I agree. BioWare, for some reason, haven't really grasped how loud the minorities are in their fanbase.SomeKindaEnigma wrote...

Did everyone miss my second comment? They all look like Bratz dolls. I don't mind sexy characters. I like Miranda's outfit in all of it's crack-eating glory; I think they add to her character and they make sense for her fighting style. I think Tali's outfit is cute. I have reservations about Samara's neckline, but eh whatever.
All the femsheps look like 17 year olds. They look almost exactly the same, just with different weaves. Miranda looks like a confident adult woman. Samara carries herself as a dangerous, beautiful warrior. These femsheps look like they should be getting ready for the SATs. I don't want ugly, I don't need scars up the yin yang and they don't need shoulders the size of krogans. I do want someone who looks like a soldier past the fresh flush of tweenhood. Make up, hair, not as big a deal for me. Don't give a s--t if she's blonde or a redhead or brunette.
Agree 100% (except on Miranda's outfit - her new DLC one is better imho ;-) ). I'd prefer Shep look like she survived ME1 and 2. That's a personal preference - I never put make up on my Sheps and usually give them what I consider practical hair (my avatar is an exception).
A side note - I bought ME2 in March last year without knowing I could play as a female. I bought it because I was bored and looking for a new game. Nice surprise to find I could play as female. The poll seems to me to be a cheap way for Bioware to get the word out that you can play as a female and perhaps attract some new buyers. I'd like to give them credit for geniunely wanting to make it an inclusive decision and give their fans buy-in, but I'll reserve judgment on that.

But its preferable to the majority jumping up and down. This way the fans choose and with numbers reaching well into the dozens of thousends so far they can quite easily turn around and say you voted for that one. Imho this is a very smart way of doing it as its being chosen by the majority of the fanbase of Mass Effect given the facebook page is the ME one not Bioware (all titles) one. On top of that both the facebook one and even the BSN one match the same results with number 5 so far way, way in the lead.

Well said.
It was cool of Bioware to give us a say on the new default Femshep's appearance - they certainly didn't have to. In any case, the old default femshep is still going to be in the game too and people will as ever be able to make their own Sheps instead if none of the defaults fit the players tastes. The complaining seems a bit silly really.
Loved the blonde femshep myself

It is indeed preferable to the majority going on a tirade, but the way this was handled, we'll be seeing threads for the next month or so with "BUT 1/2/3/4/6 WAS THE BEST FEMSHEP AND I CAN'T TOLERATE THAT BLONDE BIMBO", which will be a true sore to sift through.Dragoonlordz wrote...

If they had just chosen the default Shepard, shinied up her model to look better (as far as I know, Sheploo has better textures than CustomShep), we would have ended up with none of the outrage and all of the praise from the FemShep-movement. Or do people actually want a new default FemShep?

I don't get why people make such a big deal out of this.

Anyway, I doubt I'll use the new default, though I'd like to use Blondie's hair on my canon (only in black).

As for high maintenance, #1's isn't.
This is all now getting very off topic. This is about how finally FShep's being included in some marketing stuff and not subjective stuff like opinions on hair colour.

No there shouldn't have been more marketing of Female Shepard and there still shouldn't. Who wants to be a butch military broad? Just ruins the story. Most great story lines will have a male Protagonist and always will. It's just not the woman's role to be the bad ass savior.
Here, take this flame shield.
Oh yeah.
Run.

#1's hair is probably the most practical, yes, and I'm fine with #2's bun, but that isn't what people are voting about, and all of the femsheps seem to be wearing heavy makeup.
And don't get me wrong, I am very happy that femshep is going to be on the collector's edition box (it's part of what made me feel less pain in my wallet when I ordered the CE) and is getting a trailer. It's a small step, but it is a step and there are some problems I have with it. I can be glad that Bioware's doing something while still having issues with how they're doing it.

2. Bioware promises that there will be a femshep trailer.
3. Bioware makes us choose the look of the new femshep.
4. The fans starts their whining.. as always.
Pathetic.

Also, this. ^ I'm happy tha BioWare did what they did, and I'm ready to give them all the credit and acknowledgement. To me, ME has always been the flagship of gender equality in games - mainly because of FemShep - and that is not changing.roflchoppaz wrote...
I'm fine with blonde girl getting the most votes. I mean, you're right, it was obvious.
But.. was all this even necessary? We already had a fine default femShep. Not overly pretty, but still very nice looking. She obviously looked like she saw some ****. This lady? She looks a bit.. too young to be in the military. To be Savior of the Galaxy, even.
The only thing that the current default femShep needed is just some tweaks. Her own head mesh (with nicer looking hair than current), like Sheploo. Possibly facescan of a similar to femShep default face?
And I honestly wtf'd at the Rihanna Shepard. Did she took a wrong turn or something? Doesn't BW realize that both male default and female default have to look at least a bit similar? *That* drastic of a difference is just too much.
Yet is true that they did too much, and that almost damaged all the good they meant. Jane 1.0 would have been fine. Not because she's 'ugly', because she is not. To me, at least, she's very attractive. It's just that she is not 'doll-pretty', like the Jane 2.0 candidates.
But yeah, baby steps.

You've got to be joking. There would be even more ****ing and moaning if Bioware had just made the call. This was a good way of getting the majority opinion on a purely aesthetic matter and protecting themselves from the flak.SomeKindaEnigma wrote...

I use femshep character in both previous titles but they never used the original femshep preset ever it was just too 'dare I say it' ugly 'turns out I do dare say it'. I just didn't like her preset style at all was horrible imho and yes to me pugfaced. So personaly I am glad they gave us the choice and even more so that the one in the lead by long way is the same as the type I (try) to make in previous games before. In the end the number 5 is like for me the new vastly improved version of what I have always used for my femshep to begin with.

No amount of marketing will change that.
But that is MY Shep.
Everyone has a different view of what Shep should be and that's good.
No picture on a poster or tin or box art or whatever, will change how i view my Shep.
I'm glad she has finally got the recognision she deserves but that will not change my view on the girl i have gone through 2 games with.
probably not relevant but i thought i'd share.

Obviously in your Mass Effect universe RPing the female stays at home makes the sandwiches and washes the dishes?

No matter what, everyone can't be happy, and is going to blame Bioware and call them all sorts of things. At least with this poll they can throw their hands up in the air, and say "Hey, we're just giving you what you explicitly asked for!" and point to the poll. Everyone, ESPECIALLY on the BSN forum, likes to think they're the vast majority opinion. Look on these forums, and you'd think 90% of players exclusively play femshep (and visit these forums) but Bioware's metrics have shown how surprisingly untrue that is, with over 80% of players apparently choosing manshep.
As for the talk about having needing done this from ME1, well... imagine if Bioware had a poll asking if the Shepard on the ME1 box should be male or female. Male would probably have won. If Bioware had just dealt with this kind of stuff with a poll, instead of metrics, they could have been off the hook when it comes to getting blamed for advertising manshep too.
Though its easy to blame companies like EA and Bioware, the reason they do the things they do, and make things the way they do is because of the fans. They advertise "ACTION!" in DA2, because so many complained about DAO being slow and boring. They put DRM on games because so many people keep finding ways past protections to pirate games. They favor male heroes, because unfortunately, many in society, many of you, are more sexist than you think you are, and it shows in your actions, preferences, and habits, though you may not explicitly admit it.
