To the OP - it's neither as good as the fans say nor as bad as the fans say it is. It's exactly as you yourself perceive it. If you like dark fantasy setting and a general dragon age storyline (by now you've probably heard all you ever wanted to know about the plot) - then just play it and see whether you'll like it.

To be honest I don't find this game bad. I really like this game.
I've heard from many ppl that gameplay has been made much easier in comparison DA:O.
I can't say my own opinion as I've bought DA2 and I haven't played DA:O yet.

If you are intelectual person, who grinds teeths over illogical things (or things that dont make sense), dont fancy plot holes, loves clever and funny non-combat parts of a game and even fancy some variety ... well then I have very bad news for you regarding quality of Dragon Age 2

I would never suggest such a thing ... nor did I wanted to offend anyone ... but for my long observation of DA2 love / hate discussion I found out, that COMBAT oriented players prefer DA2 a lot on the other hand people who dont prefer combat, but are more about the story and the plot, the lore and how it works in game system ... meaning non-combat ie. intelectual (maybe i used wrong word, for that im sorry - english is not my first nor second language) just cant miss all the cuts done to plot, lore and logic itlself in the name of combat and game system ...

so Intelectual != Intelligent to be clear =)

What if it's so garbled as to be nearly unitelligible when you suggest it?

Ahum. It's certainly different from DA:O.

I personally found it to be inferior artistically and gameplay wise, more poorly designed and with a story that lacked focus yet felt very railroaded.

But I'm just another guy on the internets with an opinion.
Watch some let's plays or rent it if that's possible.

Depends on what kind of player you are. I find it one of the most disappointing games ever and as bad as the fans say.

If you enjoy complex immersive games with great depth and captivating storylines, characters that have life and depth, interesting, lengthy and varied dialogue and plenty of character interaction in general, meaningful choices and consequences and having the options and freedom to do and say things the way that suit your character then DA2 isnt for you.

If you dont like depth, complexity, immersion or customization and enjoy fast, cartoony combat, streamlined, easy games that arent hard to get into and your attention span isnt exactly long and you cant take 10 minutes of gameplay without a fight then DA2 and all its awesomebuttoness is perfect for you.

Well I bought the signature edition the day it came out but haven't gotten to play it yet cuz I save my most favorite or intereting games last with Dragon Age 2 being the last one. I have Darksiders to complete which I'm playing now and then I have Cursed Mountain, The Calling, Tales of the Abyss, Tales of Vesperia, Tales of Symphonia Dawn of the New World, Alice Madness Returns, Alan Wake, and Dead Space 2. So it won't be for a while before I play Dragon Age 2. I was hoping this game would be better than the original! I love bioware games with KOTOR being my favorite even though it's really old. I liked Dragon Age Origins and Mass Effect 1 but was dissappointed in them a lil cuz I thought the story and character interaction would be more epic. But I did like them. I still haven't played Mass Effect 2 cuz that's on the last of the list even though I didn't mention it before because i'm not going to play it until Mass Effect 3 comes out then I will play the whole trilogy. Anyways Dragon Age 2 ain't that bad is it? Ign gave it a 8.5 out of 10. What makes you fans dislike this game so much? Are the characters better in part 2 or is Origins better in that area? Also I will get the Legacy DLC too when it comes out in 2 days and all future DLC. Also will there be an expansion pack for Dragon Age 2 like there was for Origins? Also what would you rate all 3 dragon age games from best to worst (Dragon Age Origins, Dragon Age Awakenings, and Dragon Age 2)

It has only one problem with me and that's the repeat of the dungeons. It has a good story, not as compelling as DAO. The characters are great. And it has more and more Dragon Age lore which if written into a book I think would be the size of a bible. I actully perfered the way they went with Hawke instead of the Warden and it worked great with the story. Its a epic tragic, drama, action, comedy! And not to mention it's better then half of the games you are working on.

Any person that actually thinks BioWare has not bent over backwards to allow people to voice their concerns flat out has rocks in their heads.  It's actually absured just how lenient and understanding BioWAre and the moderators have been in this regard. 

As for the op's question.  The game has a couple of well documented problems.but overall it's well worth buying and playing.  It contains a few of the best BioWare companions of any game they have ever made and since that is the and always has been the big strength of their games it's worth playing.

If you dont like depth, complexity, immersion or customization and enjoy fast, cartoony combat, streamlined, easy games that arent hard to get into and your attention span isnt exactly long and you cant take 10 minutes of gameplay without a fight then DA2 and all its awesomebuttoness is perfect for you.

Sheer and utter nonsense.  Total baloney.  There are some big weaknesses in the game but companions and characters, your relation to them, how they deal with you is not one of them.    Your totally out to lunch.  Such tripe.
