPs.   That would be me.     I'm the guy tasked with sending out the memos.  I'm laxing on my job requirements.    Sorry.  here goes:

MEMORANDUM
ATTN: Mousestalker
RE: DA2

Please be advised - free your schedule up on Sunday, as it is the day when tired old  topics are to be dug up.  Also note: we have already discussed   the waffle night scheduling conflict at last week's meeting  (where were you?) and have concluded that as enjoyable as it is,   Waffle night cannot take precidence over the weekly dead-horse-flogging ritual at this time.

Thank you,

So if The Witcher 2 is coming out for Xbox 360 then will we get a bonus of The Witcher 1 with it or not? Like Alice Madness Returns it came with the first game of the series if you bought a new copy.

So at least is Dragon Age 2 better than the Tales of series I mentioned in my original topic post. Like Tales of the Abyss, Tales of Symphonia Dawn of the new world, and Tales of Vesperia

Eh, that sort of depends. You interacted more with your companions in DAO than you do in DA2. Though, it can be argued that you get a bit more out of the interaction in DA2, story-wise at least. You are only allowed to converse with your companions when the game tells you to, and only at their designated "home bases." Any banter outside of that is restricted to exchanges triggered by location or simple reactions to being clicked on ("Lead on", "Hawke", etc).

You still learn a great deal about your companions, and I love them all, but I definitely wish we had more interaction with them as a whole.

Nah DA2 has many good things going for it. It is disappointing compared to origins but it does not really deserve the hate it has received. That said, it WAS obviously rushed to market to capitalize on origins' success.

Since you already own the game, why not play it and make up your own mind? Btw I'm just finishing up Alan Wake now and pardon me while I soapbox.... ahem....

Devs should stick to what the eff they are good at. Alan Wake sucks so much at platforming that it makes me want to kick kittens (and I love kittens normally), yet in every stage they just HAVE to put in some stupid and irritating platforming section with bad angles, horrible edge detection, and shoddy camera work. Good game overall I think, but FFS the platforming is TERRIBLE.

Ninja Gaiden II was a great action game... but the story was a joke and the dialog was worse than a Bazooka Joe strip. My point? Devs..... ALL of you from Remedy to Double Fine to Bioware to Tecmo.... stick to what you are good at. We aren't idiots, and we can tell *$&% from Shinola. Alan Wake isn't Ezio, and Ryu Hayabusa is no Revan. Stop trying to be something other than what you are.

/rant off

Oh, and DA2 isn't a bad game, it's just not a great game, which many Bioware fans expect (*cough* demand *cough*).

I would just like to point out that "Fans" probably wouldnt say that DA2 was bad at all... otherwise they wouldn't be fans.

If you want to know if DA2 is as bad as it's "ENEMIES" say it is.... well I can help you out there.

The answer is no, It's worse... much worse.  It's a thousand times more horrible than your worst nightmare... wait, no.

Its a nightmare, inside a nightmare... inside a nightmare.... wrapped in feces.

don't bother trying it out yourself... I tried it....  The enemies are right.

IMO, Tales of Symphonia >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> DA2.

It's silly and fun - DA2 is equally silly, but in a plodding, pseudo-serious way.

The critical reviews for the game are generally quite good.  And, yeah, that means more to me than the wailing and gnashing of teeth of some hyperventilating whiners in a message board.

The story, gameplay, combat are not nearly as good as DAO but DA2 is still worth playing.

I just don't like how one sided DA2 is. You have very limited options.  Most bioware games give you choices to change the course of the game, but in DA2 you don't have control over anything. It's like your playing "their" game instead of  "your" game.

This is not your typical bioware game.  For example ME1, ME2 & DAO were completely epic in that special bioware way. But DA2 is completely different in a bad way...

But it's still worth playing if you like DA lore.

I was hoping this game would be better than the original! I love bioware games with KOTOR being my favorite even though it's really old. I liked Dragon Age Origins and Mass Effect 1 but was dissappointed in them a lil cuz I thought the story and character interaction would be more epic. But I did like them.

