okay some of the helms are retarded. I would love a hide helm option so i couldn't see some of the pathetic work some of the devs have put it.

I've seen them. Morrigan would never wear something as retarded as what she is wearing in a couple of those screens. It completely ruins her look.

On the contrary, the heavy axe that would split her head open would "ruin her look" a bit more than the helmet she would definately wear to stop that from happening.

yeah because leather is so protective that way <_<  That isn't how that game works anyway. It's based on hit points not where you hit the character or with what.

Take off your helm when you're not adventuring - i.e. put the item in your hotbar list. Done.

True but still it deals with hit points. Combat isn't done to a realistic level. Look at the videos of the ogre battle or Flemeth in dragon form. The bottom line is it's your game, want to wear a helmet or believe you have to go ahead but don't try to tell others to or put them down because they don't want to.

This is what we call a flyby.

everyone seems to be going on about realism and getting in a tizzy about how kudos to bioware and the like... Realism? its a &^$@^&^ing GAME WITH OGRES AND UNDEAD AND MAGIC! theres nothing real about it. maybe the option should be included, it wouldn't be hard to write. all you "hardcore" *cough* Dorks... who've gotten their panties in a bunch about how wonderful it is that there isn't the option should get real. maybe if they didn't make the mage hood make you look like a bloody condom, people would want their helms showing. i think a lot of the light armour helmets look like crap. i want my mage hoods covered because i dont want to look like a stupid parrot!!!!

It's an option that absolutely should be in the game, on a by-character basis. Coding-wise, it's utterly trivial so there's no excuse there. It's a single-player game, so it's not like you're going to mislead some pvp opponent into thinking that you don't have one when you do. In any case, for characters other than tanks, helmets are mostly just there for the stat boosts, which could equally well be coming from a headband, circlet, or magical jewelry.

As for realism, there's actually a very good reason why 'adventurers' wouldn't wear most of the helms in the game. Full-face helms mess up your sight, ruining peripheral vision, and distort your voice and your hearing. You can't wander about the countryside for hours on end wearing them, and since they often have to be rivetted on and/or secured by a third party, you can't just put it on when the darkspawn happen to show up. That's why if you watch any moderately well-researched historical or fantasy film, helms are mostly reserved for the battlefield- that's what they're for. This, BTW, was built into the AD&D ruleset, which was why rogues never wore them for example.

Had I the option, it'd be helms for tanks, bare heads for the rest. The tanks are the only ones getting a real benefit from the armor anyway. But if you really get personally offended by those invisible hats, just leave the toggle alone. Simplicity.

The hats my Morrigan has worn very briefly were extremely ugly caps, that probably wouldn't have even slowed down a heavy axe :P

I've no problem with the helmets in the game - I actually like most of them. The caps for mages, though ... takes some nasty taste to like those. Especially with Morrigan's clothes. A no helmet hack is great if the headgear is ugly, but you want the stats. Still, rather than Bioware including a "hide helmet" button, I wish they'd create some nice caps (and mage robes).

I don't wear helms. There are only a few truly potent ones in the game, and they're almost universally tanking helms. Off-tanks like my two-hander avatar need not apply, thankfully.
