She hasn't been 'Sexed up' at all. She's more feminine. Being a soldier doesn't require her to look like a guy.

Wait, so femshep is going to be on the back of the box, right?

Why campaign at all then if your reason is that vapid.

Would you have been juat as happy had default old Jane 1.0 been the poster girl for ME3?

Yes.  Not that I ever use default but Jane isn't ugly.  She just wasn't used in the advertising.  It would have been much better than nothing.

So is the blonde option definitely the default then? With swishy hair?

So let me get this straight. Femshep fans can't complain about having Sheploo forced down our throats for years without Sheploo fans getting mad and telling femshep fans to shut up, but they can complain about Bioware focusing on femshep and giving her ONE trailer?

Before you open your mouth, know the past, femshep fans have been treated like crap in the past, by Bioware and Sheploo fans. Femshep at last get's the treatment she deserves and what do Sheploo fans do? The same thing they complained that femshep fans where doing.

:?

Show me a quote from Bioware telling you to 'shut up' regarding femshep. Who are you even talking too? Did you even read what I said... They are giving the people who buy their games the freedom to make a choice which will have some impact on box art, trailer and in game preset maybe ~that is no different to them implementing the same peoples feedback by popularity such as bringing back weapon upgrades, they brought it back because thats what people wanted this is no different unless your moaning because your choice was in the minoirty. Grow up.

Again, is Sheploo ugly? IMHO, he's ridiculously handsome.

I can't see that as well as others can, but I really think number 4 looks better than 5, with perhaps a new haircut. Still good looking as number 5, but looks a lot more experienced and capable.

Number 4 really just looks like River Tam, a bit to underage to be taken seriously in a military context, especially considering Shepard isn't a raw recruit.

But dolls...

And Vanderloo / Sheploo also got that "At least I got experience" looks I see in number 4, but oh well - The majority has spoken.

Would you have been just as happy had default old Jane 1.0 been the poster girl for ME3?

Yes. I would have.
It would've been nice if she'd been given a high-res face texture like Sheploo and had been treated as a valid and complete option from the beginning. Yes.

My reasoning isn't 'that' vapid, or vapid at all really. I want Shepard to be seen as an equal and valid choice and now things are happening to make that possible. I want to acknowledge that in a positive way.

--

Also about the 'poll was unnecessary' thing... Yeah, it was, however I think the reasoning behind that was "We've been dicks to you for two games, here, have a bit of an extra say in what's going on." It was an attempt to show we're being listened to.

Well that's my point. Had BW announced that henceforth Sheploo will not be used for marketing, but rather Jane 1.0, it would have been a much bigger victory IMHO. That would have acknowledged a female protagonist without having to pretty her up first before releasing her to the advertising.

Where is the poll?

It is being held on face book :-

You need a facebook account and you have to "like" Mass Effect 2 before you can vote for your preferred femshep.

Personally some of the stuff I have seen in the blonde femshep comment section really is embarrassing the femshep community.  At this point I am beginning to think Bioware should have just made FemShep damn well bald that would have shut people up.

But why would they ditch Sheploo completly? Isn't what we aim for having both Jane and John being advertised equally?

Yeah I got the impression people were voting for the blonde more because of the hairstyle then because of the color. In fact the same model looks way better as a red head imo. :P

True, I don't care if it's black, red or blonde, as long as the hair reaches the neck.

I really disagree with that. I don't think Sheploo should be phased out at all. The male option is every bit as valid. Both ought to be shown.

I think replacing Sheploo with Shepette would be just as sexist as refusing to include her at all.

Really great post Sorrel, thank you for taking the time to put it together. Image IPB

I would have been happy with default Jane in the advertising as well but I’m glad to see her getting the treatment from BW now that she should have received from the beginning of the series.

I get your point.  At the same time I don't see that "prettying her up" is necessarily sexist given how "pretty" Sheploo is in comparison to Jane 1.0.  And I just don't think the prettification is important enough to complain about.  I'd rather focus on the fact that we're finally seeing FemShep in advertising. YAY!

Default Jane had issues to begin with, there's a post somewhere listing how her face isn't aligned properly or have the right proportions. And AGAIN Jane isn't being abandoned she's still a choice in ME3.

You need to set the pitch fork down Kyrene and understand this was a gesture by BW to include a portion of their fan base that's always felt left out. It's THAT simple.

So now you want sheploo fans to be disenfranchised? How is that any different from people who are anti femshep? Both male and female shepard should be marketed imho

I do worry that this is a step allright, but a step backwards.

Ms.Shepard is given a complete, completely unnecessary makeover, which makes her look, not so much like a hardened N7 soldier, as like a waif model showcasing the N7 summer collection, complete with the thick eyeliner-ed "this is my angry expression, Grrrr TM" grimace, that has stared out at you from so many ads.
People who said Bioware would never sink so low as to "Miranda-fying" femShep: I present to you: exhibit A.
I wouldn't be too surprised if they give her the walk to match, even if that means they have to widen all the doors to allow for hyperswaying hips. Disappointed, but not surprised.

It doesn't help that this whole initative comes out of the marketing department. You get the feeling this is actually pandering to the sort of T&A gawkers who typically only play Sheploo anyways.

EDIT: Wow, two whole pages while I wrote that. Got to look how much was said and re-said... :P

Femshep has the potential to be attractive (which was always the case), I think that's what he meant.

As an apology for two massively popular games without her being even once a poster face? That's not really sexist is it? One marketing campaign with Jane 1.0 as the poster girl... it would have been (channeling King Cailan) GLORIOUS!

LOL, welcome to the 21st century.

Equality does not mean -equal- representation. It means that for years white able bodied hetrosexual males have had things too good. So their crime of just being born needs to be punished by erradicating them totally .

No excuses, You were born, you had a choice to be born, that's your crime, you did chose to be white, able bodied, hetro sexual and male....

Equal representation will -never- be enough for some, because you know the crimes of those white able bodied hetro sexual males that came before you and have nothing to do with you need to be addressed....

Equal representation is the comprimise , the goal is revert to 200 years ago and reverse the roles..

Yeah I'm happy with Equal   =/=  I'm not happy when I hear = is not enough.

@stewie

Feminism extremists are every bit as loathsome as patriarchal oppressors.

I don't think for one bleeding second that Sheploo should be replaced by Shepette, all I think -- and all the majority of FShep fans think -- is that she should be presented astride him. In alternate trailers, in alternate posters, alternate standees... Like when a magazine prints special editions that have more than one cover.
