So I've heard that if you don't do Morrigan's ritual someone dies while fighting the dragon at the end... what happens if it's the main character and then I go on and try to play all Awakenings, Witch Hunt, etc. all the DLC (I have ultimate version)

And is there any way to make someone not important die? (I don't want Alistair to die either).

If you don't do the ritual then its either you, Alistair, or the Secret Companion that's gotta go then. I'm not sure about your first question. You can load a character into Awakening that has done the Ultimate Sacrifice, but I think it gives you a set background for the way things occured in Origins. I could be wrong on that though, since I have never done it myself.

If your Warden dies in DAO, you can still import that character into Awakening. It is retconned so that the ritual took place. It is not possible to import just your DAO choices but let the Warden stay dead.

The other option is to start a new Orlesian warden in which case you get a set background.

Well for your first question, Either you or Alistair/Secret Companion HAS to die to kill the Archdemon.
Only other option is the Dark Ritual with Morrigan.

If you import a DEAD Warden into Awakening/DLCs then it changes your story to you did the Dark Ritual and no one died.

If you Import a Living Warden, Alistair or Secret companion died. Then it stays thats way and the game keeps track that they are dead.

You can also play as a New Orlesian Warden instead in Awakenings and Import that into the DLC.

Who is this "secret companion"? Does it have to be Loghain? Cause I hate that guy and wanna kill him off earlier.

Yup

Theres actualy a achivement called "Redeemer" if you have Loghain die killing the Archdemon. Hes also not nearly as bad as he seems from what normal players see of him in the game.

If youve read the Dragon Age novels that take place before the game you get some insights into his character.

But also just talking to him after you recruit him reveals alot, and also he has some choice dialog in Return to Ostagar.

My favorite landsmeet outcome is sparing Loghain and recruiting him and having Alistair marry Anora.

how can you spare Loghain and keep Alistair?  I tried the spare Loghain and marry Alistair off but he split anyway.

Does it have anything to do with Alistair being hardened?  I thought I had hardened him, but maybe i hadn't....

You can't. If you spare Loghain and make him a warden, Alistair will always leave. If he's hardened and you had him agree to marry Anora, that can still go ahead and he will be king (you must remind him of the fact at Landsmeet, as he has a bit of a hissy fit). If he's not hardened then there's no way to do this. The remaining choices are to allow him to leave Fereldan (he turns up as a drunk in Kirkwall in DA2 if this outcome is chosen, which is quite amusing) or having him executed, which you don't witness.

As Last Darkness says, recruiting Loghain leads to some interesting dialogue especially if you save Return to Ostagar until after Landsmeet. If he survives the game (eg you did the dark ritual) then he'll also have a cameo in Awakening, where his rather poetic fate is revealed.

Yeah theres weird hidden dialog in the game the most people never experience.

Loghain is one example, another is if Ohgren goes with you in the Circle Tower in Origins and then later in the Black Marsh in Awakening. (Remember Dwarves know nothing of the Fade really)
