Okay, you're going to have to explain how a female protagonist in a central role in a game being acknowledged as being in a central role in the game is an insult because I'm really not following that at all

The redesign is an insult. What exactly was wrong with the look of default femShep that it needed "sex(y)ing up"? If anything, this little vote should have happened before ME even shipped. You are being thrown a bone, and you just piddled at the thought of it. Are we communicating yet?

I agree with the "acknowledgement due" part of your argument. I just think you're a little naive.

Agree with the OP completely. My femsheps tend to be darker complected and ethnically ambiguous, but my favorite of the current hairstyles is the longish but tucked behind the ears style. The blonde seems to have hair inspired by that one... so she's my fav (even though I'd prefer darker hair).

I'd like to point out that those images are paintings. The manshep image with the same pose/background doesn't look exactly like Sheploo (and the box art for ME2 didn't replicate him or Miranda very well either). I would advise reserving judgement on what the default femshep will look like in game until we see actual renders of her.

I think the fact that the annoucement was something as -relevent- to -all- shepard fans was a -lie-
It was an annoucement aimed at all fans of -female- shepard.

If you don't use femshep, have never used femshep, don't even use femshep, how this annoucement that many waited for weeks to hear was in any way relevent to them can be seen as deceptive.

If they had just been honest from the start and said "all femshep fans come and wait in line for hours we have great news for you" that...would have been fine.

I don't care if bioware took extra time to make femshep models for fans of femshep to vote on. I'm glad to see it gives femshep fans something to contribute to.

What I do care about is the fact it was -aimed- at -all- fans of shepard, and a lot of them were....like , uh...where is the news for -me-

Again just to clear it up.... would have been fine if the annoucement was aimed at the right audience.

To put it in a context you can understand clearly.

"We want all fans of shepard to turn up, possiblly book an afternoon off work if you work weekends, drive hours to get here, maybe even put yourself up in a hotel at your own expense to listen to this annoucement that affects all shepards of all genders and orientation"

Which is what they implied by saying "all fans of shepard"

Not...

"Hey fans of femshep we have an extra special annoucement for you", which would have allowed people to stay at home knowing that it wouldn't affect them....

I'm delighted there is something extra for the femship fans

I'm annoyed they announced it as something for -all- fans of shepard.

Hell I could care less if female shepard got -even more- attention and actual in game -perks for being female, so long as it's not announced as something relevent to -all- fans of shepard.

They pay the same amount of money as you do. They have the right to take part simple as that. They should not be excluded just because they aren't in your club.

It is also not an insult to person saying is, it's giving people the ability to choose for themselves putting it in the hands of the players gives them involvment in the game much like everytime you want something when you leave feedback and moan when you don't get your way; only this time it's being granted.

This is not a win for femShep fans. This is a win for "sex sells". Let's sex femShep up to capture a bigger market. Sorry, Sorrel, this is not a win, but an insult.

It is a win. What's this all about? Character of a gender only 20% used in ME2. Even if it caters to straight guys as well by letting them pick 'hot blonde', in the end the entire fuss concerns Shepard of a female gender. Consciously or not, everything taps into promotion of FemShep. And is she made to be beautiful? Well, Sheploo was based on a freaking model. Not like they didn't try to sell sex with him too.

Jane 1.0 won't be gone from the game.  This Jane 2.0 seems to be a high res version of femShep, something she should have gotten from the start.  As for the contest, it's just Marketing being Marketing. Femshep fans get a high res version of her, some long overdue recognition from BioWare, and BioWare gets people talking about ME3 and Shepard.  Everyone wins.

And who's complying?  I'm certainly not.

And then we were never allowed to choose a female protagonist again because BioWare didn't want to listen to the all of ****ing that would come with it (and this comes from the douches that think there can only be one, very MANLY MANSHEP and think that BioWare is cowing to the feminist agenda, and everyone else who is freaking out because a concept was shown of a blonde) .  -_-  Ok, I doubt, they'd do that, but still.