I have a feeling you'll be more disappointed with DA 2. The story and character interaction in DA 2 is more "EPIC" if you view it as personal story. But then again, I have a feeling that you'll be disappointed in this area as well since it's more likely about watching a cinema and feeling personal.

Anyways Dragon Age 2 ain't that bad is it?

You could check this poll.

Alicia Keys wrote...
Ign gave it a 8.5 out of 10. What makes you fans dislike this game so much?

Many. It's covered by Fans' Review thread on top of this board.

Alicia Keys wrote...
Are the characters better in part 2 or is Origins better in that area?

This is subject to personal preferences. We've been arguing this intensively for more than 4 months. I've been arguing this for a year before DA 2 even released due to my concern of Mass Effecting Dragon Age 2.

Alicia Keys wrote...
Also I will get the Legacy DLC too when it comes out in 2 days and all future DLC. Also will there be an expansion pack for Dragon Age 2 like there was for Origins?

No comment. I simply couldn't care.

Alicia Keys wrote...
Also what would you rate all 3 dragon age games from best to worst (Dragon Age Origins, Dragon Age Awakenings, and Dragon Age 2.

This is personal question so keep in mind that my answer is personal opinion.
DA O = 9.4

DA Awakening = Not justifified to compared with DA O as DA O is a full game while DA Awakening is just an expansion.

DA 2 = 7 ( I predicted 8.5 before it was released but even my pessimistic prediction is better than metacritic score of 8.2 for PC )

Tales of Vesperia is way better than Dragon Age 2.

I wouldn't say the game was bad, but it's probably the second worst rpg I've played on my ps3.

It's more disappointing than outright bad.

Play DA:O first. I enjoyed damn near everything about it (not perfect, but pretty awesome 9.5/10 in my book)

Rent DA2 first (you can beat it in that time if you set your mind to it). While some changes are for the better, the game as a whole doesn't feel like a sequel. Rather than improve what Origins had, DA2 implimented alot of changes that (IMO) didn't really pan out positively. It's not a horrible game,by any means, but it's dissappointing.

You can argue about the story/storytelling, but I really think DA2 has better gameplay and combat.  In fact, the combat is better by an order of magnitude.

It's a very enjoyable game once you get past the first couple of hours and throw any expectations out the door. I struggled to "get into it" because I felt completely detached from what was going on in the game (be prepared to do a lot of inane questing).

I find the combat to be the most enjoyable part of the game, and because of that, I feel it has more replay value than Origins.

Unless you don't give a fig about combat and then, well...

Even combat was not more fun for me, because of the derpiness in AoE casting and lack of isometric camera.  It was maddening most of the time.

It's about average for a console RPG, if you can stomach the reused enviroments and generally tedious and predictable story arc. It's nothing I would recommend anyone actually pay money for, maybe it's worth a weekend rent if you are like, bored out of your mind.

I would say, you get more replayability out of dw7,then DA2 *hate barrier up*

Ihave played it Six times, just to try different combat mechanics, and voice sets. Is it as bad as people say? Not quite but almost. Honestly its not worth the 100aud i paid for it. Ihave been playing RPG's since the nes days. and IMO

DA2 deserves a score of 4. The PS1 game: Star Ocean-The Second Story,has 100% more replayability then DA2.

Here its already being sold, really cheap brand new, Origins ultimate edition is worth more lol.

Addai...if you want just a story I suggest you go read books. Gaming has always been ( at least half it anyway ) about GAMEPLAY.

No. IMHO most of the rage borders on hyperbole of hyperbole.

Is the game perfect? No way. Was it rushed? Yes.

Is it still a good game? Hell, yes! Esp. after Patch 1.03. And as with DAO, mods are helping!!

But I'd advise you to make up your own mind. Do not let bandwagon hopping and exaggerated outrage influence your opinion on a game you haven't even played yet.

Perhaps there are those of us who would rather NOT use mods to have to make a game enjoyable ( I loved ME2 without mods, I love TW2 without mods but I think DA:O is **** without them for instance ).

Personally I think it is superior in many ways to DA:O. Yes DA:O has a more polished story then DA2, so what? It still was a complete piece of cliche ****.
