Um the stuff we can buy right now irl + whatever the galactic advancement of technology is at the time frame?

Where's the colony going to get the means such as production capacity to make mechs in the first place or the financial backing to buy them?

Berkeinstein, Terra Nova, Eden Prime are our most populated colonies, but even then their sheer production capacity would be dwarfed by Earth. Do you really want to know why? Because Earth has been industrialised for the past 300+ years by the time of ME (the 100 years + the 200 year jump in capacity at the discovery of the Prothean ruins).

And if Mechs and automated systems greatly increase the productivity of factories, then what freakin planet held by humanity would have the most?

Seriously, just stop with your quasi logic, because anything you can offer is eclipsed by what Earth would by necessity offer due to the fact that it gave us the industry to even get to the stars in the first place, and thus it's technology would be concurrent with other advances...

And yet, you can still actually mine stuff from planets in the sol system, even those that are apparently 'depleted.' Also note that Saturn still is the largest supplier of He3 for the Alliance.

Also, the Asteriod belt too for sheer resources.

Planet scanning is a gameplay mechanic used to acquire upgrades, and therefore invalid in a lore argument.

Anyway, congrats Fixer on your fantastic trolling. I honestly salute you for it.

NO!

Shepard MUST  be able to completely strip-mine the entire Terminus in the space of a few monthes despite centuries/millenia of development by other species!

People thought that the Normandy's SR-2's stealth systems and drive train was the most advanced aspect of human design ever.

They were wrong.

It's the SR-2's probe mining system, completely able to strip mine entire star systems in only a few weeks!

I only really strip mine just before I go through O4 Dean! That's the time planets should worry and tense up as I probe them nice and hard... wait...

IF ITS IN THE GAME ITS IN THE GAME!

What Saphra said.

Earth really is the centre of the universe when it comes down to Humanity. The Colonies lack the necessary resources to be fully self sufficient. I'm still waiting for Fixers to answer my hypothetical though.

And what Does earth provide to all those Colonies, I'm pretty sure earth is exausted of any natural resources by that time?

Earth is essentially the part of the economy that turns raw resources into useful products.

The colonies extract valuable resources (especially eezo where it can be found).  The colonies provide these resources to Earth.  In return, Earth provides labor, expertise, and heavy industry needed to turn those raw resources into something valuable.  Valuables are then sold to anyone with the coin to buy it.

This is pretty basic economics.  The colonies are, at this stage, mostly resourcing operations.  In a century or so, you'll start to see some real, significant heavy industry grow in the colonies, but that's well outside the time frame of Mass Effect 3.

Colonies = cheap raw materials.  Earth = manufacturing and R&D.  That's basically the Alliance's economy, in a nutshell, at the moment.

You mean, besides gods and services that the Colonists can't have because they live practically bare bones? You mean other than successive colonist influxes? Look at Horizon, do you honestly think they can build everything that they need? Like those trucks for one.

What kind of 'gods' and services has Earth in the names of all the politicians in the world to offer,  Truck,  they could just buyed those at the Citadel summer auction,

Earth is obviously the most populated planet, even if it looses a lot of its infrastructure during the Reaper attack it's still going to have more than what most colony's do. Even the largest human colonies only have about the population of a large city on Earth. You are plain delusional if you think that the Earth does not matter for their continual existence.

Mechs and automated systems, enhance the productivity of factories greatly, you know.

You being 'pretty sure' that Earth has exhausted it's natural resources doesn't mean anything if the Codex doesn't even broach the subject, because then you're arguing well... nothing that can be verified anyway. Look at oil, people have been thinking we've been running low for the better part of the past 40 years. We've also colonized the sol system, which means we have access to the Sol systems resources, which should be plainly obvious even to Zulu that it has vast amounts of materials. Lets not forget that Saturn is the Alliance's largest supplier of He3.

Material in the solar system? like this:

Lore (the codex) overrides gameplay.  Codex says that Uranus is the largest produce of he3 in the Alliance.  That means the Uranus is not depleted, or anywhere close to it.

IOW, the fact that that screen says "depleted" doesn't actually mean dick.

Bored, are you?

Please don't try to put words into post that i've never written, thanks

I'm just coming up with a logical alternative that doesn't force the player to save an 'acid waste slum'

The Codex says:

"The homeworld and capital of humanity is entering a new golden age. The resource wealth of a dozen settled
colonies and a hundred industrial outposts flows back to Earth, fueling great works of industry, commerce, and art. The great cities are greening as arcology skyscrapers and telecommuting allow more efficient use of land."

So....not an acid waste slum, even if you want it to be.
