Could you hide helms just like you could do with Mass Effect?

Helms turn off automatically for cutscenes, but otherwise, no, IIRC, there's no option to hide the helm.

That sucks! So they gave us a character creator which is really a head/face creator so that we can cover all our creations with a generic helmet. Wow Bioware's developers pure genius! Who came up with the bright idea needed to be promoted. Punt intended!

Hopefully there's some circlet of unimaginable power that I can put on my player character . Alternatively, a mage might be able to get away without a helm.....

Personally i think it's good that you can't hide them. Where have you read in any fantasy book that they have an option to 'hide their helmets'? :)

It isn't really realistic to have your face protected from harm without a helm showing.

Be glad there is not a scarring system ingame. Back in Fable(2nd playthrough), the first thing I did was saving all my gold to buy a chainmail helmet. You don't want to know what my first character ended up looking like without head protection.

Ameorn is right, for a game which is supposed to be all about the story and the Roleplaying, to be able to hide ones helmet would be odd. However to have it as an option for those who do want to hide them seems like something which couldnt do any harm at all. Thus I have to say that its a major error not to include it, if indeed they havnt. But since it was in ME then surely it makes sense to have it in this game?

I never wear one, unless for some reason it's awesome looking or has an effect i just can't live without, which is hardly ever.

But seeing as you get a bonus for wearing a set of armour i may have to.

The difference between helmets in DAO and ME is that they're a separate piece of equipment with their own properties. In ME they were just a part of your body armour, and apart from those planets where the atmosphere wasn't breathable, they served no purpose.

Hmmmm. I would also prefer an option to hide the helmet. But the option for faces is likely because helmets are auto-removed in cut-scenes.

That's a bit extreme as a reaction, don't you think?
After all, no one's forcing you to actually make your characters wear helmets.
If you really need the bonus they provide, then just wear them during combat (i.e. when you'll likely be too busy to pay attention to your character's face anyway) and take them off when you're in a non-combat area.
As a bonus, this will also actually be realistic behaviour, because no one would choose to wear a helm when they didn't have too (just watch, for instance, a fencing bout and you'll see that the fencers take off their masks asap).

There are a few cutscenes so far where the helm doesn't get removed and its kind of jarring because there is obviously supposed to be an expression you see on the pc's face but cannot because of the helm.

Nope.

There is no option to "hide" helmets or headgear. If you choose to wear a helmet, you see the helmet.

I've never understood the rather silly desire for an option to hide armor, or in the case of mmo's, to display armor that is entirely different from what you are wearing.

If you want the benefits from a helm, you wear the helm. If you want all your enemies to see your hair waving in the wind before they split your head open with an axe / skewer it with an arrow, then don't wear the helm.

Having the option seems like ludicrous vanity taken to an unrealistic extreme. Its not like in real life I can put some invisible force around my head to deflect blows. Kudo's to Bioware for not including this option.

Have to laugh at the way people who wantto play in a role-playing game(Usually infers a certain degree of realism)..want ot be able to have some magic button that hides their helm..but still allows them to have full damage mitigation!

If you want your face to be seen don't wear a helm..or take it off prior to situations where you need to converse etc.

Simple really..

Has a lot to do with art design in a lot of games.. Eq2 comes to mind. Idea is it's up to the player. Personally I tend to not hide helms or capes, but can understand why some people would (if it's especially horrid). Can't say I understand the idea that if another player wants to hide their helm that it in some way will affect your game. That's what you're saying, rather you mean to or not. Why else would you care right? <_<

Helms are hidden before cutscenes.

a lot of games have seperate helms and armor, or if they come both then while armor looks great the helmet is ugly, and i personally hate to run around in an ox helmet or such that looks terrible just because it has good stats

plus i like to see the face of my characters (most of the time), and this option was already introduced in mass effect anyway, i never used helmets in it

They served the purpose of making you look a little more threatening. I wish the visors had been tinted though, perhaps they would have stopped EVERYONE knowing you're a SPECTRE before you open your mouth!

I won't be wearing a helm in the game for what it's worth. Not unless they give super duper benefits.

I don't see how a mages cloth helm would protect them anyway. This is a fantasy game and in my fantasys helmets don't exist because they are ugly and stupid looking. My party wants to run around like they are in a medieval Pantene commercial and Zevran says helms ruin his hair anyway lol Luis Royo is the King of Dark Fantasy art and his subjects don't seem to have had any problem felling big yucky monsters without helms or clothes for that matter lol.
