Or you know, just wait for the inevitable mod that makes them invisible like kotor had (for very good reason, damn those helmets were ugly in that game)

I've seen them. Morrigan would never wear something as retarded as what she is wearing in a couple of those screens. It completely ruins her look.

I've never understood the rather silly desire for an option to hide armor, or in the case of mmo's, to display armor that is entirely different from what you are wearing.
If you want the benefits from a helm, you wear the helm. If you want all your enemies to see your hair waving in the wind before they split your head open with an axe / skewer it with an arrow, then don't wear the helm.
Having the option seems like ludicrous vanity taken to an unrealistic extreme. Its not like in real life I can put some invisible force around my head to deflect blows. Kudo's to Bioware for not including this option.
To be honest, I don't understand your opinion. It's a game. If you think not showing a helm is unrealistic and vain, then by all means, always display your helm. Let those who want to see their character's expression, hair, etc do so -- their characters will not affect your gaming experience.
Also, I can't imagine helm toggling to be a difficult feature to implement. Sounds to me like a simple boolean or integer flag that says whether or not to display the helm. Easy peasy.

Displaying helmets (or not) is a personal preference. Some like it, some don't, so be it.

Really? I never wore helmets and my characters always looked fine...GhoXen wrote...
It isn't really realistic to have your face protected from harm without a helm showing.
Be glad there is not a scarring system ingame. Back in Fable(2nd playthrough), the first thing I did was saving all my gold to buy a chainmail helmet. You don't want to know what my first character ended up looking like without head protection.

I hope you can hide your armor. OH, and get a wicked awesome nudie mod (giggle) to remove the stupid loincloth and bandeau top. That way, I can make a fraps called "The Emporer's New Armor" and post it on Youtube! Yay!

I hate to break it to you, kid, but the next blow you take to your un-protected head might be the last.
Better strap a helmet on, just in case.

What's so bad about giving players an unrealistic option in a video game?

That sucks! So they gave us a character creator which is really a head/face creator so that we can cover all our creations with a generic helmet. Wow Bioware's developers pure genius! Who came up with the bright idea needed to be promoted. Punt intended!
Wow, are you related to FlameChamp23? Of all the things you could possibly be opposed of in this video game you decide to lash at the developers because you cannot hide your helmet...wow. Do you actually realize how much time and effort and MONEY gets put into a project like this? I don't think you deserve to even play this game. If you're gonna get bent outta shape because you can't have your character looking like you feel it should 100% the time then maybe you should forget video games and just play Barbie.

I've seen them. Morrigan would never wear something as retarded as what she is wearing in a couple of those screens. It completely ruins her look.
On the contrary, the heavy axe that would split her head open would "ruin her look" a bit more than the helmet she would definately wear to stop that from happening.

To those that oppose having this as an option, I ask, "Why?" This is a single player game. If you're against it and it's an option, just turn on the show option and be happy. It's not like you're going to see what others elect to do.
To those that may want to hide your helmet, but the game may not allow you to do so, I have to wonder if that is really a deal breaker for you. As I wrote, this type of functionality is just a vanity gimmick. Tell you what, if the game doesn't allow you to hide your helm, you can either refuse to wear one (not recommended), or wear one in-game, but place a mirror near your computer, go to a salon and get one of the hideous doo's they offer during character creation, and then periodically pause the game, stare into the mirror, and yell, "YAWP!" (recommended)
Problem solved. Both parties happy!

yeah because leather is so protective that way <_< That isn't how that game works anyway. It's based on hit points not where you hit the character or with what.

It's challenging to empathize with a mask, helmet or massively disfiguring buff. (Barkskin/Tortoiseshell, I'm looking at you).