Great post, Sorrel.  The bit about taking baby steps is especially true.  People forget how kind of revolutionary the ME franchise is when making your own protagonist.  Before this series, how often did you get the chance to not only play as, but build your female protagonist,  from the ground up, including race and sexual orientation?  I'm not trying to get off topic about the main issue here, but really.

I'm also kind of just :? over the fact that how many people ****ed and moaned over Plain Jane's appearance, and are now complaining over the "oversexualized" new version.  I just...I don't even...

Ignoring the "sexying up" claim altogether here, the problem with default Jane was that she was quite clearly an afterthought thrown together for the sake of having a default option.

Are you talking about her hair? Because hey, I'm a natural blonde. Does that mean I'm naturally sexed up? I'm afraid I don't follow your logic at all

Its still bad they are holding the poll on Facebook where any retard can vote ME fan or no. This is why I feel the Blonde is winning.

Every site i have been to which has a poll about this has the blonde winning by a fairly large margin.

If you have another forum or site i don't know of, in which one of the others is winning, could you please link it for me?

People really need to get over the idea that the blonde option was the 'obvious choice' because she was blonde. That's absolute BS. She was the favourite because she looked a bit better than the others. Period. I'm afraid I don't see why hair colour even has to be a factor because, quite honestly, I would have voted for Shep 5 if she'd have had red, brown or white hair; it was her overall look and hairstyle that appealed to me.

I also believe that people should stop complaining; you were given the opportunity to vote for how your default Shep will look (which isn't something that happens often). Finally she's getting some decent marketing (which I've seen a lot of people complain about in the past) plus there is a pretty good chance that you'll get a number of options in the CC anyway.

So let me get this straight. Femshep fans can't complain about having Sheploo forced down our throats for years without Sheploo fans getting mad and telling femshep fans to shut up, but they can complain about Bioware focusing on femshep and giving her ONE trailer?

Before you open your mouth, know the past, femshep fans have been treated like crap in the past, by Bioware and Sheploo fans. Femshep at last get's the treatment she deserves and what do Sheploo fans do? The same thing they complained that femshep fans where doing.

My point. Thank you. She should have been modelled after a model from the start, like Sheploo was.

Yeah I got the impression people were voting for the blonde more because of the hairstyle then because of the color. In fact the same model looks way better as a red head imo. :P

And dude there is NO sexing up of Femshep, we never had a COMMERCIAL Femshep, this was the voting is for. Lawlz..

No, no, no, no! Hair colour, whatever (although she should have stayed red-ish like her predecessor). I'm talking about that pretty little face, because we all know a woman can't be, what did you call it, "a female protagonist in a central role in a game" if she ain't pretty as a doll. F*ck!

But she wasn't because there were no plans to focus on femShep at all.  Now that they are putting forth a femShep focus they're finally taking her design more seriously.  If they hadn't paid for Vanderloo's likeness then maybe they would have done something similar for default dudeShep.

Yes, she should have been modelled after a model from the start like Sheploo was.
But she wasn't. Now she's getting some more attention and a redesign -- How is that sexying up/an insult I just don't follow. I'm sorry.

Also -- what, pretty people can't be badass? :B Seriously, you make it sound like you'd only be happy if Shepard was an uggo or somethin'! LOL

Like Sheploo wasn't based on a handsome, manly model?  Whoo boy - I can just hear the complaints now if the models for FemShep had been unattractive -- what? Men get a model and we get ?????  C'mon Kyrene, get real.

Yes, pretty sells but just because someone is attractive doesn't make them stoopid or unable to be badass.  And it's human nature to like pretty. I've not seen many custom Sheps who were intentionally unattractive.

Nor does recognizing that one is finally being acknowledged and wanting to encourage that by being positive = naive.

Yes. yes he is.... <3:whistle:

People are getting prettier all the time, the more we spread our genes around the more obvious that becomes. That's touched on in the books. In the ME universe it's hard to tell which combination of race one has and people look all fairly attractive and about 10 years younger then they really are. Part of evolution and technology.

So that both sexes of Shepards can be attractive is just fine.

Why campaign at all then if your reason is that vapid.

Would you have been juat as happy had default old Jane 1.0 been the poster girl for ME3?
